Come help us entertain at Home! Home Camp will be our Burning Man installation this year - it is a 3000 sq. foot, pre-turn of the century Victorian period v. Steampunk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk) themed chill space on the esplanade. We are turning this large tented space into a dream Victorian home for lush lounging, chilling, entertaining and more.

Whimsy. Flights of fancy. Slights of hand. Lace and laughter. Bears on bikes. Contortionists. Juggling unicyclers. Spontaneous performance artists, mimes, gymnasts and illusionists - we need your skills. We need your help. We are looking for creative performers of all kinds to provide escapes from the norm, however large or small.

This will be an incredibly cool plush chill space for non-primetime performance and art. If what you do is fun to watch, interact with, listen to, or if it teases up the audiences sensibilities, we want to hear from you.

Basura Sagrada art show / fundraiser - Aug 2nd - seeks food / bev donations, connections

Hello Temple lovers,

So we have an official LA fundraiser happening Saturday, Aug 2nd, with all proceeds going to this year's temple, Basura Sagrada, a beautiful temple made from trash!

We have lined up quite a lot of wonderful talent, but this will be a chill, lower profile event, more along the lines of a an art opening & silent auction, to beheld Aug 2nd, at the FireHouse (on Santa Fe St., downtown), 7pm - 12 midnight. (NOT a dance party.) Suggested sliding donation of $25 +. We have also scheduled some great entertainment, including a fashion show, and wandering dance vignettes - we just got the flier back from the printer's, so look for that shortly!

One of our more challenging tasks has been to gather donated food and beverages for the event, both to provide for the guests, and to auction (gift baskets.)

Do you have any connections in this area? We really need help in this area! Also, as part of a 501(c)3 organization, any items donated to the event are tax deductible, and we can provide donors with the proper receipt for the IRS.

We would be very grateful for any help or suggestions in this area! Please EMAIL me directly, since Tribe is still somewhat unreliable right now: highamplitude(at)gmail(dot)com.

Love you all, and see you there!
xo

Here is the Sponsor Letter that you can send out to friends and family to request donations for the Make a Wish foundation…

REQUEST FOR SPONSORSHIP
On Sunday January 20, I am participating in a dance-a-thon called Wishing Well @ Woodley Park to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Our goal is to raise $10,000 for this worthwhile charity that has helped so many children. Please visit wishingwellwoodleypark.blogspot.com/ for full details on this event.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has given hope, strength and joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions. From humble beginnings with one boy’s wish to be a police officer, Make-A-Wish Foundation has evolved into an organization that grants a child’s wish in the U.S. every 41 minutes. Visit their website http://www.wish.org for more info.

I know we all have good hearts and that we believe in helping worthwhile causes and that is why I am asking you to sponsor me for this event. Sponsors make a donation by check or online and I am committed to dance for the number of hours you choose. For example, if you sponsor me to dance for four hours at $5 per hour, that would be a $20 donation to Make-A-Wish. I will then dance for four straight hours to fulfill my commitment to you.

You can also make a flat sponsorship. All sponsor contributions should be made as a check or money order made directly to the “Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Los Angeles”. or via pay pal at http://wishingwell2.blogspot.com

I went to Lightning In a Bottle again a couple of weeks ago...i went with low expectations...because my experience there the last year was so intense and powerful i couldn't possibly hope for that to happen twice...it didn't.it was just....different.It's been a long and amazing year for me here in San Francisco.I felt led here by hopes and hints of a movement...a transformation...some sort of authentic revolution...and a certain amount of characteristic idealistic naivite and idealism that i have always seemed to harbor within since i was a child...idealism and naivite i see reflected in the community around me...from the aging hippies to the younger scenesters, artists and performers that populate my landscape.

over the year i have heard many rumours of revolutions and movements...i just read a burning man post(not sure if it was Larry harvey or some other member of the burning man hierarchy) about how we need to have a day dedicated to refraining from sex in order to move towards curbing population...just like having the oil free day...and the smoke free day...if we can all just get together and do these certain things...commit to these certain agendas...somehow things are going to get better...we will bring about world peace...somehow we will arrive...

...and something has happened inside of me in the course of my time spent here with all of you amazing idealists...artists...and deeply flawed and beautiful human beings...my experience last year at Lightning In A Bottle...which i think is a significant one to me...because as a kid i played in the forest alone...it was one of my most powerful and formative childhood experiences...because i learned how to be alone...but my heart ached with loneliness because it was so painfully beautiful and perfect there....so being in the forest with so many others...so many seeking hearts...is a powerful and meaningful thing for me i think....anyways...my experience last year was partly informed by a night in the treehouse...which was actually inside a dome that year...and following an intense set by Bassnectar...everyone sat down and watched Lucent Dossier give an absolutely amazing performance...one of the most most beautiful and perfect things i have yet seen.i have not seen them do anything since that comes close to touching that moment that night....i learned later that it was mostly improvised...and i realized at that moment that magic can be born out of exploring moments within moments...all of the possibilities that exist right there within...the deeper you go...the more there is to discover...

i wandered up to the boheman carnival camp and discovered a world of characters and performers crawling out of their tents...each creating and discovering little moments within time...one of them crawled out of her tent and it immediately became clear that she was a force...the queen of this thing i was in the process of discovering...i watched her scream at the top of her lungs...and then giggle mischeviously at what she had just done....i watched for hours as little explosions of energy from within erupted into the reality around me....it was then...definitely then that i was beginning to realize that the revolution...the only real revolution that can only create any real transformation or change was this...

