The entire concept of Synapse Village is based on interaction of individuals with one another through the various installations of receptors and synapses. In the brain, a receptor neuron is specialized to be highly sensitive to a specific type of stimulation, such as light, sound waves, touch, or certain chemicals. A synapse is an event, which takes place at the junction within the gap between neurons, as a result of the stimulation to the receptors, whereby information is transmitted from one neuron to the next. As information in the brain is transmitted from one neuron to the next by way of a synapse occurring between receptors, so, too will the public be conducted as an impulse to and from receptors through synapses.
A meme is a basic building block of our minds & culture, similar to the way a gene is a basic building block of biological life. Metameme is state of awareness where a person or group is conscious of a particular meme (idea/concept) in which they are involved. In this state, these individuals not only recognize the meme in play, but consciously propogate that meme through their actions and interactions with others. If applied in a group dynamic, the result may be an intentional cohesion displaying a syntropic nature where all persons, creativity, skills, and resources may be integrated, unified, and in turn amplified for the benefit of the whole. In short, collective, conscious evolution.
Synapse Village is a representation of our greater Colorado Burning Man family. It is a collaboration of several smaller camping families, working together to share talents, resources, knowledge, equipment and energy. It has been an ongoing, living experiment involving the memes of Burning Man and how those have spread from the playa to our home in Colorado, where they have shaped our regional culture. Our gift to the greater Burning Man family is to bring our smaller family’s finest presentation of those memes to our home in BRC. Our basic philosophy is simple: to create as fine a canvas as possible for artists to present their work; to allow for the freedom of each artist or group to pursue their endeavors and expressions unencumbered; to have the mutual respect, tolerance and trust necessary for this collaboration; to give our best and to celebrate one another and with each other and our larger Burning Man family. Besides, we all love to work hard, to play hard & to love hard together, as it is.
