Need a Camp??? Wanna Volunteer???

Need a Burning Man Camp to stay at? Wanna Volunteer at the COOLEST place on the Playa???

Then come and join Camp Ice-9!!!

This Ice Seed of a camp will be open to all Ice 3, Ice 9 and Arctica volunteers. Please note!!! This camp is an Ice Seed. Meaning that it is vary small with few thrills.

Come and help this Ice Seed grow into a Glacier!!! Be one of the first to start a new Arctica tradition. Have bragging rights five years from now when you tell all the new volunteer that you remember when the camp was just two folding chair and a makeshift sign.

Remember now that that this is an Ice Seed that was formed in the last days of July. If you are not camping with anyone and enjoy good company then come to CI9! All new members of this camp will receive unlimited Playa dust!!!

LOCATION!!! LOCATION!!! LOCATION!!!

Since the official 2007 BRC maps is coming out very late this year. The prospective location of the camp will be:

9:15 and Freshwater Outer Ring

This is assuming that this area is open to unreserved camps this Burn. I will leave word of the exact location at Ice-3, Ice-9, Arctica, and Information.

IC9 will be setup at Gates Open around 2:00 in the morning and we will officially break camp on Tuesday September 4th.

Just look for a Tan Ford Ranger with a Bike Rack in back. There will be a last minute sign and maybe some traffic cones. If I have the $$$ and time I will string up some EL Wire.

Please message me to reserve your spot. Please let me know how many people are in your party. If you can, please bring EL Wire to light up your tent.

Info on Traveling in California

Info on Traveling in California

Ok Burners,

As promised I am being a serious Sidhe.

For those of you who are traveling through California I have the following link for you.

http://www.dot.ca.gov/

This is the OFFICIAL website for the California Department of Transportation a.k.a. Caltrans. On this page you can type in a highway number and it will tell you of any detours and lane closures.

This is good to know since one of our most popular highways, Hwy 1, has a big detour at the infamous Devil’s Slide near Pacifica. They are fixing Hwy 1 as we speak but I do not think they will finish in time for the Burn.

Another warning is US 101 from San Rafael to the Oregon State Line. As soon as US 101 hits a small town there will be a local cop at the town limits. If they are bored they will follow you to edge of town. This is how the towns make their money. DO NOT GO THE SPEED LIMIT BUT UNDER IT. Know what I mean.

Another area to watch out for, especially if you are driving a truck or towing trailer, is I-80 from the I-80/I-680 interchange to the City of Fairfield. Fairfield is where the CHP 9-1-1 dispatch is. Plus, there is a major truck scale there. There are tons of CHP on that strip. If you see the CHP on the side of the road and slow down and speed up when you are past him… DON’T!!! IT IS A SPEED TRAP!!! There is another roller a mile or so down the road. When you get the hills near Fairfield watch out there too!!! Cops hang out on the curves!!! The CHP on this section of highway do not necessary drive Crown-Vics or motorcycles. They have a fleet of black pickup trucks with camper shells. So watch it folks

I would also like to take the time to tell everyone to “SLOW FOR THE CONES”. When you come across a construction site PLEASE SLOW DOWN!!! Caltrans have many accidents during the holiday season in the construction zone. May of my friends are working out there. We all have families. We all want to go home. So please stay within the posted speed limit in ALL construction zones. Plus the fact that CHP might be running COZEEP and the fines are doubled!!!

Drive Safe

Cross the Sidhe

To Ease the Pain of Burners Past On...

Burner’s Psalm:

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for fellow Burners art with me; thy song and thy poi they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine fears: thou anointest my head with cold water; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and joy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in on the Playa forever.

I Woke Up:

I woke up. I find myself lying down on my back on the hot hard ground. The bright sun it beating down on my face. I can barely open my eyes. A hot wind comes by. I choke and gag. For dust is in my eyes and throat. I can barely see or breathe. I try to clear my throat and get the dust out of my eye. To no avail the wind just replenishes the dust.

From a squint I can see a shadowy figure coming towards me. As the figure comes closer to me it starts to cry out, “Are you ok?”

I yell back at the shadowy figure, “No! I can not see nor breath.”

