I just got home from the Dreamtime festival today. My goodness! What a special gathering!!!!! Such high vibes!
I camped with a group of my friends from Utah at our theme camp "Shambala". The vibe was spectacular. We attracted the most amazing new friends to our camp. It was BEAUTIFUL.
I set up my star dome upon arrival. It only took me 3 hours to set it up! (yes, note the sarcasm) When I set up the star domes regularly, I can get them up in 45 minutes.... and I tend to attract helpers with really positive attitudes that make the experience extra special.
The base pieces were not marked from the last time I set it up so I had to make an impromptu measuring string and figure that one out like a good little MacGuyver. NOTE: it is a really good idea to mark your base pieces while the dome is up so you know which ends go together. It also helps to store them with a tie around the base pieces so you don't have to hunt for them in the pile of pipe when you begin. One of the ends of my base pieces must have been drug across the ground or a cheese grater because it was screwed up! With a little brainstorming, we figured that one out and gave it a half-turn so it would still stay in the coupler when bent into the base circle. When I had just finished weaving the first top star and wanted to secure it's legs; my zip ties left-over from the playa were completely brittle and kept breaking. I finally just manifested some extra zip ties... geez sometimes I gotta get to that part quicker! Once the base was complete and the top star was weaved and zip-tied... the rest of the dome went up in around 20 or 30 minutes!
Sometimes getting to that point is a process in patience. Thank goodness it worked out this time.
I LOVE MY STAR DOMES!!!! I plan to bring all 3 to the playa this year. I discovered a new way to cover them this weekend... Swiss Army Snow Camo tarping!!! It's white and slightly reflective with holes punched in it, it's light weight, it makes no sound in the wind, it's super cheap and it feels great to nap under it- even on the hottest days. I think I'll just buy a bunch of that snow camo tarping and drape my domes with it. Or, suspend over the domes and leave them open in the north. Clean looking storage compartments would have been nice for my clothes, food and supplies. I packed extra light and compact and couldn't bring bulky crates (space issue) out to this festival. To keep it cool inside, my dome was wide open and peoples in my camp walking by could see my clothing, supply/food pile and bedding the whole time. Thank goodness those peeps love me anyway. Felt like I camped on a stage because of how beautiful the star dome was!
Awww shucks, it's past bedtime. No wonder I'm feeling a little strange between the eyes.
I'm curious Durian! Tell me about your star dome adventures from this last week! I hope your adventures were fabulous. Anyone else?
Love, Meggio
