What a great way to spend a Sat. afternoon! That was so much fun making my first model! It was a little complicated at first, it's funny how it plays tricks on your eyes. I want to build it several times so that it comes as second nature. One tip, it helps to have a dab of glue to hold the base to the central star pieces.
I have a question regarding the cover material, would a canvas painter's tarp work well? Plastic tarp? Has anyone actually made a cover like the one from the model?

Re: 1st model completed
Sat, May 27, 2006 - 10:24 PMI have never made that cover, and I might never even try! Looks pretty darned complex.
It works to make a cover from waterproofed tent nylon like so: out of 5 roundish triangle panels... with a zipper between one set of panels and a foot diameter vent hole in the top. Set up your first dome in your back yard and use it to measure the base, a midpoint and then a vent hole in the top. Had one until it recently got lost... so I'm going to have to make a new one very soon!
