Unfortunately one of our cameramen was late getting started on Luminous Startbursts which sux.
It's a littls strange having the transitions start 1/2 through.
Plus they hadn't fully mixed the instruments on the soundboard as it was the first song.

Raq'd Club Vegas on Saturday!!! That is for sure. We had a great crowd response and even freaked them out a bit, what with the writhing and all. I am very proud of those who danced this past weekend. We pulled together a tough, new routine, and polished 3 old ones in a month's time. That is fabulous!!
Thank you for your time, and professionalism.
And a special Thanks to Susy for sewing cloaks, and Reala for making our make-up scarey-good.
Lastly, I would like to thank the academy, for letting me borrow their bandana..... ey! ey! ey!!

I just posted a topic announcing the Ghoul Go Girls event coming up December 9th.
But..... did you also know that December 8th at 2pm The Dots and the Beginning/Intermediate Adult BD Group will be peforming for the VERY FIRST TIME EVER~~~ at the Meeting of the Tribes?!?!?!
Yep. It's true. I have been busy getting these beauties ready and now they are coming out of the woodwork. The Dots did have a performance earlier this year at the U of U Kids Health and Safety Fair, but their numbers have grown. They are a troupe of 5 now, and they are awesome. This is the first ever public performance for the Adult Intermediate/beginning class. *I still need to come up with a kewl name for them, they are indescribably beautiful* I hope that you will be able to attend and bask in their beauty.

Halloween show info

I emailed Thia and this is the info she sent me regarding the Halloween show.

The Halloween Show & Bash this year will be held at the Organ Loft 3331 South Edison Street (145 East) Salt Lake City, UT. The tickets are $20 for adults and $6 for children 6 and under. It will include a delicious BOO-ffet, unlimited soft drinks, unlimited set-ups, (you will be allowed to bring your own wine, beer or spirits if you desire) plus the SPOO-tacular show, several costume contest and dancing to the golden oldies afterwards.
Let me know if you are still interested as I know this year it will be definitely sold out early.

This just in...
We have a class time for Special Projects. Tuesday 6:30p-7:30p. in the back/big studio. We will be preparing for October 13th's Dark Art Festival Fundraiser show- Hizbollah/Holi Hi Bi, Tuff Biotchez, FSoL (1st routine from DAF this year), and a new routine. If you are interested contact me. I am trying to keep our numbers low, because of the venue. Club Vegas has a nice stage, but it is small.

Then, for DecaDance, we will start working on our Jungle Lover Routine, I have music, but not spliced. Tonight will be very informal. But I need everyone who has been in DecaDance for the Festival who is interested in staying with DecaDance to show up to class, or at least make a personalized message to me that you are staying. I am turning dancers away, and feel guilty when our class is so empty. I realize that after the festival we take small breaks, and I am not offended by any means, I am just worried that I am turning away talent that would suit us well.

Classes tonight!

Hey, Moron here. Our class is cancelled today, I forgot that the studio is having a Dance Camp. Please pass the word to those you have contact phone numbers for....
Also, if you are interested, I am doing a yoga session tonight at 8:00-9:00p for the "Boot Camp" girls (older students). This camp is Mon-Wed, it is 15 bucks for the entire session and you will learn all types of dance that is offered at the studio, ie Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap, etc

I just finished a book about (kind of) belly dance. Anyhow there was a belly horoscope in the book and I thought you all may be interested to see it.

Listed below are your signs and a very general description of each one’s approach to belly dance, as well as other dance styles:

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19): Natural choreographer; very visual; masters new dance styles, and seeks out and creates new ones; attracted to music and rhythm.

LaRa Zorn first become entranced by the art of Belly Dance while watching, some of the original members of, Urban Tribal Dance Company at the Southern California Renaissance Faire. Only eleven years old and very naïve, LaRa believed that the exotic movements must
have been limited to mothers and daughters of particular cultures. However, years later, at the age of eighteen, she found Cabaret Style classes at the Riverside Community College. Soon she moved on to such well know instructors as Catharae, Amara, & Shahira.
In 2003, she sought out Tribal style classes and, shortly thereafter, found Rachel Lazarus Soto of Devadasi-World Fusion Dance
(a Tribal Fusion dance troupe). After a few months of studying exclusively with Rachel, she was invited to become a core member of Devadasi. During that time she had the privilege of performing at a variety of venues and training with
many different instructors. Outside projects and instruction later lead her to realize her dream of becoming a member of
Atash Maya Dance Company, based in San Diego, with whom she now studies and performs.
In addition to that, LaRa now teaches Tribal Fusion Basics through the Norco City Parks & Recreation Center & can be seen
performing on “Evolution,” a Tribal Fusion performance DVD, with Devadasi. LaRa is also a Holistic Health Practitioner & Massage
Therapy

