i recently acquired a giveaway copy of a computer video game (which i haven't played yet) called A Force More Powerfull: The Game of Nonviolent Strategy. it aims to teach the player about nonviolent strategies for affecting social change. this intrigues me, because most video games are VERY war and violence oriented see:

if i REALLY like this thing, i might give copies for Christmas. we'll see.
please use the rest of this thread to discuss games, sports, hobbies or pastimes of ANY kind (competitive or noncompetitive) that you directly engage in. or, if you want to talk about games that you *watch* rather than play directly, that's okay too.

Sat, May 3, 2008 - 8:44 AMwhen I worked for the peace group, we used to hold a non-violent toy fair around Christmas. That was pretty cool stuff. Going back like 12 years ago...don't remember too much. I know that we didn't have any computer stuff at that time.
I guess you could check with the major peace groups if they know of that kind of thing..
here are a few

War Resisters League
AFSC
Fellowship of Reconciliation
Pax Christi
WILPF (Women's International League for Peace and Freedom)

Re: games, sports, assorted pastimes
Sun, May 4, 2008 - 4:25 AMthe tournaments i've been to are at Buddhist temples in Rhode Island. They're so beautiful & tons of good food too. It's usually a Lao Cultural Festival that hosts & teams come from all up and down the east coast to compete. My husbands team doesn't compete because they're not pro, but it's fun (and sometimes dangerous) to watch!
he's not Lao, but he's on a Lao team & he speaks the language & he's gotten really good over the years. the first time he really played he came home SO injured. but he practices every day & now he's dangerous! i'll post some pics.
