<div>This is how my trip ended: Mardi gave me a ride back to Los Banos, and we had a nice talk about our favorite doughnuts and chickens and traveling and random stuff. I crashed in a hotel and on Monday morning, I got the bad news: my car blew the head gasket. It was estimated at about $1,400 to fix. Now, in PERFECT condition, my car is worth around $1,200. In NORMAL condition (which mine was), it's worth around $600. Sooooooo... yeah. <br/> <br/>I wound up selling the car to a guy at the shop for $300. I wanted to see them shoot water from the radiator into the air, which it was doing when they were working on it, but they didn't want to do more damage to the engine. The guy who bought it is going to drop a new engine into it and use it as a commuter car. After the tow and diagnostic, I wound up about $80 ahead. Now I'm riding my bike around Sac, and honestly, it's pretty great. I needed to ride my bike more, anyway. Once everything sinks in and settles down, I'll contemplate my petite budget and how to work another car into it, before the rainy season begins. <br/> <br/>Conclusions? <br/>Mardi is really sweet. <br/>Do not play on or around the windmill. <br/>Bikes are good. <br/>Blown head gaskets are bad. <br/>My luck boggles my mind (in a good way... I was so very impressed and awed by all of the wonderful people I got to meet, and by the care and lovely spirit that everyone had! What a great way to spend a weekend! Thanks to Teresa and Don for being so happy and fun even during what had to be a stressful time (good stress, but still :)! Thanks to the ever-astounding Miss Love for being....well, astounding! <div>I wanted to give you all some details about the party but I also wanted to let all of you know that Avila Beach is a great little town with lots to do! So maybe you want to come early and cruise the town before the party on the beach. And you can bring your kids! There is a Kids Park along the boardwalk with swings and those things that kids play on that I don't know what they are called. <br/>There are 2 piers- Avila Pier and Harford Pier at Port San Luis. You can watch all the surfers! There is also the lighthouse, and tide pools. <br/>Then down the road there is Avila Barn- All I can say is if you love fruits and veggies, this is THE place to shop! And it is lots of fun just to go there and buy a fresh, hot corn on the cob. YUM! You can actually stop there on your way in to Avila. <br/>There is also the Bob Jones Bike trail. You can walk it too- it's just 3.5 miles of a winding paved trail along the route to Avila Creek with gently rolling hills, lush scenery of live oaks and sycamores, pastures, all ending at the pier. <br/> There are plenty of places to eat in town as well. Fat Cat's Pizza, Mr. Ricks if you want a drink. <br/>So if you plan on coming, I suggest you get there early, stake your claim on the beach, (my husband plans on getting there at 6am!) and just soak in all the clean air, sunshine and beautiful boats hanging out in the harbor! <br/>The water is calm and the weather is usually nice and warm but not hot there. <br/>We will be starting the party officially at 6pm so if you gotta work and can't get there early, just know the road to Avila is winding and dark- be careful! <br/>We will have DJ Amar spinning some tunes and there will be dancing but not anything scheduled- this will be super casual! So if you want to bring your poi to spin or if you just want to dance, we will have the music and a rug....you can cut it!! There will also be bon fires, so bring your marshmellows or hotdogs or whatever.