DANCE FOR DARFUR

Hello Friends,
Its been a long time since I posted, I really am still here! I
wanted to be sure I had something wonderful to say before I posted
and....WAHOO. ...something wonderful is right around the corner! I
must first start by saying that for several months now I have been
deeply disturbed by the genocide that is occuring in Darfur. I
realize that horrible things happen in the world everyday, but the
plight of the people in Darfur is especially horrific. It seems
that much of the world has turned a blind eye to the misery and
suffering that is so much a part of daily life there. Then on
Wednesday, I heard an interview with a refugee that told of not only
the horrific murder of her husband right in front of her but the
rape that she suffered next to her dead husbands body. I realize
that this is very graffic and disturbing, but we must know the
truth. There are millions of stories like this one, and sadly,
stories that are much worse. I vomited after hearing this story and
sobbed for most of the day, and that is when I knew I could no
longer stand by and do nothing. So that is when the "something
wonderful" came to me. Dancing for Darfur is our something
wonderful! I have a Theater, a Date, and now all I need is YOU!!!!
Rising Phoenix dance company in co-operation with Kashmir dance
company is presenting an all for charity show on November 17, 2007!
We will be raffling off gift baskets, have Henna tattooing, selling
local arts and crafts, all the proceeds will go directly to Save
Darfur/Amnesty International to get women and children out of
refugee camps and into countries offering amnesty/refugee statis to
give those who so desperatly need a fresh start and a chance to
heal. No dancer needs to pay to perform or have flyers offering
their classes. This is wonderful oppurtunity for the groups in Utah
to show their talent for such a good cause. This is show will
promote peace and unity on a local level and hopefully raise
awareness to a global level. We can be such a force for good and
this is a perfect way to start! I am formally asking Thia, Raffa,
Zaharia, Jamilla, Dragomi, Amina, Indie Kumari, Blue Lotus, and any
other groups or soloists who would like to perform to please contact
me right away. Please do not be offended if I did not mention your
group by name. If you want to be a part of this you are welcome.
The show is in November, so thats plenty of time for you to recover
from your Halloween shows. The vision is to have a small
market/boutique to shop at and browse before the show, raffle
drawing at the close of show, teachers handing out flyers for thier
own classes and an atmosphere of peace and positive action. When I
approached Corrie Walker about this on Weds. night she and I sat on
the couch and cried for the people of Darfur, and she said, "we can
not live in a bubble, we have to do something" and from that moment
Kashmir was on board. We also need sound and lights so if any of
you,(Charles, Raj, Bryan) could help us out that would be awsome.
This is a strictly for charity event, so we will not be able to
offer you payment. You will however be making a difference. The
theater seats 250, and tickets will be $10 at the door. More
details to come.....But it is going to be spectacular! Again, I
must stress that this is a for charity event, no one takes any money
from this show, Not One Cent goes to me or anyone else involved in
this show, all proceeds go to charity! Lets make a difference.

on the advertisements that are designed and ready to go.The theater

We really are so very lucky to be in such a wonderfully connected troupe that is so very respectful to one another. All of you girls have such caring hearts and I truly feel blessed to be in the presence of such beauty. I am so very happy that we did this trip, I learned so much about myself and about you girls in the four days I was there.

So I have this friend I work with, Heidi. She came to Dark Arts for a little while, if any of you girls were paying attention. She missed our ballet, so I sent her the link Annwvyn just posted. Heidi freaked out. She was so very impressed, used words like "amazing", "beautiful", "dark and graceful". So I sent her the vid of Delight! performing Medusa at last year's festival. She freaked out even more and said "I WANNA DO THAT!!" So I told her to come join us after Reno. Wanted to make sure that was cool with everyone.

