I have attended a Margo workshop and have spoken with her myself and she truly is a star and master instructor in every way. Margo has her own dance style that transcends styling labels. It is a treat and an honor to have Margo come to Greenville this October.

Whew! The "Fall for Me Habibi" 2007 weekend is over! Yeah! & Ugh, already? It's alot of work to host a workshop, a Hafla, and a showcase, but it was fun!
The weekend started off on Friday in the mill with, "1001 Pillow Hafla". My students and their friends and family joined us for an evening of performances, both prepared and not prepared. My guests were unaware that they too would have to dance! But everyone danced, even the men and the handicapped! We had a blast! I especially want to mention my students, Nabaal & Musherrah! Nabaal has been involved with MED on and off for 3 years. She had never performed before. She did a beautiful beledi dance to a Fatme Serhan song. You wouldn't think that she was nervous. She graced the stage like she had done it a million times before! Nabaal & her husband, Lou, were also very much involved with the organizational part of the weekend and were saints! I couldn't have done it with out you! Thanks a million!!
Musherrah has been taking lessons from me for 5 months. She danced to a hip-hop song that she choreographed herself. I was very impressed! It is rare that a dancer finds her own voice, her own style so quickly. Musherrah has and she is beautiful! Thank you for being so dedicated!
On Saturday, Mahsati arrived in the Mill to teach us all how to layer. It may sound simple, but we soon found out that shimmies and layering is more than what it seems to be. For the next 3 hours we shimmied various shimmies, walked, leveled changed, chest lifted, and did everything under the sun imaginable or not imaginable. The participants were a wide range of levels, one student had just taken his first lesson earlier that day; another has been dancing for 20+ yrs. Mahsati managed to not overwhelm the beginners, yet she worked and impressed the most experienced dancers. It's rare that a teacher can manage such a wide variety of people, but Mahsati did without batting an eye. I will definitely be asking Mahsati to come back for another workshop, so watch out and keep your calendars open!
Mahsati also did a suprise performance in the Hafla on Friday night, so we were all excited to see her dance again the following night!
Special thanks to:
Maria & Lou Donofrio for support, food, and photos, Dianne Chidester for support, participation, and her hard work, Mark for the photos, Mahsati for the love and the workshop & performance, Stuart for his courage, Alima for her love & support, and ALL others for participating in the workshop and Hafla!
Stay tuned, part 2 to come...................................

So after a long and joyous day of shimmies and layering..................the show!! I'd been having problems with "allergies" so by the time I make it to the Caspian, I have hardly a voice. I showed up way too late, 7:30pm but was ready and excited about the evening. The Caspian was packed! I've never seen that many people in there before. All the dancers had eaten and were dressed in their best and ready to start too. I recruited Nabaal's hubby to do the music and off we went.
The evening started out rough with glitches in the music (scratched, dirty cds were the culprit!) but the girls were cool and calm and we kept going. All the women were beautiful in their costumes and we had a mix of both modern and traditional MED performances. I am in no position to post a critique of all the performances, I'll leave that to others, but I'll just say that it was a very special and magical evening. We really brought out the finest dancers to showcase MED and show the Greenville community what it is really about. It's beauty, it's art!
Those who missed this show, shame on you!
Special thanks to all the performers! Especially Alima, Iona, & Nayna! You don't know how much I love and appreciate you for your support!! Someday, I too will dance so beautifully!
I actually had planned to make this the very last showcase that I produce for a while, but I had so many people ask me about Be My Habibi in Feb 2008 that I will probably continue to produce the two shows.
Anyone wishing to do a move comprehensive review of the show???

I took the Thursday and Saturday classes, and I had a blast. Thurs. class we leared the first sign in the Zodiac,Aries, and a choreography to go with it. At the end of class I was dancing! Also, Saturday's class was a great workout and very informative. You are moving, strengthening and tonning your muscles, all the things needed to be a great dancer, or just a fun way to workout! I had an awsome time. Thank you Ra'eesah for your knowledge, and patience with me. See you next week. Nabaal.

ABOUT MORIA:
Moria's enigmatic stage presence is born from a history of training in San Francisco bellydance technique that combines the Salimpour method, stylization from The Indigo, and Fat Chance posturing. Remembering her mother's early practice of bellydance, her father's study of yoga, and from what later became a background of classical dance and theatre in her youth, Moria was moved to exclusively study bellydance after graduating Magne Cum Laude from the University of California , Irvine . Inspired by the spirit of bellydance as it allows for the organic and gypsy nature of life to move serpentine through space, her personal fusion of circus art, theatre make-up, and rich costuming brings a grace and elegance to tribal bellydance that evokes the majestic. She has performed music and dance in collaboration with Suhaila and Jamilla Salimpour via Bal Anat and The Suhaila Dance Company; with Ziah Ali via Awalim; and currently with Rachel Brice and Sharon Kihara via The Bellydance Superstars. Moria performs and teaches internationally and is well loved within the bellydance community and beyond.

BUT, other dancers in cities as close to us as Atlanta have had some issues with men stalking them. So here is a tribe with info for your own safety:

http://tribes.tribe. net/bellydancerssafeharem

It is moderated, so let the moderator know who you are.
This has been started because of incidents such as this:

No need to panic girls, but this is why you should not always let people know too much about you sometimes.
