side porch (my dad built it!) on my parent's house
the two houses are fairly close to each other; the other sleeping/living quarters we'll build in the back, behind the two houses. We can put a few closer to the river, some closer to the houses, some in between.
Add in a couple of workshop areas and plant more fruit and nut trees and gardens.... yeah.
Sweetness.

So, no, I would not recommend swimming in it. It's dirt brown, and the currents are intense and crazy.
The benefit of having such a raging strong river is being able to harness the current for electricity.
Eventually, when we have the means to do so (and enough people to split the maintenance duties with) we could put in a saltwater pool.
The closest water for swimming in is in Somerville, I think, or LaGrange. Either way, none very close by.
Also, the banks are 20-25 ft high, so access down there is fairly difficult. We'll have to build something to get down there once we figure out what kind of generator we'll be sticking down there.
My mom wants to add bamboo back there, too, so we can reinforce the banks; we've probably lost about half an acre to river erosion over the last 25 years. Crazy to think we've had this land for 25 yrs!
We could go wading though! That's whut we done fer fun when i's growing up out thur.
Go wadin in Sandy Crik.
