"Angora Fire" Update
3,500 evacuated
229 homes destroyed
Property damage est. $161 million (not including infrastructure)
900 structures immediately threatened
3,100 acres burned (4.7 sq mi)
2,174 firefighters
22 strike teams
55% contained (protective perimeter)
Wind gusts >40mph

Firefighters were gifted by unexpected calm winds Wednesday,
containing 55% of the fire's perimeter.
Yesterday, 25mph gusts spread burning cinders outside of containment
burning 300 acres adjacent to residential area. Evacuation
continues.
Expected 40+ mph gusts this evening and night keeping everyone on
edge...

A board smacked me in the head while I was assisting evacuees.
Jiggled my brain.
My teeth are glad my braces kept them in my head,
but it's interesting seeing them through the holes in my lip.
This must be when I re-sprained the ankle that kept me from Flipside.
Wish it knocked some sense in me.
LOL.

Thanx for all your emessages, encouragement, and support!
Makes my day!

Wish us luck!

-The Angora Fire was 100 percent "Contained" as of 6 a.m.
(means that fire crews have put a line around 100 percent of the fire
to reduce its chances of spreading. There are still flames burning.)
      -3100 acres burned
      -At least 254 homes destroyed
      -3500 evacuees
-459 fire personnel still at the fire, including nine hand crews, 23 fire engines and one helicopter.
-The forest closure order for the burned areas will remain in effect at least through Nov. 30.
-People are not allowed in the burned home areas without law enforcement escort.
-The fire will be turned over to the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit at 6 p.m.
      -There are no other restrictions.

Except for the localized devastation, the Lake Tahoe region appears unscathed.
      Amazing!
The air is fresh and clear, and the skys are blue.
      Whew!

Please tell everyone to come and celebrate
the birth of our great nation
at one of its most beautiful places!

You are always at home with Painless...
      Thank you all!
