I was cruising on the web last night and found this.
My response is below.

Strippers-have-rights

Published by Leor Farkas on Jan 19, 2003

Category: Civil Rights

Region: United States of America

Target: Gary Ackerman, NY state congressman

Description/History:

Strippers have very difficult, hard lives. They feel degraded by their work. But they have no choice, and little or no education. Their only choice is to do this. But do the managers and stip clubs take care of them? Not at all. Do they have a contract? Few do. They receive unwanted sexual attention and are forced to put up with sick-minded men touching them, although they must keep at a distance. They need rights. They need people to help them find better jobs. They are not animals, they are people too. People who had mostly terrible, abusive families that did not care about them. They get little money, and often have children at home that need to eat. They have little rights recognized or enforced by the law. Please help these achieve the American dream, go to college. Because this is not what they really want.

This is the website I found the post:

I have just visited GoPetition and found the following page very interesting:

www.gopetition.com/petition...ghts.html

I chose to respond to Ms. Leor Farkas, the author of this petition.

My Response:

This is not an incredibly powerful description of the life of a stripper.

I am concerned that this 'petition' has perhaps wasted N.Y. state congressman, Gary Ackerman's time.

I am not clear on a few items mentioned in your petition.

"Unwanted sexual attention " Unwanted?? Strippers have chosen freely to be stripping. Please, do let me know if there is a Stripper Enslavement Camp that I do not know about. Also, I believe 'sexual attention' is what the job entails.

"Forced to put up with sick-minded men touching them," Forced? Sick-minded?
Strippers have chosen freely to be in the adult industry as a stripper. Again, please let me know if there is a Stripper Enslavement Camp that I do not know about.

Could you please clearly define what you mean by 'sick-minded'?

I know there are a lot of religious guilt messages that sex is bad or part of a 'sick' behavior. Some people believe that if you think about sex you are deemed "sick minded". I request clarification upon this term.

"People who had mostly terrible, abusive families that did not care about them." Currently there are over 250,000 women who strip in the U.S. What kind of research have you done to come up with these findings?

"Please help these achieve the American dream, go to college. Because this is not what they really want." An American English writing class may be able to help you with sentence structure. I would like your plea for "Strippers Rights" to be honored and received correctly. If the material is presented intelligently, perhaps you can achieve the American dream of being heard by our political leaders and fellow citizens of the web.

I support your concerns for strippers' rights.

I support stripping as a powerful choice.

I am stripper who is proud, loved and educated.

"They need people to help them find better jobs. They are not animals, they are people too."
Thats my favorite part. The use of the word 'need'. If someone is happy in their current job do they really NEED a "better" job?

I didn't know people thought strippers were animals. In that case I would like to come out and say I'm a tiger but a human woman when I go to work.

I do agree that the managers need to actually have management skills for the strip club environment.

    Well written response. That rocks.
