-Las Vegas Tribal Nights, July 31
-Las Vegas Bellydance Intensive, Viva Raks Vegas show on Sat, Sept 6 (We will also be hosting the Intensive Afterparty on Sun, Sept 7 more details to come)
-Pagan Pride Day, Sept 27
-Aziza show, Oct 4
-Las Vegas Rennaisance Festival, Oct 10 -12 (Tabu will be performaning as a troupe and also with Tabu presents the Tribes of Wadi Annar which is a special collaboration with other dance artists)

On a side note, we are also very excited for Nisha's upcoming performance at ShadowDance 2008 in Oakland, Ca on Nov 14th and I'm excited and honored to perform at Tribal Rendezvous Pre Party show in Idyllwild, Ca on July 26th.

Tabu kicked some SERIOUS booty at Punk Raqs this weekend!!!
They performed twice, once at the pre-party at Skandal, and once at the main event...

It was wonderful ladies. The three of you never cease to amaze me with your troupe dynamics, emotion, and just plain AWESOMENESS.

I have to give props to Ms. Shalini, too, who rocked the cue cards at the main event yesterday. ;) You are lovely.

Exciting News about Tribal Nights

Tabu is pleased to announce our featured dancers for our first Tribal Nights on June 19th will be Marisa and Britt!!!! We are so excited to feature their fun and hypnotic style of tribal fusion.

There is no cover charge. So bring your family and friends and enjoy a delicious dinner, tasty appetizers, and a smooth hookah! : ) We will also have performances by Inara, Raven, Nisha, Shalini, and more, as well as open dancing. Tabu at Punk Raqs

Tabu is excited to be performing our *new and improved* zombie routine at Punk Raqs on June 29th at 5:23pm. We will also be resurrecting our infamous Revolution routine (first performed at the Tribal Massive and well received at Tribal Fest 8) at the Punk Raqs Pre Party on Sat., June 28th at 9:40ish.

Punk Raqs is being held at Cal State San Bernardino (just a 3 hour drive from Vegas). Ariellah and Marjhani are headlining this event! We'd love to see some of our Vegas peeps there.

Last Night's Inara and Nisha BDay Bash

Last night was so awesome. We saw Inara dance and she was beautiful as always. There was cake, food, booze, and hookah. Then we migrated to Quinns for some good old fashioned Irish drinking dancing and rowdiness. The drunk guys were out in full force and Yasmin had to open a can of whoop ass on a few to protect and serve...lol. I think last night would have been a night we all would have been going to jail. I swear some people really should not drink.

On the plus side their was cake body shots and Darby kicking ass on the stage. I really love that band. Nisha and Inara doing a birthday chug was so freaking funny and Nisha you have my respect chugging with a coke....ouch!

A Conversation with a Belly Dancer is a new column created to get to know more about our favorite belly dancers. What they love, how they find inspiration, and more! I hope you enjoy reading this column as much as I enjoyed writing it. It really was a lot of fun!

This month, I interviewed the up and coming troupe, Tabu! These gals are so much fun and they are fabulous dancers. They have won first place awards at both the Hips of Fury and the International Belly Dance Competition. Their moves will work on you like a stun gun, you won't be able to take your eyes off of them! Check them out on the web at www.myspace.com/tabutriballv. Here are some juicy details from the girls of Tabu!

Blume: How did you begin belly dancing?
Inara: After I had my son, I was looking for a fun way to get back into shape. On a whim, I took a belly dance class at a rec center. One class turned into two, and then it was all over...I was hooked. I've been obsessed ever since.
Nisha: I saw Deborah of the New World Rhythmatism Enemble perform at a pagan even I had attended. I knew instantly that I had to dance too, so I signed up for classes right away.
Raven: My company hosted a party at a local Moroccan restaurant where I saw Amara dance for the first time. I asked about where to take classes and have been dancing ever since.

Blume: How long have you been a dancer:
Inara: 5 years now
Nisha: I have been a dancer most of my life, but technically I have been dancing 6 years.
Raven: About 12 years.

Blume: Do you choose the music or does it choose you?
Inara: A little of both. Sometimes I have an idea of what I'm looking for and I scour my sources, the interwebs, and friends' collections for the right fit...other times I hear a song and I'm smitten...I swear to God the other day I was strongly tempted to choreograph to "Rock Lobster." Its just that random. I usually try to match the music to the style. If I'm doing a Tribal Fusion with a sprinkling of Saidi, I'll look for music that reflects that...maybe a Saidi rhythm sampled over electronica or something. I strongly believe that music, costume, and dance content should jive, ya know?
Nisha: The music chooses me...it speaks to me, if it doesn't, I don't dance to it.
Raven: Yeah, I'd have to say a little bit of both. Mostly it depends on my mood at the time and what I am wishing to convey through the dance. It helps that my troupemates love such a wide variety of music and we often pick the same music for solos without realizing it!