The shadowy figure now stands before me. Cool water is dripping on my head and face. I splash the water in my eyes. I drink some of the water. I clear my throat. I can now see and breathe again.

I look up. There I see a man who is much younger then me. He is wearing shades and a dusty boonie hat that has seen many years. His khaki shirt was chock covered with dust and a cup hangs from a tan utilikilt. I thank him and he said “No problem.”

I asked him what his name was. All he said that it was not important right now. He calls me by my playa name, hand me some swimming goggles and says, “Come, follow me. It is time.”

I am thinking to myself, “How does he know my playa name?”

I followed him through the dust storm. About a half a mile walk the dust storm clears and right away I know where I am. I see a very familiar landscape. I see the Man in the distance. I was shocked! How did I end up on the Playa? I was… then I just ended up here!

I turned to the young man and grabbed him. With a puzzled stare straight in to his face. I asked him.

“How the fuck did I get here?”

He just smiled and laughed.

“It is not in my place to tell you how you got here. However, I can tell you this. This is the place where you wanted to be.”

The wind started to blow again and the dust started to pick up. The young man smiled again and walked into the blowing dust and faded away.

Wandering:

The wind started to die down again. I can see far and wide now. There I see RVs, tents, and domes scattered about. There were no street signs. No loud rave music nor center camp. Nothing like the Burning Man I had grown to know. Instead it reminds me of the tales of the early days of Burning Man. When everything had just moved from beaches of San Francisco to Black Rock Desert. There were about a hundred people that I could see. Not the masses of people I am use to.

I walked around the playa with my swimming goggles in hand. I see artwork. Some I have seen before on the playa. Others I have only seen in pictures from Burns past. I hear live music. I can see two women practicing their Poi in the distance. I can smell camp food cooking. I am hungry. I wander toward the smell. It smells good.

I find the camp where I smelled the food. At the camp was an older couple in there fifties. They both turned my way. The older woman yells my way, “Your welcome to join us”. I waked over to there camp and looked around.

There I see the older make cooking breakfast. He had an old Coleman stove with two Teflon pans on the burners. He was frying up some links and eggs. The older woman was beading. She had all of her beads laid out in trays. Many colors. Many kinds. She had plastic, ceramic, wooden and anything imaginable. I found a seat and just watch her make a necklace.

The older man yelps “Lunch’s up!” and hands me a plate. I took the food and started to eat.

I looked up at him and asked him, “Where am I?”

Both the older man and woman just smiled.

As the older man served his wife some food she said to me. “You’re dead boy.”

I replied “Dead?”

“Yup!” replied the older man. “You’re dead.”

I just dropped my plate to my lap and sank into the chair.

I am like “Holy Shit!”

“How did I die?”

“Well…” paused the older man. “It is not really my place to tell you see. If is up to you to find yourself. In time you will find out. The Burn is just a few months from now. You will find out then.”

I was totally stoked what he had told me. Then I got to thinking. If I am dead and on the Playa… So where is Heaven and Hell.

So I asked him where is Heaven and Hell.

This time the older woman answered.

“Here we call Heaven and Hell Theme Camps. You are here by your own choice. You loved the Playa and wanted to die on the Playa. You always wished to return to the Playa after you had passed away. Well you got it!”

I just looked down and gave out a big “Whaooooooooo……!!!!”

As the older woman made her necklace she continued.

“You may come and go as you please. There is no gate fee here but I cannot guarantee you can come back. Like Hell… For some people it is very hard to get out but some do. There are other Theme Camps other then Heaven and Hell of “Heavens” past like Alyssum.”

I interrupted her. “Where are all the Theme Camps I know and love?”

“Ahhhh…” said the older women. “They are not here yet. They will come. You’ll see. We are the first Burners to cross over. There are only a few of us now. In time there will be more. As they come they will bring their theme camps and art. Who knows, you will might just see some of your friends. If they choose to. If not, then just cross over to a Theme Camp and visit them. It is ok.”

I just stared into my plate. The older lady leans over and says, “Here take this. It is a gift”. She hands me the necklace she was making. It was made of small plastic beads of all colors. It had a brass charm of the Man. I thanked her and started to stair out into space.

