SUNNYVALE, CA –

In celebration of the creative expression and highly evolved concept of Burning Man, Free Run Pictures, is screening their documentary, “Burning Man: Voyage in Utopia” an immersion into a journey towards a new world, at the Sunnyvale Performing Arts Center located at 550 E Remington Ave Sunnyvale, California on Thursday October 16 and Friday October 17 at 8 Pm.

Synopsis:
Every year, tens of thousands of participants migrate to the vacant heart of the Wild West, The Black Rock desert in Nevada to celebrate Burning Man. Without a doubt the experience is extreme in this lost world of huge heat, desert storms, no shade, and no shops. Everybody must survive by themselves by bringing their own food and hopefully their good spirit. These “burners” mix their urban culture with a certain type of improvised tribalism. According to Larry Harvey, the principals are simple. Radical self expression and creation are absolute. No money here. All is based on a gift economy!

Three Clips of the film
Documentary 85 minutes.

Voyage in Utopia by the Black Rock Foundation.

http://blackrockarts.blogspot.com/2008/07/voyage-in-utopia-this-friday-at-castro.html

The purpose of this documentary, through an extraordinary voyage, is to analyze the conventions, commitments and syndromes of this event and how it became a movement. Carnaval, tribe or mystic retreat ? This big uproar for some will stay as a spiritual experience for the others. The film depicts the journey of artist David Best through the building of the “temple.” David Best dedicates this interactive artwork to the departed love ones and to the miracle of life. He’s offering his own creativity to the community. A clever anachronism, a miraculous idea and an exemplary symbol. The citizens of Black Rock City take ownership of it and write messages to their families, their friends, their departed love ones. The temple is full of tributes and becomes a sanctuary.
The frenzy turns into meditation in that lost desert where the world is reborn each year from its own ashes ...

“Voyage in Utopia” is a remarkable piece of storytelling. It does what our event is said to do. It evokes the inexpressible, it invites imagination to inhabit the unknown,” says Larry Harvey, founder of Burning Man.
Filmmakers/producers, Laurent Le Gall, Sandrine Di Rienzo and Gregory Martoglio, team-up to capture the true essence of Burning Man, a schizophrenic testimony of an American society where liberty, tolerance and individualism often live side by side with competition, totalitarianism and consumerism. Just as impressive, the original musical score composed by French recording artist, Nelly Mella, blends a marvelous melody of vocal chants and captivating rhythms.

Billed as one of the best films about Burning Man ever seen, “Voyage in Utopia,” is sure to inspire a society of cultural rebels and grab the hearts and souls of viewers worldwide.

New regulations proposed from BLM for BM 2008

There has been an on going discussion about the tremendous amount of
Playa that is inadvertently removed from the Playa each and every
year. The Playa dust collects inpeoples cloths, tents, trucks, and so
on. The impact on the ancient lake bed is becoming a concern and the
fear is, we might run out of playa over the next few decades or
longer. Reports from scientist and landscapers concur and the lack of
playa would result in a much different event. Just 1 pound of playa
per attendee results in 50,000 lbs of playa or 25 tons lost, every
year! Over ten years that equal 1/2 million lbs of playa, gone
forever!

If you have thoughts on how we can best prevent the thousands of
pounds of playa from disappearing from the playa every year, please
submit your ideas to the think tank. We can preserve the playa, but
only if we leave it there and quit bringing it home with us. There
will be a collection barrel located on I-80 for those concerned
enough to pull over and shake out their rugs, fabrics, and dusk masks.

Hi!! I would like to introduce myself to the tribe. I'm ~T~ could be sweet as fresh country tea or as much trouble as trouble can be. HaHa I am from Tahoe and just finally made it to burning man this year for the first time...YAY. The only regrets are that I had waited so long to go. I now live in the San Fran area and hear that Tahoe is finally being blessed by the snow Gods. I am often "home" and would love to be connected to the family. Peace~

- Lake Tahoe, CA -
2007-6-28 @ 6pm

"Angora Fire" Update
3,500 evacuated
229 homes destroyed
Property damage est. $161 million (not including infrastructure)
900 structures immediately threatened
3,100 acres burned (4.7 sq mi)
2,174 firefighters
22 strike teams
55% contained (protective perimeter)
Wind gusts >40mph

Firefighters were gifted by unexpected calm winds Wednesday,
containing 55% of the fire's perimeter.
Yesterday, 25mph gusts spread burning cinders outside of containment
burning 300 acres adjacent to residential area. Evacuation
continues.
Expected 40+ mph gusts this evening and night keeping everyone on
edge...

A board smacked me in the head while I was assisting evacuees.
Jiggled my brain.
My teeth are glad my braces kept them in my head,
but it's interesting seeing them through the holes in my lip.
This must be when I re-sprained the ankle that kept me from Flipside.
Wish it knocked some sense in me.
LOL.

Thanx for all your emessages, encouragement, and support!
Makes my day!

Wish us luck!
