Everyone knows about Charles Manson the boogyman maniac hippy cult leader etc., but very few have actually read any of his philosophy like in the Noel Emmons (sic) or Nickolas Shreck books. If you compared his rhetoric with current vegan rhetoric they are actually quite similar. He was writing about his ATWA (Air Trees Water Animals) philosophy thirty years ago. Long before Earth First or any of those groups popped-up.

Anyway, he has a swastika tattooed on his head as everyone knows which is why I'm posting this here. Believe it or not there are still young generations of Mansonites running around. I ran into one in Seattle about ten years ago. The tat look way cool (same - crown chakra) and I told the guy it looked great but despite the tons of swastika jewellery and patches I wear I could never go that far. But more power to him.

Anyway, any thoughts on Manson?

The Navy plans to spend $600,000 for “camouflage” landscaping and rooftop adjustments so that 1960s-era barracks at the Naval Base Coronado near San Diego will no longer look like a Nazi swastika from the air.

The resemblance went unnoticed by the public for decades until it was spotted in aerial views on Google Earth.

But Navy officials said they became aware of it shortly after the 1967 groundbreaking, and had decided not to do anything.

“There was no reason to redo the buildings because they were in use,” a spokeswoman for the base, Angelic Dolan, said. She added that the buildings were in a no-fly zone that is off limits to commercial airlines, so most people would not see them from the air.

“You have to realize back in the ’60s we did not have the Internet,” Ms. Dolan said. “We don’t want to offend anyone, and we don’t want to be associated with the symbol.”

The Navy’s plans were reported Monday in The San Diego Union-Tribune.

The Anti-Defamation League in San Diego has objected to the shape of the buildings.

“We told the Navy this was an incredibly inappropriate shape for a structure on a military installation,” said Morris S. Casuto, regional director of the organization. He added, however, that his group “never ascribed evil intent to the structures’ design.”

Mr. Casuto praised the Navy for recognizing the problem and “doing the right thing.”

The $600,000 for the changes is included in the Navy’s approved 2008 budget.

MADRID (Reuters) - Spanish fashion chain Zara has withdrawn a handbag from its stores after a customer in Britain complained swastikas were embroidered on it.

Zara, owned by the world's second largest fashion retailer Inditex, said it did not know the 39 pound ($78) handbag had green swastikas on its corners.

The bags were made by a supplier in India and inspired by commonly used Hindu symbols, which include the swastika. The original design approved by Zara did not have swastikas on it, Inditex said.

"After the return of one bag we decided to withdraw the whole range," said a spokesman for Inditex, which has more than 3,330 stores in 66 countries.

Zara pulled the bags after 19-year-old Rachel Hatton told Britain's Daily Mail she asked for a refund when she spotted swastikas on her bag.

"The shop assistants were quite shocked as well to find out this symbol was on there," she told BBC radio.

A British anti-fascism group said the bags were an attempt to legitimize fascism and the Daily Star tabloid newspaper ran a picture of Adolf Hitler next to its story headlined, "Fury over Nazi Fashion Bags."

The swastika is an ancient religious symbol for Hindus and Buddhists, and has represented the sun, strength and good luck to many groups around the world.

Since its adoption by the Nazi Party in 1920, people in the West have associated the swastika with Nazi dictator Hitler.

This is a manifesto by the Friends of the Swastika, some of whom met in Cranbrook, British Columbia in April 1995 and ten years earlier in Swastika, Ontario in April of 1985, to support the re-integration of the swastika as a good luck sign and sacred symbol. The founding members of the Friends of the Swastika, ManWoman, Guru Svastika, Douglas Youngblood, and Carolyn O'Neil (the town historian), held their first meeting and Swastika Conference in Swastika, Ontario in 1985. Residents of Swastika, Ontario had to fight hard to keep their town's name during the Second World War. The Canadian government wanted to change it to "Winston" to honor Churchill.

The swastika has been a symbol of benediction for more than five thousand years in almost every culture of the world, including the Jews. It has been the hope of many human beings of different belief, race and color for prosperity and brotherhood.

The swastika had universal status in a non-political way until it was misused by Adolf Hitler in the Second World War. The common view of the swastika in the West then became the opposite of the original benign, happy symbol. It became the most dreaded of all signs--tarnished with the horrors of war. Now, it is still being used by skin-heads and terrorists to intimidate law-abiding citizens. On the other hand, over half of the world's population still honors the swastika in the Hindu and Buddhist traditions.

The Friends of the Swastika is a non-political, grass-roots group of friends anyone can be a part of. It is the aim of FOTS to detoxify the swastika through education for use in its original meaning--the auspicious energy at the center of life. If enough people agree, it will change! We, the undersigned, after years of collective interest and research, declare the swastika to be innocent of the crimes perpetrated in its name under the Nazi banners. Five years of war cannot be allowed to wipe out five thousand years of sacred history. We declare that the swastika has an independent life. We say, "To hell with Hitler"!

hi there

my name is mojo and i have a beautiful hindu swastik tattoo'd on my arm. i have a feeling to make it part of my life's mission to re-educate as many people as i can about the true origins of the swastika... as a symbol of something beautiful and good.

every symbol only has the meaning that each person gives it... and every belief is true FOR THE BELIEVER... so it makes me sad that so many people give the holy swastika a meaning of evil and death, making that meaning true for themselves, when the symbol itself is over 5,000 years old and has always represented Light, Love, God, The Center of the Universe, etc.

i propose to change the name of this tribe to "Atonement for the Swastika" and encourage people to post as many positive images of swastika use that they see. i myself just traveled in india for 2 months and photographed a bunch, which i will post here.

so... members of this tribe... please post your comments and lets get Tribe to fix our name here and get a new moderator.

I thought I would start this link as a place to discuss what's new with Manson, Red, Blue, Tex etc. News has it that Lynette "squeaky" Fromme, also known as "Red" (Order of The Rainbow) is scheduled to be released soon after completing her 30-year sentence for attempting to assassinate President Ford in Sacto in 1975.

Hey, well I have been interested in this subject for some time, but have not put any real effort into researching it. I realize that the swastika has deeper roots then the usual perception. I have heard that its orgins lie in Norse Paganism and Shamanism....but I'm pretty clueless. Would you be willing to share your thoughts on the matter? I am sure you have quite a few, but a summery would be cool and totally appreciated. Now I guess I could follow some of those links hey? Now that I mention it I guess I will. Thanks :)

happy to crack the ice with the 1st post on the board - do you want champagne?

and what a no. to start off on. well there is a wirl wind of controversy about 666 'the mark of the beast'. does this cause chaos? is this a misunderstood symbol? or is it just cultural hype? it's presently piqued my curiosity.

consider a barcode. find one and trace the 6 longest lines. there are 2 pairs of long lines on either side of the code, another pair directly in the centre. each pair (of the longer lines) represents a 6. so there you have it, 666 staring at you square on in the face. its on every product you puchase that contains a bar code.

consider www which can be decoded as 666 in the greek (or possibly hebrew?) alphabet, and how internet buisness is taking over.

consider a biblicle line in apocalypse thats relates that no product will be sold or puchased without the beastly mark. maybe that is just jumping to conclusions, but

it just makes one think.

i am interested in the philosiphy of 666 from the point of view of sacred geometry and numerology also...or from whatever angle.