A Few Months Later:

It has been three months now since I have died. I have gotten to know everyone on the Playa. Some people crossed over with morning from the Burner community. Others just past away anomalously. Regardless on how active they where in the Burner community they all have one thing in common. They all wished to meet again on the Playa.

I managed to setup my own camp. It is funny here. If you need supplies or something you just go to the other camps and they will just might have it. It is not like they have a grocery store or a Home Depot at their camp. They will just “have it”. Likewise, if someone comes to my camp looking for something I will just have it. I do not know how it got there or what… but I will just have it. Most people just go around asking for things. Some people still prefer trade and barter. I just give things away with a smile. I mean why not? We are all Burners here.

Everyday I ride my sparkling blue dragonfly bike to the Man. Each time I go to the Man I wonder how my friend and family are doing. Even though I am at peace here I still miss them so much.

As time passes new people show up on the Playa out of the dust. Old people. Young people. Some in groups most just arrived alone. They all come out of the dust just like I did. Each time I would meet a new arrival I would ask if they know my friends or family. Nobody knew them. I guess in time I would find out about them.

The Night of the Burn:

On the night of the Burn everyone gathered around the Man. There I just stood alone waiting for the fireworks and poi dancers to come out. Instead everyone just stood silently trance like. The wind started to pick up. Only this time the wind was blowing heavier then normal. The dust was so thick that I could not see an inch in front of me. I was like “Oh no! I will not see the Burn.”

Then the wind died down and the dust cleared.

I find myself standing alone.

On the Playa:

Not the Playa where I have been resting…

…but the Playa I have always knew.

It was alive and full of people. I can see this years Man and Temple. I see art cars and poi dancers. People are talking, laughing, in motion, and just having fun. I can see all my favorite Theme Camps. I see people in costume and lots of EL Wire. The rave music was pumping and jamming. I was home.

Out from the crowd came a very familiar face. It was the young man I met when I arrived at the Playa. She smiled at me hugged me and says, “Welcome home.” I returned his hub in kind.

Remembering the first meeting that I did not get his name. So I asked him, “What is your name?”

Once again he just smiled at me, “It is not important. But…. I have something for you to see. Come with me.”

He garbed my hand and started to walk me through the Playa. There we came to a gathering of people. They are all standing around a makeshift temple. As we walked nearer I begin to recognize familiar faces and I begin to cry.

I see all my friends. I see my parents who vowed never to come to Burning Man. Most of all I see my wife and husband. They where both there… and crying…

The young man let go of me and I ran up to the makeshift temple. To my surprise it was a temple dedicated to me. It had all of my pictures on it. It had letters and poems dedicated to me. It had stuff written by well wishers who were just passing by. My father is reading my eulogy. As it is being read my mother is just balling and my wife and husband are just embracing each other for support. There I learned on how I died and hear all the tales of my past life experiences.

As they all spoke of good memories I feel myself getting lighter. I feel at ease. It is a strange feeling. I never felt like this before. Even on ecstasy I never felt like this. It is a wonderful feeling. I can feel the burdens lifting from my soul as they remembered me in word.

The Burn:

I turned to the young man and said to him, “Is there a way I can talk to them”

“Yes”, he replied. “All you have to do is to think it and say it. They will hear it one way or another. They usually do.”

I did just that. The wind and dust kicked up a little. My words blew in the wind and dust saying that I am Ok and missed them. They all perked up with a strange look in their faces.

When the Man burned my friends and family burned the temple. They all held each other and cried. Every one of them had tears rolling down their faces. I cried to. I tried to touch them but I just went through them. Sot of expect when you are dead.

The Man finally burned down. My temple was no more. My family, friends and all the Burners on the Playa went back to their respective camps. I find myself standing alone. Just pondering and looking down. I can see dawn. It is a new day. People will start packing and go home soon. Some will return some will not.

The young man came up to me again. He said it is time to go back. I just looked at him with teary eyes. I asked him if the Man was a God or something. This is what he told me.

