Ok, we are now faced with a big question.. when should we have LIB next year. We have 2 options.
May 9th, 10th and 11th 2008 (Same weekend as this year)
or
May 23rd, 24th, 25th 26th (Memorial Day Weekend)
We realize many people have other plans for Memorial Day weekend and we don't want to throw LIB on that date if there are too many conflictions. But we also realize how amazing it would be for everyone to not have to go to work on the Monday after LIB.
So what do you guys think, we're all ears!!

Many people go camping on that weekend (like me) anyway, so why not combine the two?

Personally, traveling to other places on Memorial Day is a pain. Last year, there was traffic in Sedona.
LIB would be perfect and besides, mortals like me, can play until Sunday late. -

I guess you would have to work it out with the performers that might have long standing Memorial Day gigs (or might also want the weekend off) first, though. -

For real though, maybe more people will carpool... and the effort of getting there / leaving is totally worth the longer time being there once you're there and settled in.

I read everyone's replies...set a date, we'll come. The Do Lab does it good. Mysefl, I vote for the Memorial Day, it would be quite fun. This year the weather was simply purrrr-fecto...not too hot and not too cold. Only bummer was the music shutting off at midnight, however, everything else was so well planned, executed (and it was good to get wome some sleep...sleep....restfull sleeeeeeeeep hee hee).

Mon, May 28, 2007 - 5:34 PMI haven't spoken yet cause it seemed absurd to go against the grain, when SO MANY were agreeing, but I must point out...
at least Austin, TX's Burning Man Regional, Burning Flipside, and potentially other burning regionals are already held on this weekend annually. I know that there was a good crew from Austin at LIB this year who will have a VERY tough decission on their hands if we schedule LIB08 on memorial day weekend.
Memorial Day weekend is also a very important weekend for many families, who have gathering and family reunions on this weekend. I personally have a conflict with memorial day weekend next year cause of long standing family plans and I'm sure that there are at least a few other people in this possition.
We could still do a three day festival on another weekend, people might just have to get off work on thursday to attend the whole fest. If they can't than they can still enjoy saturday and sunday! -

After missing LIB this year, and attending Flipside, Austin's Burning Man regional, of which over 2000 people attended, I had hoped to catch *both* next year...there is a large community of participants that attended LIB that then came to Flipside...it would be a very tough decision for many next year if the two were held on the same weekend.

Thu, July 19, 2007 - 2:42 PMI know from the posts that response is heavily weighted toward memorial day, and perhaps you want to keep the festival more local to LA.... but a number of the peeps who came down from San Francisco have local plans (we have a burn up in Marin - Fire Mountain) and many go to Austin for the regional burn Flipside... as mentioned by someone else, you had a couple dozen people who came from Austin to attend that probably won't come if you move it to Memorial Day. As the largest regional burn in the country, Flipside is pretty freaking awesome. It totally sucks if 2 incredibly terrific events wind up on the same weekend. Just some non-local input :) -

Thu, July 19, 2007 - 7:16 PMSome of us wouldn't go to Texas if you paid us, no matter how progressive the city in Texas is, so I'd wager a fair larger amount of us won't be at Flipside.
It always sucks to have the best parties on the same weekends, but that's why they are on the longest weekends: they are the best parties. There are always a finite amount of weekends, long or otherwise. Some overlap is one of the hard, cold realities of our lives, but as hard, cold realities go, not so hard and not so cold.

Fri, January 18, 2008 - 11:25 PMYeah..I had hoped to get to LIB this year and am bummed it's been moved to Mem. Day wkend. I attend Flipside every year but I will have to weigh out my decision in 2009. And for those of you who have never been to the Hill Country outside Austin Texas it's pretty damn awesome. Spring fed swimming holes at 65 degree temps, 200 acres of beautiful cliffs rustic country with no one to fuck with us all damn weekend..some beautiful camps last year too and a kick ass effigy. -
