The Az game-con is having a kick ass first year. The center is packed with people, including it's fair share of costumed lunatics. In fact, someone just passed me dressed as Devil May Cry's Dante. The Katamari simulator turned out to be more than a rumor, but less than a success; everything that sticks to it falls off rather quickly, which is really to be expected, and of course you can't actually layer junk on top of each other on any form of real life giant adhesive ball... it just doesn't work. I mean, I suppose they could have used a magnetic ball and only metallic objects, but that probably would have been a lot more expensive than they were willing to pay for.
Anyway, the free crap at the booths is cheap but amusing as usual, there's some great stuff on sale, and the lines to play the new demos and betas aren't as bad as you'd expect from most game-cons.
It turns out they also had some tournaments arranged, including Halo (which I'll be perfectly honest... isn't my thing. Battlefield is better.) Super Smash Brothers Brawl, which is great, and a preview of the upcoming Soul Caliber 4. There may have been more, but I only have so much time today.
Anyway, there are some tech demos, none of which are new but that's to be expected. They're all recycled from E3 or PAX, some have even been up on IGN for some time. My point is none of it is new, and it's rather disappointing.
Either way the gaming community is always fun, there's no shortage of people at consoles and PCs shouting "pwnd!" or "boom! headshot!" not to mention countless other common jokes and phrases that will either annoy you or make you laugh (usually depending on who's said it). Some trailers don't get old 'til long after the game's release, and who doesn't love getting in on a game beta? All in all, its been a good time here at the Az game-con, and I'll be happy to attend its second annual incarnation.
If you can't make it to this one, come next year. These things tend to do nothing but get bigger and better, I mean... look at PAX.

My favorite site for movie information is one that everyone pretty much knows about, and for good reason. IMDB.com is a great source for information on all things movie. If you somehow didn't know about it, then go check it out; it'll have pretty much anything you could want on the subject of movies, including info on upcoming features, like the Metal Gear Solid movie, which is supposedly finally in the works.

Another great site is GameFAQs.com. This site can be a gamers best friend. Just look up a game, and it will give you pages on reviews, FAQs (which are guides similar, or often superior to the kind you can waste your money on in the local game shop) as well as a page full of cheats for those who don't want to play through a game the normal way, and message boards for those who like to talk about their games (though you could just do that here....).

If you're interested in either topic, then go check out the site. Now.

The first section of my "mission statement" was in the tribe description, which seemed quite natural to me, but it seems not everyone caught on.... so I'm going to continue it here.
Since I'm sure plenty of you only got the title because of previous posts, I'm going to explain it. In the PC game, Portal, you are a test subject. The tests are the levels; you are meant to get through each one by strategically placing portals which lead to one another, and taking advantage of what the portals can do with physics. The initial reward you are offered for completing these tests is cake, however throughout the game you can see many places where previous test subjects have written on the walls "the cake is a lie." This has become a bit of a meme for those that follow interweb culture. For those that have not played Portal, its a great game, but that isn't the sole reason for my tribe's name. It has equally as much to do with the common use of the phrase, which any anon would be familiar with. It is commonly used on video game boards, as well as many others. Since video games, and internet culture references are two things that will likely have a lot to do with the future of this blog, I figured I would title it appropriately.
Anyway, as anyone who read Jessica's post on my page will have gathered, I have recently begun to play World of Warcraft, which I have so far enjoyed quite a bit. This however does not eat up all of my time. I also watch a good deal of movies, spend time with friends, party, and do other such things. WoW only eats your life if you let it, but it does certainly have that potential.
I also play other video games, some of my favorites being the Battlefield franchise, as well as such things as Black & White, Resident Evil, etc. If it involves a game or a movie, I'll do my best to respond in an appropriate manner. Meaning if you bring up a deserving movie or game there could be some good conversation, hopefully involving a fair amount of posters. More people often make better conversations. On the other hand, if you bring a crap movie/game into the conversation, I will respond with the appropriate.... criticisms.
