I thought some of my fellow whores might have some musings about this clip.
Does anyone else have a "thinking couch," security blanket, or special charm which helps you be more productive? Is this mere fetishism or something more? Has anyone had a boss like this who recognized sub-par performance and was willing to accomodate an outlandish request?

Re: Unreasonable requests that make perfect sense, object fetishism, and keys to better performance
Tue, March 20, 2007 - 8:30 PMI tried meth, but ultimately, coffee is just easier.
Seriously, though, I've seen the trait in just about every seriously talented person I've ever met. Sometimes it takes a while to spot what "it" is, but often "it" is accommodated so skillfully by the person in question that one doesn't learn about it for years.

Re: Unreasonable requests that make perfect sense, object fetishism, and keys to better performance
Wed, March 21, 2007 - 10:23 PMYeah, you're right.
On using things to work better? I remember in high school and college I had favorite jewelry to wear during finals. Then, when I was actually in class taking the final, it would all suddenly bug me and I'd have to take off all my jewelry and put my hair into a pony tail off my neck. THEN and only then could I take my tests. Sometimes did that when I was writing papers. Although at home, I usually lit a candle to put it by the typewriter when I wrote my papers. My roommates called it my call to the muse. -

Re: Unreasonable requests that make perfect sense, object fetishism, and keys to better performance
Thu, March 22, 2007 - 7:00 AMI had TERRIBLE TERRIBLE OCD when I was a kid all the way up until I was about ten years old and I absolutely FORCED myself to stop it....I mean total force and concentraction of will power...it was super hard because I was the OCD kid that had to take a shower in a certain way and if I messed up any of the routine I had to get out of the shower and start over from the beginning....walking....I had to put equal pressure on each foot and take equal amounts of steps with each foot no matter where I was going, so that if I got to my location and one foot had made an extra step I had to go back to where I started from....okay...you get the picture right? So. I think having to have a certain object reminds me way to much of when I used to be a freaky OCD kid a little too much...nope. no object fetishism here.....but I do like to wear heels when I do a strip tease....nothing fetishist about that though. -