“The Burning Man is not a God nor a religion. The Man himself represents who we are. We are many people for all walks of life. We are artisans and poets. Dreamers and the realists. We are faeries, Goths, dragonflies, Dominas, seekers, losers, givers and takers. We are many things and the Man is all of use combined together. That is why if you ask any Burner what is Burning Man is you will always get a different answer. Burning Man is many things and never a single thing.”

He turned toward the Man and told me it was time to go. I reached for his hand and the winds and dust came back. It is time to go. Time to return to my Playa. I am not worried about my friends and family anymore. They still love me and I love them. I will see them next year. One day… if they decide to choose… I will see them on the Playa in years to come. Time to leave home for home.

This story id dedicated to all the love ones we lost and the people who remembers them. May we all meet again on the Playa.

Burning Man informal get together at Kings X (Oakland) this Saturday....maybe 9:30pm?

Hello Hot Dog Burner-types,

Some local folks from my village, Hushville (few to none of which I know - such is the nature of a 200 person village - the folks I camp with are from Seattle, Chicago, Toronto, etc.), are planning on a small get together at Kings X this Saturday. Nothing formal - just some folks sippin' some libations. By all means, in the immortal words of Monty Hall, C'mon down!

I will likley have my black top hat on. If there are multiple people at the bar with top hats, I will be the one not wearing underwear.

Kings X is at 4401 Piedmont Ave at Pleasant Valley Road.

Hope to see you there!

Hungry Burners,

I am very sorry to say that the Burning Dog is no more. The decision did not come lightly. Matter of fact is part of an aftermath of a family now broken. Due to an action by one drunken family member the whole family just fell down and collapsed. This is after of me for years working to get the family back together again.

Part of the aftermath is that I am currently living with this person. I am now moving out. All of my finances will be dedicated toward my move. I can no longer afford the Burning Dog with or without donations.

What this DRUCK did to my niece and I is unforgivable. My family has major problems and my sister, brother and I have taken a vow to make sure the shit in my family never happens to niece. I love my niece and I do protect her. I will be just as bad as the DRUCK if I let anything happen to her.

I would like to thank you all for the support you have given me. I would like the thank Hedy for the logo. For all of you who inquired about donating to the Burning Dog or planned on it I ask for one last favor.

Please, the donations you would of given to the Burning Dog… please give the donation to another Theme Camp, Local Charity, School, or someone is need you may find on the streets. The purpose of the Burning Dog was gifting. Let the spirit of the Burning Dog live within each of us. In may not be in a bun… but the spirit lives on.

In Perfect Love and Trust,

Well Hungry Burners....

I just tried my setup for boiling 7 qt of water using a Coleman propane burner. It took hour and a half to boil water with out the lid. With the lid it will take about 45 mins!!! Big Difference!!!

Thing I got to remember...

1. I will not be using a full 7 qt of water,.

2. The dogs are frozen.

3. I am almost a mile high.

We shall see!

Casual Burner gathering in Oakland this Friday night (04/07) at King's X...maybe around 9pm or so...?

Tis the season to start thinking about costumes and art cars and what new ideas we have for showering in the desert...so, c'mon out and share some merriement with some like-minded folks...

It looks like we have a couple takers from the Oakland Burners Tribe for some good Burner rambling...I have no idea what or if they renamed King's X since they got a new owner and morphed it into a island vibe joint, but, it is at...

4401 Piedmont Ave
Oakland, CA 94611
(near intersection of Pleasant Valley Ave and Piedmont Ave)

I will be the one with the thong SpongeBob panties on...err....I guess they may not be that visible - maybe I'll just wear my cowboy hat??? Or some fur....or a top hat, yeah, the top hat...maybe shout out "Marco" and I'll/ we'll shout back "Polo" - something just too darn cute like that...

Anyone going to the Flambe Lounge bowl Saturday night???

Well Hungry Burners,

Tomorrow I will be buying the internal working for the hot dog stand. Believe it or not it is the guts that will determine the size and shape of the cart. In orkder to have enough room ro buns, cold dogs and other things I must find spance for the burners and pots. The dogs will be cooked and kept warm by a propane camping burners. I need adaquite room for ventilation. So I will design this area first. To aide me in my design I will be useing a drafting program called AutoCad.

That is the update for the week!!!

