I'm preparing to teach my first hoop class (TOMORROW! eek!), and I ordered a CD of fitness/ workout music on eBay. I thought it would be perfect... not so much. It sounds like Brittany Spears on speed. So, I'm in dire need of appropriate music for class. I usually hoop to reggae and jam bands. I'm not sure that these are the best choices for the masses, though. Therefore, my iPod is pretty much out. Does anyone have suggestions and/or MP3 links they could post, for easy downloading?

Re: Help! In Need of Class Music
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 7:14 PMsuggestions.. kung fu fighting, fat boy slim, chemical bros., beastie boys, oldies, you spin me right round, um, there are so many, I was trying to remember.. um, I like "Young American' by David Bowie and a remix of Elvis's "Little less conversation(a little more action) .. these have all gone over well. I am sure there are other disco type songs that I use and just can't think of at this hour.. I even used the Police 'every little thing she does' and the band Squeeze's 'Tempted (by the fruit of another) - also.. I have an old album by the B-52s' that is good for hooping, but it is kinda quirky. Okay that is all I can say for now.. Perhaps later I will come up with more ideas.. but oldies with a good beat seem to work well.

Re: Help! In Need of Class Music
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 10:25 PMdj steve boy (.com) makes "podrunner" pod casts... about an hour of music all at the same bpm (I like the 130-ish ones). I find an hour of house-ish gets a bit old... but it's convienent and consistant and when you're moving you don't notice so much!
He has some other ones that I like more... ones that are more funky... but I haven't listened all the way thru to see how they'll work for a class
you can get them from his site or from itunes (all free!)

Re: Help! In Need of Class Music
Tue, June 10, 2008 - 12:21 AMHey have you been on hoop music? Caroleena posted a link to some best of bootie mash ups which I used with some other pretty generic stuff with my new classes. Don't fret to much about the music if they are a new class you will find they are so busy concentrating they aren't really listening I asked for feedback on the music and half of them just looked at me blankly!!! The other thing you can do is bring some stuff that you really like and invite your class to bring their ipods and do the same next week. Hope it goes well! -

Re: Help! In Need of Class Music
Sun, July 13, 2008 - 8:29 AMI just got turned onto "Adele"
and "Groove Armada"
I've been teaching since February 08. I teach 8 years to adult and as long as the music is clean of foul lauguage they seem to dig it. I have thrown in some of that tweeners music for the younger crowd, but they have said they like my music better. So now that you have had a few classes, hows it going?

Re: Help! In Need of Class Music
Sat, August 2, 2008 - 10:20 PMI recommend teaching to the music you love. You'll be turning others onto it also. In fact, in my classes, I do themed classes. One week it's disco, then hip hop, then arabic, then flamenco, then reggae, then jam bands, and so on and so forth. It's a fun way to mix it up. If you decide to do that, we could even share our themed mixes!