Hi. Reminder that we do have class on Monday. C has requested we run through the Ballet routine too.
Tuesday is photo shoot at the studio at approx 8:00. We will be taking photos of BD class first then the ballet around 9ish. I will have more details in class on Monday.
Wednesday is the rehearsal at the studio. I will not be there, C and I are going to VNV Nation. But I will have copies of music for Sandy to play. Thursday is the Starlite Dance Academy Recital.
Then we will work our butts off for Reno. BD class for Reno is Monday (7p) and Wednesday (7:30P).

Hey,
Okay, so I finally got it working! Yay! We are on the web, ladies! As is Lyra, Tamara, and Brooke! Again, I apologize if I did not get your solo or duet, we ran out of tapes sooner than we thought we would! Depending on when it is you are reading this, the videos may or may not have fully uploaded yet, but as I type, Lyra's tape is playing, so I know that they will be up, given the right amount of loading time! I've got some tapes I need to get back from some people, so when I get those, I will upload even more! Also, as a small note, I realize they are all broken up and cut up, and again, I apologize, but they were too large stuck together to be fitted onto the web, so I did my best to break them off at appropriate times! Thanks for your patience, I know they're later than originally planned upon, but let us be happy that they are finally here!

Videos!

Hey,
I finally managed to load the videos of our performances in Cedar City and The Festival up onto YouTube! I've also got some people's solos as well! (sorry if I missed yours! We ran out of tapes at one point and had to go buy more!) So far, I've got Tamara's, Lyra's, and Kirisha's up, so enjoy!

My suggestion for our cool-down in class....

One thing I miss about Yasamina's class is the crunches we would do at the end of class. I know that it is dreadful for some, and it does hurt, but it just means it is working. I know I can take it upon myself to do them on my own time, but I am more motivated when there are others around.

This is just my suggestion. What do you girls think?

The Breaking News~

Hot off the press. Finally, after much waiting, and holiday lethargy, it is time to rekindle the flame. I found a new home to teach BD lessons. In November 2005, I joined a Jazz dance group to perform for the Zango Juice Convention. There I met some lovely women. One in particular has a phenomenal studio, where she teaches Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Tumbling, called Starlite Dance Academy. I have been chatting with her a good part of this month. Now, it is official!!! Beginning in February, I will be teaching performing level and beginnning level BD classes. For more information, email me.

Can I just say that it is so nice to be back dancing! My abs are sore, my back is sore, and my arms are sore. Unfortunately I had let my body get a wee bit out of shape in that 3 month break. Anyways.... it is good to be back!!!

A costume?

Hi,
I've got a gold costume that I was wondering if anyone wanted? It doesn't fit me, so you can have it, completely free of charge! It's only the bra and belt part, unfortunately, but I know sometimes that's all you need. It's not quite pro grade, but it's very good quality, and good for intermediate dancers, or performers who aren't quite fully pro! If you've got any questions about it, my email is Jeseenya@aol.com. I'll bring it into class on Monday night, to see if anyone wants it there.

I officially stopped teaching belly dance lessons last night at 8:30pm. A fun and exciting chapter of my life has come to a close. This DOES NOT mean that I will quit dancing. There is no way that anyone or anything can stop me from dancing. In fact, I am doing a mini routine right now as I sit in my chair at work typing this. *reaches for more coffee on 5,6,7,8*
I want to take this time to Thank my dedicated students. Although 2 years really isn't a super long period of time, I had a good solid group of dancers who could quickly learn a piece of choreography and perform it proficiently in two weeks time. When we were in class, there was order and respect, aside from my own chaos. And the comraderie, oooooh, we all became such good friends, with no drama and no cliques. I would also like to thank Yasamina for having faith in me to be able to choreograph and teach belly dance class. It was a wonderful experience, and Yasamina has some wonderful venues that we as Kismeteers were able to perform at. I will miss working with her, and benefitting from her stellar publilicity skills. She has become a very dear friend to me.
For the month of October, I will be performing at Macabre Cabaret *more information pending on this show, cause it will be fabulous, it in is on 10/29*. I will be doing swing, cabaret (not BD), and tap routines accompanied by the very talented local band Domiana. http://www.myspace.com/domiana
I am also in the planning process to perform at a fund raiser Halloween show on 10/21.
On October 30, my husband and I will be celebrating our 2 year anniversary with, hopefully, a new master bathroom completed. Ahhh, jetted tub for 2.
After that, well, it is the holiday season, and there will be plenty of parties to attend and host. I am in the process of planning a white elephant party for the friends, and all my belly dance students are invited. *more info pending, for sure*
Then, sometime in January after all this time has passed, I will be dying!!!! I will find a place to set up camp and teach again.

