Sadly, the sun came up and brought the heat a little earlier than in years past, and the crowd dispersed a little sooner than we would have liked, and so we missed out on getting to hear Evan Bender or Flook in the late morning. But epic and magical were keywords that were applicable from start to finish.

Core vehicles were Purgatory Cruiser, Neuroweapon, and Disorient DEX (though Disorient REX was there with us in spirit). The Great Abyss provided a nice chill space adjacent to the sound systems, and I lost track after counting over 140 mutant vehicles on parade throughout the night. I can't begin to put a number on the fire performers, or those rejoicing and reveling in the spirits of life and death that grace the space. As always, the playa and the temple is a space that carries a magical energy with it, and I'm proud to be able to help people connect with it in ways they may not have otherwise considered.

While David Best and some of the crew were uneasy with the event at first, they grasped the idea of an irish wake after a time and expressed thanks for our efforts in the end. I thank everyone who attended and respected the art and the space - while our crowd nearly doubled this year we saw only half the trash during cleanup (thanks to those of you who packed it out). About the only real damage I saw was visited on my own art car in the morning hours on Thursday, as some of the spectators used decorative parts of our vehicle's frame to hang coats or lean as they stood in the shade. We got the damage repaired later in the week, and were able to continue sharing the space on Saturday and Sunday so in the end it's all good.

Thank you to everyone who made the 4th annual event possible - from the artists and performers to the bringers of sound and supporters of the dream and those who simply stumbled past and discovered this playa treasure and were able to gain something from it. I am honored to have been in your presence.

Cheers

I myself am a fan of the whompitty whomp whomp, but I ask you to reconsider what has become a tradition. This year I have been very fortunate to have joined the temple crew and have come to a new understanding of the kind of sacred that the temple represents. The topic of amplified music at the temple came up last week at one of our work parties amongst a few of us and what I took away from that casual conversation was that the temple is where people go to have a cathartic experience: To forgive a son who committed suicide; To come to terms with a failed marriage; To say goodbye to your mother or father and to thank them for all that they have given, or to forgive them for all the pain they brought; To weep or scream or shed a silent tear. The temple is sacred as you say, but to me, not in the celebratory way that you describe.

I do not speak for David Best (in fact he wasn't there when this topic came up and he speaks frequently about not telling people how to "use" or "not use" the temple) or any of the temple builders or anyone for that mater but myself, but I ask you to reconsider holding this event at the temple. It just seems disrespectful to the person who wants to mourn.

Also had a giant parade of art cars through the night. Sound support from Space Island and Mekka Oasis.
2006 - Friction, Eskmo, Brian Seed, Oscure, Freq Nasty, Haj, novaTRON, and BreakBeatBuddha. Sound support from Purgatory Cruiser, Disorient DEX, and Miracle Gro plus an even more amazing parade of art cars, and the event lasted into late morning.
