OK. It's sort of like a little Secret Santa thing....I think we should start a list of nominated Tribe mates that we think could use a gifting...and why we've nominated them. (Thanks JeffZ for the idea).
Today I nominate my Tribe mate Brian. He lives in Portland. I actually haven't talked with him a lot, but he wrote me this morning after seeing I had a star by my name. He said he'd gifted a friend of his with a donation, but can't afford to donate in his own name. IN the meantime, he is focusing on clicking on banner ads and links to support Tribe in that way until he can get his own star. Imagine that! Signing someone else up before himself. It's one of the most selfless acts of kindness I've been shown in awhile. So I nominate Brian for a gift donation.

Tue, December 4, 2007 - 10:11 AMHow can you tell from someone's profile if they already have a star or not? -

Re: Unsuspecting non-starred sneetches
Tue, December 4, 2007 - 11:01 AMOooh. Good question. I went to someone's profile that I knew had a star to have a look see....The only place I saw it was in their personal profile where it has the FOAF information ("You are connected to xx through:") and there was a star there.....hmm.

Re: Unsuspecting non-starred sneetches
Wed, December 5, 2007 - 10:41 AMThe evil side of me suggests that somebody adopt BryTee. Just to see him try to unadopt himself.
Quite honestly Darren doesn't need that headache though. -

Re: Unsuspecting non-starred sneetches
Wed, December 5, 2007 - 7:22 PMFolks, don't do it. He's already a member here. Don't slap BryTee in the face by paying for a membership in Tribe for him that he doesn't want.
If any of you do, and I find out about it, I'll boot ya. No joke. Respect the rights and wishes of others. Please.

Re: Unsuspecting non-starred sneetches
Wed, December 5, 2007 - 9:58 PMIt wouldn't be a good use of money.
Why?
I'm on the edge of leaving tribe which I'm sure will make a whole bunch of sneetchy type of happy.
So:
• tribe keeps going down: bummer, but I understand why...
• People rally around (including me - go check my blog - and yours too "pi" to see me contribute all my blog responses into yours) to say we'd support tribe financially.
• they come up with the star idea, it's ok I suppose to have it, so I try to see what's it about to ask a question in one of the moderated star tribes, and the mod of a tribe pulls elitist crap on me, insults, etc. I also get it from another tribe, that I have no star :-(
• FYI Until this morning I was still being sent nastigrams by that moderator, but I'm ok to reply defending myself, but it still pisses me off he's such an elitist jerk in control of his little club, putting down others who perhaps cannot afford membership. I can. I just don't want to have a "star" until this elitist shit enabling can be stopped, avoided, or removed.
• So I go to the tribe-brainstorm tribe asking to do something about it before more people get the nasty end of sneetch elitist attitude kicked in their face
• what do I get? Shit, abuse, insults. So I clarify every nit-pick and defend against insults, and this morning find I'm kicked out (without a warning nor explanation) for what I can only assume is defending myself against nasty attacks, even though I was answering every nit pick from that bunch of sneetches, and EVEN spending a while making a couple of alternative images for the oversize boxy-star that causes a minor layout problem.
Guess what.... The moderator of that tribe, who kicked me out without why, without warning, and didn't kick out the nasty sneetches who I feel viscously attacked me, is none other that Darren. The staff member, the guy who *IF* I were to donate, I would be paying.
I don't want to pay a sneetch.
So I'm part of the effort to bring about change, helping you "pi", yet all I get is "evil" thoughts.
Also why the F*K am I helping people who kick me out, insult me, make jokes about me, when I try to help?
THEN.... today in the Burningman tribe I reply to a message after Rhino's about the star based tribes, about the plain-bellied tribe, and YES it did tweek me a bit that Rhino didn't put the PlainBelliedSneetch tribe in his posting (and Rhino, it sounded like you were all for it, yesterday in our private message exchange), but ok, I understand maybe a mistake, so I cut/paste that tribe URL and turned out I did it wrong, I ended up pasting a URL to "join the tribe" - which I didn't know was even possible, so I get attacked by Dusty Nipples, I realize the error URL, repost the right one, but still she gives me shit, and she cuts me NO slack accusing me of deliberately doing it. NO apology when I apologized for my cut/paste error - Heck I even gave the right link afterwards.
F*K again, F*K.
I'm about ready to go - probably to facebook.
You can all be happy, save your cash for someone who wants to put up with this shit.
Does anyone here care? -

Re: Unsuspecting non-starred sneetches
Thu, December 6, 2007 - 6:27 AMI do. BryTee, please don't leave us. Your philosophy of love and respect is welcome here. And I do want to see you at Interfuse, fellow love junkie.
Don't do it. Stay.
Radical inclusion means respecting the opinions and rights of others. Which I do.

Re: Unsuspecting non-starred sneetches
Thu, December 6, 2007 - 6:33 AMI care.
And it would seem that you've always been welcome here.
I really think it sucks that you've been treated poorly by Tribe members and Tribe higher-ups alike, and should you choose to leave Tribe.net based on that it's a perfectly viable reason. But personally, I like all the variety of opinions of people. They help me to form my own opinions and see other ways of looking at something. To me, the star is just a little symbol of acknowledgment and not some demeaning status symbol or lack thereof. But that's just me. I don't laugh in the face of people without stars. I didn't give $5 to get a star. I gave the money because I wanted to give Tribe.net a chance to survive in an online world of shitty people networking sites <insert your least favorite here>.