Domiana Presents: Cabaret Macabre

Legend has it that Berlin in the roaring 20’s really roared. They say it was a time of unparalleled decadence of the kind not seen since the fall of Rome. Living beneath the shadow of the horrors of the first world war, the nightcrawlers of Berlin created a new form of beauty, beauty in nihilism and darkness inspired by Dada, American Jazz and low art. They created a world where fantasy and reality became indistinguishable, and the fantasies played out in a grotesque burlesque in the legendary cabarets of Berlin.

On Sunday October 29, the deviant dandies of Domiana, Salt Lake’s avant garde of gothic rock, present the Cabaret Macabre, a performance ritual to raise the spirits of old Berlin. To raise the ghosts of Isherwood, Berber, Dietrich, and Brecht, to bring a new decadence to Salt Lake City, to bring the voluptuous panic of the roaring 20’s to the boring 21.

Cabaret Macabre is far from a standard three band show. Inspired not only by 20’s German Cabaret, but but also by the French Grand Guignol and the Babylon that was old Hollywood, Cabaret Macabre will be presented in three acts, in the revue style of an evil vaudeville. During two intermissions, a ghostly gypsy violinist will provide atmosphere in the lobby. Domiana’s “set” will be woven through all three acts, around performances by the outrageous psychobilly artists Hellbound Saints and ethereal folk artists QstandsforQ. The evening’s wicked Master of Ceremonies will be Ashe Aragon of the band Redemption. The notorious Gothic Rap Project and members of the sinfully seductive Subrosa will make cameo appearances.

Performance artists will abound, including the master of dark illusion, Silentium (of the Theater of Shadows), and storytellers who will present chilling spoken word. Domiana songs will be accompanied by tap dancers, burlesque dancers, military-style dancers, a fan dancer, and swing dancers. (Featured dancers include Annwyn and Lilia, both formerly of Kismet Dance.)

“The idea of Cabaret Macabre was to take a standard rock and roll show and put it in the context of Weimar-style cabaret,” says Dredd of Domiana, “not so much to revive or recreate it, but to channel its spirit and translate it for the 21st century.”

“That was a more spirited age,” he says. “The 21st century so far, seems to have no real spirit of its own. The only spirit of this age seems to be consumerism and mediocrity. Cabaret Macabre is a call to arms for artistic decadence in an age that desperately needs it.”

Cabaret Macabre will take place at The Circuit, in Midvale. Its cabaret-style tables make it uniquely set up for such an event. As an all ages venue, it serves a wide variety of food and beverages, but no alcohol. However, with so much activity packed into four hours, there will be spirit enough.

Upcoming Events

I am excited to announce a couple of events that I will be dancing this month.
The first will be this weekend. I will be making an appearance at the 8th annual CarnEvil party this Saturday the 21st. This is a private party, invite only, I understand, but have been allowed to invite a few friends if anyone is interested. There will be a live DJ and an open bar!! hehehe. *side note: drunk Annwvyn dancing is a spinning around disaster of sequins and limbs* BEWARE!
Then..... October 29th. Cabaret Macabre!!! I am so so excited for this show. Domiana and guests will take the audience on an entertaining journey. I like that I get to tap dance! I literally have not put on my tap shoes since I was 19yo. I started practicing last Sunday, so hopefully I will do myself justice. Plus, I will be joined by "The Sally Bowles," a special burlesque project troupe including myself, Amira, Dashasia, and Keket: With chairs and black rose bouquets!! and an overall feeling of proud elation. I have to say, seeing these recent photos of the troupe Delight! really excites me. What perfection! Ra clearly has an eye in capturing the emotional moment. All of my students are gems. Look at the photos and see. I can feel the excitement of the dance even in a still photograph.
Maybe it is because I know what we were doing and I'm just biased. but I like to think not.

Hi. This tribe is long overdue. If you have taken a class from me, you might understand that having some place to post important topics like costume colors or what time we are meeting for such and such show is a REALLY great idea. I can get carried away in the class setting and sometimes forget to address these items clearly during that tiem frame.
This tribe's #1 is communication.
#2 have fun and post coolio pictures of ourselves and be ubber vain.
#3 positive interaction.
