That tattoo dream

I am, at this moment, completely uninked. But I have seen so many beautiful works of art that you lovelies (and others I have met) get to carry with you for the rest of your lives, and that's been making me think about getting my own work done.

I visited one tattoo shop in town, which I left abruptly. Everyone who worked there seemed strung out and unamused, and they didn't care about working with me to develop a great piece, only to sling it and have it over with. Yikes - thanks but no.

I've been thinking a lot, too, about whether this is something I would want for the rest of my life. And because the answer is "yes, but only if it is done absolutely right, and the way I want it," it's been a bit of a struggle. And there are other monetary issues that have been popping up that prevent me from having ink money.

Anyway, last night, I had this dream that I went to get a tattoo of a full moon in a hazy sky, to 1. See if I'd like it and 2. see if my skin handled the ink well. (That's the other thing - my skin is very acidic. I'm thinking it might be hard for my skin to hold the ink.)
By the end of the dream, the moon shrank and eventually disappeared. Hmm.

So, I guess I'm posting this to hear of any tattoo dreams you've all had, as well as if you've had or know of anyone who had issues with the skin acidity vs. ink.

  • I actually have a really hard time getting henna to say in my skin for more than a week, but I've never had a problem with ink. I've heard green is hard for some people to keep in there skin, I guess it fades a lot very quickly. As for dreams, when I pick out a design, I'm always thinking about them, and with all of my tattoos so far, I've drempt of them on my skin. Sounds weird, but that's how I know it is the right design. it's a really good thing to be fussy about your tatt, cause it's yours. A good artist eill be excited to work on your design. I've had the experience with working with a lazy artist. He didn't really care about how a tattoo ame out, and after he made really stupid mistakes with my arm celtic arm band (some lines were thicker than others, a lot didn;t connect, etc) I went to this guy in the next town and knew he was my guy, cause he was excited to talk to me about fixing my tattoo, and let me do what I wanted, not what was easiest for him.
well, there you go, very long :)
    good luck!
    • I remember how hard it was (is) to walk into a tattoo place the first time. You walk in and think "I see scary people....' and you feel like they're looking at you like 'what is this chick with the blank skin and no holes doing in here?'. Completely paranoid I know, but you can't help it those first times. And alot of times when you don't know much about the tattoo biz you do walk into a place that is like that.

Thats how you know you''ve found the right place when you can walk in and feel like you can fit in there and the people are friendly.

I have had some odd tattoo dreams, one where the ink kept moving around in my skin like a movie and the artist kept trying to 'nail it down' with the gun. It was kinda funny cause I kept yelling 'Get it! Get it! before it moves where I don't want it!' I had another one recently that I was going to post about, but I've forgotten it since I didn't write it down.

I would just recommend you start small and put it in a place where it can be reworked into something else. I got mine centered on my low back(tramp stamp, ha) and my new tattoo is going to curve around it. I'm so glad I didn't get it off to the side because it would mess up the entire flow of the new one (that I am so stoked about getting :D) Its hard to say how your interests are going to change in the years to come. Don't feel like you need to run out and get one now, and if you find that 'perfect!' design, sit on it some more ;) I first got my idea for my WIP tat uhh.....4 years ago and it has changed several times since then subtley. I"m glad I didn't run out and get it as soon as I thought of it or I would be bummed because the current version is so much cooler ;)
  • I like linking dreams to everyday life (its fun to sit and decipher what your dreams may be about), but you could also think of it this way: even if you dream about getting hit by a bus when you wake up it doesn't mean it'll happen. ;-p I'm not trying to sound rude or anything that's just how I see things. ;-p Anyway, if you have an idea you are totally psyched about and you are comfortable with then you should go for it! Find someone that is helpful (always shop around) and someone who is willing to work with your idea and maybe even make it better! :-)
