This is where we will come up with the basic layout of camp.
I have posted a JPG of my idea for the layout. Check it out and leave feed back here.

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 10:32 PMSo last years camp was really free form with only a few people needing to be placed in certain spots. I don't want to turn the camp map in to a reservation system because that would just be too complicated. If you have specific placement needs let me know. Ideas like putting Joe's bus next to the group shade for use of the observation deck is the kind of thing I am looking for. If someone with an RV wants to be right by group shade please pipe up so I can put you there(Twin?). I think we could really use wind blocking on three sides of the group shade but i want to keep the man side open so that we can check out the street scene and the party shade. Also if someone is going to take on building an evap pond then we will need to find a good place for it and that area will have to be set aside. Camping next to the street is usually really desirable and in my mind should be a first come first served basis. As the camp fills we will figure out a way to sort of organize the free form camping so that people who are going to leave earlier can easily get out of camp.
Thoughts? Questions? Proposals?

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 10:24 PMMots,
FYI. I plan to bring the dome again and put it up correctly this time so the footprint will be a little bigger. figure 18 feet in diameter. Will need to escape early Sunday after the burn so vehicle placement is key. Will tear down the dome on Saturday afternoon. a corner location would be perfecto and least distuptive being next to the street either back (outside) or front (inside) . One dome and one Honda Ridgeline.
Like last year my shade structure was consumed and "donated" to the camp. If I do bring anything it will most likely be another camo of some TBD dimension.
I'm really looking forward to seeing your plans. Thanks for taking the lead on this. You rock.

I'm sure we will be able to get you in to a spot that meets your needs. Your post is a perfect example of what info will be needed for the land grab and camp organization. Thanks!! -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 10:48 PMMotsky- Put us where you will my love, we will be staying 'til at least Mon. as we want to help with moop clean up and avoid the mass exodus, so we will be there 'til they run us off, ha ha just kidding. Just one itty bitty request. The r.v. has great windows around the back end so if we could get a view of the street, that would be great but if it is not possible, no biggie,
much love family,

Wed, May 14, 2008 - 6:49 PMRebecca,
Is the door on the driver side as it is being pulled? I am assuming they all are. I don't want to put you awning facing the prevailing wind. I'll ponder it a bit and come up with something good. The big windows are just on the back. Right? -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 7:08 PMOh and you will probably want to stay until Tuesday to avoid Exodus grid lock. The grid lock usually lets up at sundown Monday night. I'll be there doing line sweeps of camp and deciding if I want to stay and help DPW or hit the road and recover off playa. -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 5:28 PMRebecca,
Perfect. I was originally thinking of putting you on the southish side of the group shade and with the way your RV is built it will work. I seem to remember way back that you were interested in having a little hang out area in front of your RV so that made me think of placing you by the shade. Let me know if for some reason you don't want to be by the group shade. So everything is going to work out great for your awning not facing the wind. You will have a view of the street but it will be more of a big slice than a wide open vista. I hope that is ok? If everything stays the same you will pull in from F through the M.V. parking area not the camp access road on G. (Its a bit early for specifics but aww what the heck.)
I heart planning!!! -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Wed, May 28, 2008 - 9:37 PMHey, I've had my head in the sand since the burn and am now just coming out and realizing that there is another burn out there to attend! I'm definitely coming again and will be bringing along my 20' diameter dome. I also have a 50' diameter parachute that could be used as a big group shade structure. I don't know if it's needed or how to rig it, any ideas?? -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Thu, May 29, 2008 - 4:19 PMGreg,
By all means bring the parachute and post it up in who's bringing what. It would also help to bring poles and stuff to suspend it. -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 3:36 AMWe had one of those ginormous cargo parachutes back in 05. Everyone in camp grabbed a section and we stretched it out flat in preparation of fitting the poles under it. Right when everyone grabbed the edges to lift the chute over the poles, a huge wind came through. Let me just say that forty some odd people vs a cargo chute is not a pretty sight. Burners were being flung left and right. We basically had to lay on the chute and wait out the storm.
Ahhh...I am so ready for the playa. -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 4:19 PMNothing like Playa disaster stories to make one want to get out there again! Of course I'll bring the chute! -
-
Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 11:38 AMNon-playa story but includes a chute and an @$$ load of wind. Three quarters of the chute were stretched out completely and the chute was tied to either nearby trees (RVs could be stand-ins, “NO MIRRORS”) and poles. The last piece was tethered straight to the ground (L shaped). It served two purposes additional shade from rising sun or setting sun and help divert large gusts of wind from getting directly under the chute. Word for the wise don’t use side mirrors on an RV for a cleat one of the people bitched the whole stay about how much it was going to cost to fix. Didn’t get much sympathy from most of us we just had the look of “well why the hell did you use your mirror” on our faces. -

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout

Re: Camp 2.0 Layout
Fri, July 4, 2008 - 12:01 PMSarahbellum,
Thanks for the good information.
Since you are leaving relatively early it would be a good idea to camp either next to the street or the Stag Camp Access Road. This will allow a clear path by which to pull off your exodus.
