Hello

I recently came to Sugarshack this past Saturday night and really enjoyed myself. I briefly got to see the accomodations and get an idea of what kind of environment that you guys run. Heck, I even got to meet one of the residents (but I dont recall his name for he left so quickly).

Anyhow, i noticed that the website linked to on tribe shows a parked page rather than a website. Is there another website elsewhere?

Tonight: any shackians that have friends in NYC, check it out!!! 3rd ward is having a members only salon!!! One of my mixed media sculptures called " THE MESSENGER." along with a short story i graffitti called "Monsters" were chosen to be a part of this group show in one of my favorite spaces to make art and meet other artists in NYC!!!!:

Join us for a weekend of fun paintslinging, cleaning and insulation installation at Sugar Shack.

A few times a year we tackle major home projects together with our community members and all of you are encouraged to join us.
Want to use space this year, have an extra need for artspace or stage space? Join us for another CCUD day and help us take on the fun basics.

Wear your messy clothes and join us for food, fun and tools.

A Political Party That'll Make You DANCE on Friday - 11/10!

Ninja Skillz really wanted to throw a post-election party in an effort to try to get out the vote today (offering a free drink w/ ballot stubs). Democracy should be fun! We're doing a whole politically themed event with DJs as political candidates and patriotic campaign decor. It's going to be all tag-team DJ sets (debates) and we have grabbed some of our DJ friends that aren't usually heard in our circles (to give a voice to the underrepresented!)

Anyway, vote for Mark Zabala, watch my 3-way debate, and take dirty politican photos with me =D

Oh yeah, and if you come, we'll sign you up for the Spundae guestlist because our ninjas Saynt and Sammy Bliss are playing there the following day. Come early and carpool because Hollywood on friday nights can be difficult.

Tech-house, breaks, dirty progressive, tag-teams, booms, blips, and djs in suits baby.

This is Sean, aka Gnomad. A lot of you probably already know me. If you're not sure, you can check out my Tribe page. And while you're at it, add me as a friend! Always good to have 'em.

Anyway, as my contribution to the Burning Man art community, last year I started a small endeavor called the "Burning Man Random Photographer Project". Last year was basically a test run, just to see what would happen. It turned out to actually work (and to be a whole lotta fun), so this year we've tripled in size! DADA Friday Night!

This FRIDAY August 18th there's a DADA show hosted by Molly Zenobia (www.mollyzenobia.com) with live painting, participatory art and music, treats and good friends. 7PM opening, 8-11 show. Park north on Pico please and be nice to our neighbors when you come by!!!

Want a nice room at the Sugar Shack?

The room next to mine is now free. It's one of my favorite rooms at Sugar Shack -- 14' ceilings with a great sturdy loft, awesome painted walls and easy in/out access to garden and street.

Single rooms at Sugar are really reasonable, probably less than you're paying to share that boxy two bedroom in westfumbuck. We include utilities and some food in those monthly community $, and we live as an intentional community where your initiative has a real voice and opportunity to reach out to a large community in the heart of Los Angeles.

This is not an opportunity for the fainthearted. We look for talented artists and activists from many different fields to help us fill out our home. Our stage, dance and visual arts spaces are available to you 24/7; Sugar Shack is a tremendous launching pad for the right artist who needs a place to work and focus in on creative potential. We ask that you be responsible, willing to live by consensus, true to your word and actively participating in making our community a better place to be.

drop a line if you are interested. our next sunday house meeting begins at 7PM and tours of the house will happen before the meeting if you're interested in checking out space to share.

Over the next few months you will hear us talking more about organizational structures as we move from a private residence to a more publically-owned collective. This is an interesting process and we invite you to get involved; anyone with legal and financial planning or IC-building skills is especially welcome to join us for an upcoming meeting.

Sugar's Community Partners meetings happen on the third Sunday of the month at 7PM.

The warehouse has been undergoing a transformation over the last year into a functional artspace. The warehousers, those who use the space regularly, are invited to meet up next Tuesday May 30th at 7PM to figure out the building locks, a water plan and long term space use needs.

We're opening the doors to the freaks and geeks again for the Friday Fuzzy party on 2.10.06.
Justina's turning....uh.....26.....and we're having a party. Yeah, that's the story.
After the karaoke, pinata and "undisclosed performance" end at 10PM the DJs hit the stage for hours of fuzzy good fun.

Those of you who have lived @ Sugar in the past few years....

Pick up your mail! We're flooded with your unwanted envelopes.

There are W2s, checks, legal documents and other papers waiting in the foyer for you. Anything that is not picked up by Friday will go back to the post office as MOVED/UNDELIVERABLE.

If you want to make arrangements to pick up stuff send me a message; you're always welcome to stop by and ring the bell too.
If you leave a forwarding address we'll be sure to pass it along with your letters.

Community Room Day

Help us make our Community Room a better place for events!

Special Projects:
o Replace library lighting with new trio lights
o Clean and organize bar for better use
o Remove speaker boxes on stage and suspend speakers
o Replace all bulbs in dead lamps
o Install ceiling fan
o Install lighting and new electrics
o Install pipe for stage lighting and suspension
o Hydraulic tune-up
o Improve front windows

Volunteers with experience in electrical work, construction, lighting or other helping hands are welcome to join in. Food will be provided. Send a message if you can join us!

House as they create a 60's theatre worthy of the tantric twelve!

My housemates and I welcomed 25 people into our home in July to
transform our smelly community room into a place where everyone can come
together.  They succeeded with the SIXTIES HOUSE, a very vibrant
throwback to everything hippie.

If you want to see what works in arts communities this is a great chance
to experience life behind-the-scenes at Sugar.  Watch six of us cook
meals for the Monster Crew while they rip apart a SCHOOL BUS for our new
bar!  See what makes our space one of the most unique artist communities
around.....