I will begoing to Costco on Saturday to look for condonment, wax paper, and dogs. I will not buy any food item until close to Burning Man. I have decided to use wax paper rather then tin foil to serve the dogs. This way you can bun the paper. Tin foils will generate too much MOOP!

A totally unrelated joke! About engineers!

An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and said," If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket. The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week." The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a Princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do ANYTHING you want." Again, the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket. Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess and that I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?" The engineer said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog, now that's cool."

Hot Dog Stand: Part I
Ok Burners...

BM 2006 will be my second Burn. Last year I had a medical scare where I amost did not go in '05. As a result of the medical scare I did not really prepare the right food for the Burn. I just brought can food. after the third day I just had it with Beefaroni. Well, walking down the streets of BRC I found a camp that was giving away gyros. The guy who was doing all of this wanted to do something for his first Burn. He ran out of food but managed to find some more after hearing my story. I was happy and gave him some gogles and lots of glow sticks.

Anywho...

I have been looking to do something for BM 06. I am thinking about opening up a hot dog stand.

What do you think? Any suggestions?

As some may of heard I can not have a roving cart at BM.... or at least that what the Health Dept said. Well... I am going to have my cart anyway!!!

Here is the plan.

I am going to rig the cart as if it is a stationary stand. But!!!! In the wee hous of the night on goes the wheel!!! I shall roam and and feed hungry Burners!!! In that day my stand will be open as a stationary stand. Another thing I am planning to do is to have soft lunch cooler and go around deliverig hot dogs.

There shall be a Midnight roving hot dog stand this year!!!

The Burning Dog Part III: Broken Dream... or Dream Revised

Ok Hungry Burners,

I know you are all hungry. Well I have some new for you. The Health Dept sez I can not have my Roving Yellow Hot Dog Kart. They say if I do have one I will need a Lic and a perminate place of establishment.

FUCK!!!!

That was the who thing. going around BRC giving out hot dogs and rewarding people with ice cream!!!

I already had some concept sketches done of the cart. Worked out all the details. Got prices on the dogs, and trailers. Shit!!! I already did a lot of planning.

If teh Burning Dog is to say alive then it had to be a stationary stand. That means a crew (which I do not have or know). Means more plannings.

I will have to see.

Ride to BRC via Yosemite-Mono Lake-Sparks-Reno

Ok Burners...

I know this is earler... but if you have no ride then I am just in time!!! I have three seats open!

Last Burn I drove from Oakland, Ca to BRC via Yosemite-Mono Lake-Sparks-Reno. This was a long route but very pleasant. If you are in need of a ride and adventerious then keep me in mind. We sill share the gas.

Please Note!!! I have a Ford Ranger towing a Trailer. I can carry some of your stuff in my trailer. My ranger has two jump seat in back. They are facing each other rather then the front window. Some will find this very cramped and uncomfortable. We will be rotating seats with the front passenger. IF YOU GET CAR SICK THEN THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.

Hey!!! If you want to see Yosemite and Mono Lake... Come and join me!!!

Please keep me in mind. I will post with updates.

Hot Dog Stand: Part II
Burners....

Starting this week I will be calling the State of Nevada Health Dept on my hot dog stand. I do want to see things through. Anyone who wants to help me with it please let me know.

So far I do have a name for my stand. I will call it:

"The Burning Dog"

The sympole will be the Man holding a whinnie in the right had (not between his legs). Teh stand will be bright yellow with an umprellia to).

Menu:

Beef Franks
Veggie Dogs
Frenches Mustard (had to be)
Heintz Ketchup (the good stuff)
Sour Kraut (hey!!! I am half German!!!)
Chili.
Deli Mustard
Beaver Hot Mustard.

I am going to serve the dogs in tin foile but you must take care of your own MOOP.

No drinks.

Might use EL Wire.

Might be a Midnight Hot Dog Stand.

A LITTLE SERCRET

I will have some Special Dogs both veggie and non-veggie. This will be reserved for TRIBE BRUNERS. I will come up with a password and you willl get the high end dog!!!

Veggie Burner!!!

What is a VERY GOOD HIGH END VEGGIE DOG?
