He claimed EVERYONE was paid and no one was owed money. if they said they hadnt been paid yet they were liars. his exact words... we asked other dancers involved with ibdc no one else has been paid yet

Thank You Sweetie. We feel the contestants deserve to be paid during the event.

I looked on his web site and he still says he will have another IBDC in 2008 amd stuff in 2009. He was also asking for reviews of the IBDC. Only one was posted, so I figure that was the only possitive one.

When we talked to Alex last week, he made no mention of 2008 but did say he has been working on 2009 already. We wanted to say lots of things about that, but decided to wait and make sure the check actually clears first. He did say he hasn't posted anything about 2009 yet. And he was still complaining that part of his issues in 2007 were due to sabatoge from people in the community that didn't want his event to succeed. So I'm sure if he does do another event and it's not successful that he will blame it on "accidents" and everyone else as he did this time. But I digress....

We are happy we got paid finally. And have our fingers crossed that all our other sisters get their checks soon!!!! It would be nice to just move on and focus our energies on all the other worthwhile and reputable events coming to Vegas, like the Intensive and WOW.

I really hope he doesn't try this again. It has been so hard on everyone, even those of us that weren't very involved.

I must concentrate on the possitive and not his negativity.

    Have Great fun at TF8

Well...you and I have very personal reasons that we don't want Alex to bring the IBDC back in 2009. But hopefully we will have the upper hand in terms of ethics & experience. I don't wish Alex any ill-will, but I would prefer that he realizes that between the Tribal Massive in the spring and the Intensive/WOW in the fall...that the Vegas community can't really support another event. He'd be better off trying a different market.

I agree...I would mush rather support our local "up and coming" events and such than someone trying to steal the show from us.

Having taught workshops all over the intesive and tribal massive don't have to be the only events in town, and I think it's wrong to discourage any of our local people from putting on events!! Yes, Alex made serious errors, but it helped the intensive that year, and for sure this year because people at rakkasah who had signed up for the intensive mistook it for the IBDC, and they were excited, so we got a lot more business at the intensive due to the IBDC.

Should he pay up, hell yes, I'm one of the people who hasn't been paid, but a lot of out of state dancers want to see it happen again, and as long as he schedules it at a different time of year I think it's fine.

If anyone schedules a big event that doesn't overlap the tribal massive and the intensive then I think we should welcome it!!!! When I was teaching my workshop in San Jose, there were 2 other events going on the same weekend. Like Delilah said, there is enough for everybody if we just wish each other well and support as much as we can.....I think it's called good Karma, the flip side of that is what happened in Las Vegas in the 80's, certian teachers and promoters thought they OWNED Vegas, and anyone who did something on their own was an outcast. It was soooooo ugly, everyone had to choose sides, it's all crap, I won't ever be a part of a community that supports that!!!!

I want to edit/add that my previous post was in no way trying to defend the actions of the IBDC or Alex, but since he is the topic of this post, I used him as the example, but I really meant in in general terms of events.

We have a dancer that moved to Vegas 6 months ago and is great friends with Ansuya and she go all excited and wanted to bring her the weekend after Tori had her Bollywood workshop, so I stepped in and said, it's great that you have the connection to bring Ansuya, and we will support it, just know that we have a 3 week Ladies agreement about scheduling events.
She was very thankful that I informed her of our rules we have laid out, but in no way would I want her to feel she isn't allowed to hold shows or workshops or dance camps etc
I just wanted to make sure I didn't come off to harsh in my previous post, or that you can't bash Alex, by all means, if he has wronged you, bash away, LOL!!!!

I am very pleased that Las Vegas has welcomed me and WOW. I love the very possitive response I have gotten about Wiggles of the West moving here.

I know what you are talking about Aradia, about "owning Vegas" in the old days. I used to own a magazine, Wiggle Hips, and I was very aware of the toxic scene that used to be here. I sure wouldn't want to see that again.

My big thing about Alex is that he needs to pay everyone: teachers, dancers, and contestants. And that all payments should be recieved by those owed, before he makes plans for a new event.

As to new workshop sponsors bringing more workshops in, all I can say is cool. As long as they give enough time inbetween so we can all afford to support them. I love our Ladies agreement.

thanks Janie, me too, I enjoy having someone else do the work sometimes, so I can hang out and enjoy the workshop. I am not defending Alex in that sense, he paid Tabu and I'm happy about that, I just hope he gets everyone else taken care of, and I believe he will, it's taking toooo long, but I know he really wants to save his reputation and not be labeled as another scaming Egyptian.

:) aradia thats why we love you!!!! thank you for having such an open mind and still dispite all of it being so compasionate. Alex did lots of people wrong, and i personally will not be supporting any events goldstar entertainment puts on. Did Alex make good on his promise to pay us? yes he did,but he also spoon fed Raven and I loads of bullshit*sorry for the curse word* we sat there with him spewing his lies about everyone being paid and him owing no one. yeah right. doesnt matter how much he says he made good on his promises i still dont trust him. so for me personally i wont support this event. they took a bunch of people for a ride*intentionally or not* instead of starting a bit smaller and progressing they tried to jump the gate with a bang instead and got buried!

Whew...I need to clarify what I said.

In my post , I had said that between the Massive in
the spring and the Intensive/Wow in the fall that I hoped Alex would
see that Vegas could not support another event....What I should have
said was that I didn't feel that AT THIS POINT IN TIME that Vegas
could financially support another LARGE event. I didn't mean to make
it sound like the two events (technically 3 with Wiggles of the West)
were the ONLY thing that needed to be available here. That wasn't my
            intention at all.

I am 100% open to other people in the community doing things.
The "tribal nights" thing sounds great....and if someone wants to
sponsor Ansuya, great (I tried to book her for 2009 but she wouldn't
commit to anything more than 6 months--which is a whole other
thread!). Truly, my vision for this community has always been about
growth. I don't believe that there isn't room for things as long as there is
open dialouge between promoters and we support each other.

I do think there is a certain amount of
"saturation" that a market can bear. There is a 3-week ladies agreement
that most of our sponsors in the community operate by and it is
truthfully something that is necessary at the moment because our
community isn't large enough (yet) to support multiple workshops on
the same weekend. I am sure eventually it will be. And personally, I think large
events need an even larger time frame.

I hope that makes my own perspective a bit more clear. And I hope
everyone has known me long enough to realize that I would never want
Vegas to become a seething miserable exclusive clique place.

Aradia, I appreciate your willingness to bring your
comments to the table so that clarification is possible. And all that being
said, yes, if another event showed up that operated with integrity, I would
be more than happy to support it.

            Samira
