When looking at jewelry, I notice that some says it is not for stretching ears. I understand why - the materials, etc. But what I'm curious about is how long one needs to wait after stretching to a size to then wear jewelry in that gauge that is not appropriate for stretching? I'd assume there's a point at which it is safe to use that jewelry, because the lobe has healed at its new size. But how long, approximately, is that?

Unnnnnnfortunately, there's nothing on there about how long you should wait until switching to jewelry not fit for the stretching itself. From what I gather, that's something you have to judge by listening to your own body. If you think you're ready, try it; if your ears get pissed, go back to the non-organics and baby it for a little while before trying again.
And let us know how it goes so we can have something to refer to in the future! ;)

Re: Question about gauged jewelry
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:20 AMFor my ears I waited a few weeks after going up a size to wear my pretty kuchi tribal earrings. I made sure to clean my ears really well before and after and didn't have an issue. I haven't tried any bone or wood earrings yet. I think its one of those things where your mileage may vary.

Re: Question about gauged jewelry
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 9:23 AMMileage definitely varies...I actually stretched with earrings made of antler with no problems although I know you're not supposed to do that. I used a lot of Neosporin cream and it was fine.
I figure that when your ears feel healed, try other materials and see what happens. Everyone heals at different speeds and has different sensitivities.
