I'm in the midst of painting the Hanged Man, and it's quite a challenging painting! It is nothing like the original Tarot of Marseilles Hanged Man. Though I have based many of my Major Arcana paintings on this ancient deck, I have taken extreme artistic license with this one by truly delving into the deep core meaning of the card itself and moving beyond the simplistic symbology of the Marseille interpretation.
It is a giant landscape, and as you know the Major Arcana are painted on 5.2 x 3 ft. paintings! It's like being IN the painting when you paint at this size and is my favorite medium. Painting is so pleasurable to me and so very very challening. Every painting I've done has had it's own unique challenges and I've grown so much over the 10+ years I have been working on this project.
Am I being reflective? The Hanged Man is all about reflection upon one's life, and looking down upon the landscape of one's journey - inner and outer - I will say no more! Soon I hope to be posting the finished picture to this site, and sending out the latest card to my Tarot enthusiasts all over the world who have bought a deck and await the latest additions.
I am doing all of this while having a friend babysitt Nini upstairs for 1 or 2 hours while I paint down in the art room, or after I get her down for a nap, or up late at night and thus suffering the next day since I am no longer allowed to sleep in...! She is ten months old next week,, is crawling and babbling nonstop - says Mama and Papa and points at everything. She wants to know about this world she lives in now.
One day Nini will be painting and drawing and going to galleries with her mama and papa, and it will be so great to teach her about art and dance and music and to see her grow and expand her own talents. Creating and raising a child is like a huge art project in itself.
I've always called Tarot of the Pomegranate my "life long" project, and now I have added Anastassia "Nini" Magritt on top of that. Just as TOP has taken on a life of its own and will continue to snowball into something more great, so will Nini. It's inevitable, it's life.