Blume: Who is your biggest inspiration?
Inara: I have so many, but I geek out the hardest for Rachel Brice, Ariellah, and Frederique.
Nisha: ARIELLAH! ** (**Ariellah will be holding workshops at Punk Raqs: June 29th www.myspace.mecdaie)
Raven: Ariellah and Carolena Nericcio.

Blume: What is your favorite music to dance to right now?
Inara: Right now...hmmm...I like obscure electronica and odd bits from just about anywhere. I listening to "Beats Antique" a lot, but I'm also really drawn to a lot of the old folkloric songs. I love anything with a heavy Mizmar these days.
Nisha: Mostly industrial music or any unusual, unknown music.
Raven: I love so many types of music, everything from folkloric to industrial.

Blume: What costume piece could you not live without?
Inara: Well, these days a bra, lol! I have a bindi fethish though...
Nisha: My Sugar Petals body suit.
Raven: Definately a bra, then I'd say eye lashes.

Blume:
I'm sure that you have many events that you love, but what is your absolute favorite every year?
Inara: I really need to do more events...my list is rather small so far, but growing. It's a tie between Hips of Fury and Gothla...I love small cozy events that let you meet people one on one, and I really love how these two encourage artistic expression trhough alternative styles. Its really a showcase of personality and originality, which I love. Big events are great too, but I always go away from the smaller ones with many more friends.
Nisha: Tribal Fest! and Hips of Fury.
Raven: I love Tribal Fest. So many dancers from around the globe and a great vibe. I also truly enjoyed Hips of Fury for a more intimate gathering of fun and fabulous artists.

Blume: How did you all meet?
Inara: I've been dancing on and off with Raven for about 4 years now. We met in a local BD class and got together to choreograph a dance for the local Ren Faire, lol! We've been in and out of a few troupes together but always seem to get back together. Raven is so darn knowledgable it's silly...plus she is just so flawless in her technique. Tabu was Raven's brainchild and she invited me to dance with her and Nisha for IBDC. I've known Nisha for about 3 years now. It's funny, Las Vegas is such a HUGE city, but its amazing how much like a small town it can be. I knew her from going to karaoke bars way back in the day (yeah, I'm a recovering karaoke junkie, shoot me) and we had mutual friends. Then I saw her dance with Ethnophonica and was just so impressed. It wasn't till I saw her solo work that I was knocked off my seat...she blew me away. I, of course, had to be near the bright, shiny light...anyways, at the time there were very limited choices for Tribal Fusion dancing. The existing troupes were already established and had their own distinct styles, different than our own. It was a natural choice to band together. Plus we all enjoy scaring small children with our routines...;)

Blume: Would you rather live without belly dance or chocolate?
Inara: Oh, chocolate, for sure. I don't have much of a sweet tooth. Belly dance is non-negotiable.
Nisha: Chocolate!
Raven: Definately chocolate.

Blume: Where can we see Tabu next?
Inara: Tribal Fest 8 for sure! We may crash Punk Raqs, either as a troupe or collectively as soloists, but that's to be decided. After that it's the Las Vegas Intensive show. (Go Vegas!)

TABU NYE Aftermath!

Well, I will post more later but I just wanted to let Shalini know that I left my zills (I know I am a bad bad belly dancer) at her house and I left my HP digital camera there as well. I got overlly excited to hit the sack.

This of course happens before I bust my butt on ice on the side walk. More on that later. :P

Anywho I will be alright if any body is wondering, my butt has enough cushion to pad the fall.

New Years Eve Message

This party was loads of fun. An intimate affair but with great people just having a great time. I got a chance to learn a little more about the people of whom I have grown to love. For those of you who opted to spend it in the streets of Las Vegas you missed out

My boyfriend tried to hang in there with us but he was not feeling well so eventually I told him to just go to bed. The trio was looking as hot as ever and because Nisha arrived first I got to see her without her makeup on… still very beautiful. Yasmin was looking great in her electric blue corset. Noora OMG...Noora and the coin bounce on the belly you will get arrested if you do that in the streets. Teresa and Darrin are just about as cute as buttons and I always love it when they are around. Next to Inara and David (sorry he was sick) they are my favorite couple.

