I am new I really like this site, especially since normally I am considered weird because I have food and water stokpiled in a closet in my apartment. I keep an emergency kit in my car and a bug out box in the trunk. It's nice to be among friends.

Mon, March 31, 2008 - 8:08 AMThanks, I took a look at your profile, nice bikes, Do you do any HAM radio on the side, I am beginning to get interested in it, and it seems really expensive and bond by gov't rules. YUCK!!!! I have also have always been interested in pirate radio, if anyone knows anything about that. Since you like Black Metal, you should check out Deaf American Records;

Tue, April 1, 2008 - 11:10 AMYep, callsign ON3KD, was gonna get a higher license, but stuff got in the way.
And I kinda worked stations in contests years before I had a license. And the whole HAM-thing CAN be expensive, but it hasn't have to be. Look up where there is a HAM fair, and you'll be surprised how easy it is to get some gear for peanuts. It's what I do to get a decent setup, and yeah it does take a while, but it's still a hobby.
Of coarse, rules and regs, that's something I can't help you with since I do live a world away...

Sun, March 30, 2008 - 4:40 AMBug out box in the trunk, what a great idea! The majority of whats in my truck is pretty much an ad-hoc bugout box.
Looks like our time is coming-- even if the world doesnt completely fall apart, things are at the very least going to get rough.
I have this sense that survival-minded people are soon-to-be popular with the types of people that usually offer little more than unwarranted derrision for our non-conformist ways. Just be sure when the time comes that you give them all the dirty jobs nobody wants! -

Well I used to ride my bike wearing an alpine-style rucksack on my back. It contained food & drink for anything up to 6-12 Hrs, rain gear - sometimes in the form of a poncho, first aid kit, a basic homemade survival kit in a old sweet tin, rope, various types of bindings, and some more rope, one or two ways to make fire, snaplights, ... it was pretty much a fluid thing but I always had it with me. Even when I was working, used it to put my lunch box in it, the thing was always around me and I used the contents a lot - usually as a last resort, just in case that if something were to happen, I would still have enough to make do.
I wore that thing on my back for about 8-10 years.
Now I've got side cases and am starting to adjust them to my liking; Although they will not always be around me.
