What a cool tribe theme!
Looks like so far we're a very geographically dispersed group. I'm in Southern California myself. Let's see ... male, 42, in a poly/open relationship with a fellow "End Times" doomsayer.
I'm a bit tongue-in-cheek about survivalism, but enjoy being prepared for anything, and just as much, the process of preparing. My approach is to transform everything--house, truck, pants pockets, etc.--into a tribute to Batman's "Utility Belt": always the perfect and specific tool at the ready, for any conceivable eventuality. At least that's the goal. In practice, it mostly translates into loaded-to-the-gills overpacking.
I'm happy to be here, and eager to meet the rest of you survivalist lovers.
Trevor

Re: Never too much love
Tue, March 6, 2007 - 11:51 AMWith a pocket knife and some string and MacGyver, we're set!
My most difficult thing is paring things down to fit. The car kit is just disappointing, there's not enough room. -

Re: Never too much love
Tue, March 6, 2007 - 12:02 PMMy truck is continually expanding, growing new storage compartments, side racks, rooftop gear, and most recently, an offroad trailer. But no matter how much capacity I add, it's always bursting at the seems.
I'm no good at paring either. What to leave behind? The tiki torches, or the flagpole...?
Like I said, tongue in cheek.... -

Re: Never too much love
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 8:27 AMYou guys are a riot!
I'm also QUITE miserable at that. On my last x-country voyage, I had to stop in every stinkin city to re-assess what was in my car! Roof storage and all...completely packed! I decided to leave behind my fiance at the time somewhere in NB...
just kidding. In retrospect though, I'd rather have the toaster oven. -

Re: Never too much love
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 9:33 AMI had a HUGE fight with my hubbie whilst driving through Nebraska once. One of those horrible communication things where when he said, "Yes", I heard him agreeing to my plan, while what he apparently *meant* was, "I hear you". I did NOT kill him or even abandon him, although I thoroughly felt like it. At that time, I would have probably traded him for a good toaster oven.

Re: Never too much love
Wed, March 7, 2007 - 3:33 PMFor me, what always happens is I get all this grief from my friends on camping trips about how long it takes me to set up my campsite ... and even longer to take down, because everything gets packed in a specific place in a specific order, or it will never fit. But what makes up for it is whenever someone bemoans, "Damn, I could seriously use an olive de-seeder (... or 15/16" crowfoot wrench ... or corkscrew .. or spare AAA batteries) right now!" and I've got the item stowed away someplace. -

Re: Never too much love
Wed, April 4, 2007 - 6:21 PMI have a lot but have learned how to survive on a little. I rather have to much to start and then drop some then not enough. I hope for the best and plan for the worst. I always over pack but never have had to say "Damn I wish I had...."
