Went to see this last week, finally putting something up here.
Not the in the "finer" category of entertainment, but certainly entertainment! :)
The trailer for this movie threw me completely off. Once I started reading the reviews ("funny!" "Comedy first, Zombie movie second") I had a change of heart. The central character is a plucky, slightly obsessive-compulsive, geeky guy who has survived the Zombie-Apocalypse by making up several rules for survival. The movie starts off by showcasing a few of the rules and leads us in to his current predicament. Along the way, he picks up / is picked up by a few others.
The funny starts off strong, though a couple parts are a bit graphic (in a gory way). Unfortunately, the funny wanes through the stretch of the story where it gets more serious about character development, with only a handful of decent yuks through the end. This is kind of pet peeve of mine now, ever since Superbad - before I saw that movie (and I have to totally agree with her) a friend said, "You know how most comedies start out really funny, but then they try to teach you something? Not Superbad, it's silly funny all the way through". It's now become my yardstick for funny movies, and unfortunately Zombieland falls a little short of this.
There's a really great cameo though, which I won't spoil. :)
Overall, I'd give it a B+.