This NYE party was also a place where some of our community saw a lot of Shalini...lol. I am proud of my performance even though I can't do any of it at any Hafla. I danced to Tito and the Tarantulas “After Dark” from the From Dusk Til Dawn Soundtrack. It was a little vampire vibe with a touch of S & M….whew!!!!!!. I may be able to get away with it at the Hips of Fury.

My daughter glad you all loved her seafood wontons. It is one of her favorite dishes to make. Ladies you put on a great party and my house is always open to you. Smooches.

ok ladies my workshop is nearly sold out... if we get more interest then the room can hold* only paid people will be considered registered till then you are rsvp'd and not garanteed a spot* we will move to a bigger room... so far i have 14 people registered for the class... technically my class is sold out.. but if i get 5 more people paid to take the class by the 1st of january i can move it to the larger room! but i need to know soon i also have pay pal set up for easier payment... just as a note too this is non refundable as well.. i forgot to mention that in the last post... thanks so much and im looking forward to popin and locking with all of you!

Beginning Tribal Fusion Belly dance With Nisha

This is a 6-week course that will cover the basics of tribal fusion belly dance. You will learn how to isolate your muscles and move with grace and elegance. This 1st 6 weeks will cover, chest, arms undulations, and posture. Please wear form fitting comfortable clothing. Any yoga wear is ok. Please do not wear coin belts; a simple sash or fringe belt will be acceptable. Bring a yoga mat, water and notebook to keep notes on what you learn in class.

For full 6 week course is 90 dollars Jan 3 – Feb 7th

Drop in fee of 20 a class

When: Thursday’s from 6-7 pm At the Physic Eye bookshop on Charleston and Rainbow.

ok so were all excited.. this has been a busy couple of months since we decided to do the IBDC Tabu hasnt stopped doing anything... between ibdc ren faire haflas and gigs we havent had time to breathe lol.... so this coming weekend is our last officially scheduled performance in palmdale, ca. we will be at hips of fury this coming weekend competing in the ultimate troupe category. we will be up against some of californias finest troupes.. we cant wait so show what vegas tribal has to offer the bellydance world. If any of you are going please let us know we would love to hang out and party saturday night before our competition. palmdale is only 3 hours away... it can be a day trip!!! hope to see you all there.. perhaps you'll be welcomeing back tabu as 1st placers in the ultimate catergory... even if we dont win we will still have fun! :)

IF YOU MISSED MATTEOS YOU MISSED OUT! big thank you to Shalini and Yasmin for making the trek to boulder city to come support us!!! it means alot to us!!!!! you guys continue to support us and for that we owe you!!!! :)))) The gig went well and we were well recived* except for a few juvenile people in the audience and a guy trying to french kiss me* the crowd was small but fun and there were lots of smiles. the owner of Matteo's loved us!!! looks like we might have more gigs out there! we will see... to those of you who wanted to come but couldnt we understand! we still love you anyway!

ok so.... this is delayed but better late than never! i just want to say thank you to all of those who came and watched us dance at renfaire this year! we had so much fun! thank you to Britt,Marissa and Shalini for showing up to the henna party. i think we should be doing another one soon for those who missed it this time around. we can not thank you all enough for your continued support!! it means the world to us!

Tabu needs your help!!! were throwing a henna party!!!

date: 10/9/07 *yess right before ren fair!*
time: 6 pm
where:TBA

so here's the deal we will have two henna artists there to serve your henna addictions. there will be limit on size of henna you will be able to get.*because of the amount of people waiting to get henna*
30 dollars gets you in and gets your henna done.
**** everyone's skin is diffrent some people's skin takes better than others, henna done on the trunk of the body doesnt always come out to dark and may fade as quickly as 3 days****

if you'd like more henna done than what the 30 dollars will get you will be charged accordingly for above and beyond the size limit. *** the size limit is basically the size of your palm, the 30 will get you both hands or both feet or a design on the back or tummy ***

light foods and drinks will be provided as well some music to chill to while waiting

Where: Club Sport 2100 Olympic Ave. Henderson, NV 89014 (Yay for clean floors!)

What: Tribal Fusion Bellydance Baby! Challenging for and open to all levels. Not hard enough? Need another layer? I've got it for ya!

How Much: All 6 weeks Member- $70
All 6 weeks Non-Member- $80
Drop-Ins: $15 per class
