WADA AGM and Workshop Saturday 11th October 2008

Just a reminder to those of you who are WADA members that it is the AGM this coming Saturday. Time 2pm at the Scout Hut, St Marks Avenue, Salisbury. We are also presenting Algerian Mountain Dance Workshop from 3-5pm.

The workshop is one of the famous Algerian dancer Amel Tafsout's authentic folk dances. It will be taught by the very talented Liz Newman who is coming from Cornwall to take the group.

The cost of this workshop is £12 payable to WADA and members can pay that on the day, £15 non WADA members.

WADA members may renew at the AGM or workshop

The moves in this workshop will be new to a lot of people so this is pitched at general level so everyone can join in. We will learn typical Algerian movements and then the fun begins as we work in shifting rows! You'll see!

This will be great fun. If you have one, bring a veil because you will wear it as a toga! If you haven't got one, we will lend you one

To book, please email nicolascammell@aol.com or ring 01722 334895 weekends or evenings
As an added extra Liz is going to teach the Gum Boot Dance done by South African miners and you may wish to bring a pair of sturdy shoes or wellies.

Hope to see some of you there!

Best regards
Computer woes!

Why oh why does technology wait until the most inconvenient moment to go wrong???

Yesterday my main computer decided that it had had enough and went and died on me - not a good thing! The offending machine is being assessed by PC World today and hopefully it will be repaired by the end of the week - fingers crossed that I don't need a new one!

What this does mean is that I cannot access the magazine to continue preparing it for printing until I either get the current computer back or have everything transferred over to a new one. So unless they can fix it in the next couple of days I'm afraid that the magazine may be a little late.

If you sent me an email in the last 4/5 days whilst I was away then unfortunately your email is downloaded to the broken PC and I cannot access it, so if you require an answer right now it is probably best to send it again as I can at least access any new emails online.

I'm really sorry about this - we rely so much on technology these days but you only realise just how much when things go wrong!

I am planning on visiting Koeln in October and wondered if anyone could recommend any dance classes, workshops or even websites. I believe it is a good area for Turkish dancing and wouldn't want to miss out.

thanks in advance for any information

Hi everyone,

I am very sorry but the magazine is going to be late. Unfortunately, a technical problem means that I am going to have to recreate the whole thing from scratch starting as of about an hour ago!

I am extremely sorry about this as I know how you all look forward to your magazine and I really do appreciate your support. At the moment all I can safely say is that it won't be with you this week but that it should be with you some time during the next one.

If this is going to affect anyone regarding paid a advertisement for an event please get in touch with me immediately so that we can discuss reimbursement - taqmag@taqasim.org.uk

Again, I am very sorry about this and I hope you will bear with me whilst I sort the problem out.

Kind regards

When do I get my magazine?

A commonly asked question by new subscribers.

Taqasim is published 4 times a year at the end of March, June, September & December.

New subscribers will receive the next issue following payment and we will send you a reminder slip with your last magazine when your subscription is due for renewal.

I do have a small number of extra copies made for each print run but due to lack of storage space I don't hold a big stock of back issues (I live in a *tiny* cottage!). So unless you subscribe within a few days of a magazine being published you will have to wait until the next one comes out to receive your first issue if you subscribe to the paper version. This doesn't apply to the electronic magazine - I can email a copy of that at any time.

So if you subscribe to the paper magazine in January you will not get your first magazine until the end of March - but I can promise it is definitely worth the wait! :-D

Cheers,
Afra

After nicking Sara's copies of Taqasim, and unreluctently handing them back, i finally let the moths outta my purse, and subscribed LOL.

I really enjoy the articles written by the Teacher's/Dancer's, and of course it's great to have a written list of events to look up, as sara does mention up and comming workshop's in class, but i always forget, and then keep asking, lmao!

I also ike the reviews for the D.V.D's as they are not always cheap, and the review's help to decide before i buy whether or not it may be suitable for me.

women's attitude to their bodies, beauty etc

Hi,

I've read the latest Taqasim, and enjoyed Sara's article on acceptance of our bodies. If you are interested in this subject I can really recommend this book:

http://www.mwls.co.uk/shops/lb/product.pl?item=0749912928&ord=0

The author looks at feminine beauty through the eyes of great artists, and the great thing is that all shapes, races and ages are included. Every feature of feminine appearance is regarded as neutral, for example you are given the option of emphasing or disguising big hips, no hips, Dowager's Hump etc. This book makes Trinny and Suzanna look like primary school kids, because it goes into immense detail on how to dress and accessorise for your shape, size, skin texture, colour.

Sara, I first discovered the book in the central library in Basingstoke - it might still be there.

Best Wishes.
Postal Strike

Hi everyone,

With the postal strike threatening to delay over-sized mail items by more than a week, I wondered whether anyone would like to have an electronic copy of their subscription in advance of the paper version?

It's quick and easy to do - all I need is your e-mail address and all you need is a copy of Adobe Reader to view it.

Adobe Reader is free and can be downloaded here - http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Please note that this doesn't affect your subscription - if you usually receive the paper version of the magazine you will still be sent it as normal, but obviously at the moment that is taking longer than usual!

Either post here or e-mail taqmag@taqasim.org.uk to request your copy.

Thanks
Afra
