Re: Make the connection
Thu, March 29, 2007 - 2:30 PMI read about a study once that said people who abuse animals are more likely to abuse humans, and the meat industry is no exception.

Re: Make the connection
Mon, April 23, 2007 - 3:14 PMUm.... actually, the studies in question involve those who *torture* animals because it's *fun* for them. It has nothing to do with "the meat industry". Sheesh. -

Re: Make the connection
Thu, April 26, 2007 - 2:14 PMbut that's the point isn't it; such a place gives those who would commit such actions, a sanctuary nin which they can make such habits more firm in there minds. -

Re: Make the connection
Wed, June 27, 2007 - 9:51 PMSounds kinda like a scenario that you have in your own head .... I don't know of any real world examples of any such thing. Besides, the claim is that people who tend toward torturing animals would tend to do Bad Things to people too... it hardly seems relevant that a couple of them might get a job at a meat-packing plant. -

Connection doubtful
Thu, July 5, 2007 - 11:09 AMI think people who torture have moral defects not easily describable as being carnivores or omnivores. Many people are carnivorous and never torture another person in their lifetimes.
IMHO, you are dishonoring the victims of torture for your *agenda*. -

Re: Connection doubtful
Thu, July 5, 2007 - 3:55 PMNo, it is terrible, I'm not arguing with that.
I hear stories all the time. In fact my partner works with refugee for an organization that works directly with torture and trauma survivors. Likewise her mother was pivotal in changing human rights laws within the UN. I myself am working toward working with such refugees as well, including work on project's that doesn't take a reductionist approach to the work and professional skills, that refugees lose the status of in their host countries.
So no, my agenda simply doesn't begin and end with people alone!
With much kindness,
Tashi
