If you don't have this performace dvd, you should order it from Tamalyn. It is awesome. I love all the folkloric dances, and there are lots of performaces......I'm really happy I got it!!

Bellydancing UW, a UW-Madison student organization, invites you to attend our 8th Annual Workshop and Spring Show, featuring exciting workshops with internationally-renowned performer, instructor, and author Tamalyn Dallal on Saturday, April 12th, 2008. The morning workshop will focus on Ms. Dallal's own technique; the evening session will cover the art of the drum solo and a shimmy intensive. Vendors will be available to cater to all of your shiny costuming needs! The day-long workshops will conclude with the Spring Show at 7:30PM in the historic Wisconsin Union Theater, showcasing stunning performances from Tamalyn Dallal and talented dance artists from the Midwest. Driving up to Duncan for the Show and workshops and have a private & semi-private lined up for her visit here to Victoria. Now I just have to work on the piece I would like her to critique.

Seven Veils

Last night I saw a youtube performance clip of Tamalyn dancing with seven veils. I had to watch it with sound off becuase hubby was sleeping! It was beautiful.

Watched it again this morning with the sound and it was even more breathtaking. She chooses such a variety of emotional music and then brings it alive before our eyes. Mesmerizing and utterly moving!

I can't wait for her to come back to Vancouver Island!

I hope all is well and that you are well. I've been working like crazy on the final touches of my new book "40 Days and 1001 Nights". It has been more work than anyone can imagine but is coming out great! It should be ready some time this summer

Friday, May 11, 6:30-8:30pm I'll be teaching a workshop about dancing to the Semaii rhythm loaded with technique and history.

Sat., May 12, 2-5pm I am teaching a workshop in using ethereal and earthy energies in your dance. Of course, we'll be dancing a lot!

The above two workshops will be at Bozenkas Bellydance Academy, (The site of the former Mid Eastern Dance Exchange, 350 Lincoln Road, #505, Miami Beach) www.bozenkasbellydanceacademy.com (305)538-1608.

For these workshops, I'll be using a Semaii cd that has lots of versions of Lamma Bada as well as one that just came out called "House of Taarab" with a great band who playse music from Egypt's "Golden Age" (1930's to 1950's). This also has incredible taksims- Nay, oud, and one of the most amazing violin solos I've heard yet, as well as a drum solo that's perfect for dancers.I'll bave it for sale at my workshops.

Also on Saturday, May 12 I will be showing my film, "40 Days and 1001 Nights" at 8pm in a cozy studio setting- at the Lotus Dance Center, 9117 Taft, Pembroke Pines.(954)433-5522

Monday, May 14, I will teach a workshop entitled "Tamalyn Dallal Technique" also at the Lotus Dance Center. Make sure to bring your veils and zils for this one. 7-9pm

May 17-20 is the much loved Orientalia Festival and workshop series. This has been a yearly and sometimes twice yearly event since 1994, but now it is the last one. Orientalia involves over a year of planning, fundraising and doing paperwork. I have organized this one and some of the others while overseas or out of state, and they have always been a treat!

The festival, Friday May 18, 7-9pm (FREE) Special guest artists are: Mohammed Shahin of Egypt. He will be performing "Double Assaya" (stick dance from southern Egypt), Nubian, (Arab- African dance from Aswan), and the magnificent "Tanoura" (Whirling Dervish with a giant weighted skirt- cape that has to be seen!). Our other star, Ahmet Luleci from Turkey is an extremely sought after performer of strong and masculine Turkish folkloric dances. Back just for Orientalia is the much loved dancer and teacher who moved to Virginia a year ago, Shahar. Sevdije who lives in Tampa is of Albanian-Turkish heritage and will share her unique style of dance. From Gainesville, the beautiful and talented Najmah will dance, accompanied by Flamenco guitarrist, Goliath.Michigans Asianne, will fuse Asian and Middle Eastern styles, Alessandra from Costa Rica, Francesca, Portia, Nathalie, Roshanna, Amalia, Xiomara, the Shri Shambala Dance co., Bellycraft, and Bozenkas Bellydance Academy troupe will grace the stage.
Orientalia 2007 is dedicated to Men who dance, and invited artists include Andruz, Amrit, Harissa, and Jose (and maybe some special surprises).

Afro Cuban Folklore ~ The Dance of the Orishas!

Tai lived in Cuba where she learned the Dances of the Orishas and so much more on Afro Cuban Folklore. Lotus is lucky to have her every Monday after the African Drum Class (it all starts at 7:30pm) and as if that wasn't all,

Zeva of Venus Rising, drums for Tai's Class. So, you are learning to live music! Live African Drums!

This class is not a religious one, only the history behind the dances are taught. Cuba's rich African history is being taught through dance and I am very proud to host it.

Tamalyn will be back for a one day workshop in Vancouver, BC on April 1st. She is such a terrific instructor that I would love to attend but, alas, the workshop is on Sunday and I don't do Sunday stuff for religious reasons.

I am envious of the 50 participants who will benefit from her great style and approachable, generous, knowledgable self!

Just had an awesome weekend with Tamalyn here in Victoria.

I only attended the Saturday workshop (which was fantastic) but was lucky enough to have two additional semi-private classes with her.

I love, love, love her style!

Not to mention she is very generous, humble, kind and approachable. I must say I am very happy to know that she is now locted in Seattle so I hope to cross paths with her again and take more classes.

What Tamalyn Dallal is doing is what should have been done a long time ago, I am so happy that finally there will be a documentation of these dances and music.
