After reading Thorn’s response to “Help from language experts!” I think I Googled the same source and found another funny word origin.
Answer to a question about the origin of the name “WGASA” on the San Diego Wild Animal Park safari ride train:
Wgasa was an acronym used by two local wags as a substitute for "Who gives a shit anyway?" They suggested "Wgasa" as a nicely African-sounding name for the safari ride, failing to mention to the Zoological Society the other connection.
This reminded me of the word “snafu” which originated in WWII as an acronym for “Situation Normal, All F***ed Up”.
Anybody got more of these?
George