the folly of the sixties and the "hippies" and of the fundamentalist christians...and of the muslims and mormons...and liberals...the conservatives...legalizers of pot...of the corporate capitalists...the gays and the socialists...the feminists...of hitler and stalin...clinton's and bush's...of all of us...and of myself...is that somehow we all have to all think the same way...do the same things...that there is a single destination for all of us whether it be world peace...or global domination....that somehow we have to create perfection...a perfect world...that there is always more to do....that we have to build a revolution of some sort....

the revolution is here...it has always been here...it is within...it is within each passing moment...and it has always been there each and every moment....waiting for each of us to find it within...within ourselves within each other....every moment is a miracle...and it never needed us to fix it and to make it somehow better...the world doesn't need us to fix it...it is us who needs to let go of our delusions...our arrogance...to negate our ridiculous egoes and to simply be here in this moment and to let it fill us with awe at all that it holds for us...

when i wrote about my experiences at LIB last year i wrote of acknowledging the belief that we are all gods and goddesses...a surprisingly polythesistic stance for me to take...but in the course of this year i have come to realize even more than that.i have come to realize that there is apoint within each of us that is a divine point of connection with everything that has been...that is...and that can be...and in that sense we are all truly gods and goddesses alike...we are all vessels of the divine...but that there is only one truth...one God...and that is the paradox...everything is paradox...our unique and limited perspectives do not make this any less true and i am humbled by the limitations of what i know and my experience...and i am grateful for it as well as it instills a proper sense of mystery and emotion...of astonishment at all that exists both within and around me.

I love the polarities of the LA scene and the San Francisco scene that collide at LIB...and the amazing energy that comes from their collision...mischevious clowns and circus freaks...bohemian kings and queens of the absurd, of chaos and the power of the heart ...as i watched the quieter less visually spectacle oriented performance of Lucent Dossier...i had been wondering somewhat from the night before with their mastery of the visual spactacle...and their profoundly aesthetic presence that seems to dominate their following...were we expected to worship their beauty...each character torn from the pages of a magazine...so flawless...so perfect...so much beauty...and so many insecurities flourish from that LA scene...so many visual spectacles and illusions...and then in swept the clowns in the back of the treehouse...those mischevious fuckers...making lotsof racket...tossing oompa loompas around and turning attention away from the beautiful...causing commotion and lotsof fingers to lips and shhhhhshhh's....so many battling insecurities...seeking acceptance...and open hearts...and who doesn't want to be healthy and beautiful?to wear beautiful clothes...but is the revolution about what kind of food we eat...having a beautiful and healthy body and clothes from Lord of the Rings? The clowns ask us to step back and laugh at ourselves...to embrace our own absurdities...the clowns are chaos and i fucking love the clowns for that...

and after the interruption (mostly imagined on my part) drifted away...i moved to the front to hear this quiet performance that was being given...and i felt as if i was watching real people...flawed...beautifully imperfect...stumbling their way through an awkward performance...one that so many dismissed as terrible or boring but which i loved for it's humanity...it's many flaws and imperfections...it's stark contrast to the previous night...and i admired the remarkable journey that this group ...this family of performers is on...and was grateful to them for bringing so many of us with them....

I have a beautiful friend who introduced me to so many of the friends i have made now from last years event...she has struggled with the tyranny of the visual for so long now...rarely going out and looking like herself in times past...rocking the entire event with little or no flourishes to her appearance...and more beautiful than ever....what a remarkable transformation and revolution she is going through...truly becoming a badass with each passing day... beauty flowing from the heart and not her flesh or her costumes...a true revolutionary of the heart she made my soul smile...

And my wonderful companion and oracle...one of the most powerful people i have ever met...clown and jester...unafraid to be ugly and immeasurably beautiful spent the entire weekend creating worlds within worlds with me....together we have braved sandstorms on chariots...explored an endless tree for an entire day and performed onstage with the amazing Yard dogs(of course no one saw us because we were offstage in our tent but if you people had seen our performance we'd av floored ya)....whenever i spend time with her i feel truly blessed...

I could write book about the endlessly amazing people and interactions i had during that weekend...my amazing friends from Dustfish who transcend all with so much heart and ferocious love no one could feel out of place or unwanted in their presence....a truly organicically grown community of friends and true family that grows each day that someone new steps into their presence...

...my best friend from denver who bought a ticket the day before the event and hitch hiked up there the day of the event just to come hang out...as much a brother to me as my flesh and blood...

my friend who gave me his ticket...because his mother had passed away and he didn't think he could come...but then came late anyways because he needed to celebrate his own life she had helped give to him...to transform grief and sadness into gratefulness and joy...

my amazing and talented friend who danced and hooped for me...the beautiful circle that connects all of these things and every one of us...every heart...and every thing so perfectly....

i do not seek to unite the world as one...with wires...with philosophies...with technology...with economic systems...with art...with words...it already IS one and always has been...the world does not need to be "greened"...it is green already...trying to build new politics and methods to somehow save the world is a veiled attempt at keeping the things i refuse to let go of...i love my truck...i love the city and movies and grocery stores...i love clubs and pavement...i love drugs and alcohol and smoking and all of my vices....

today a child experienced something so powerful and so beautiful that it justified all of the evils and injustices and imperfections we have endured...to simply produce that one moment....today was infinite in it's scope...it's power...it's beauty...if our world ended right now...it was all worth it...

in this past year there have been so many moments where i have thought i am the luckiest human being in the history of human beings to be here now alive in this moment....i was blown away at how lucky i am...moments of the purest beauty and perfection....of sheer contentment and gratefulness that i am alive and in this place with this person or people...or alone with the universe....or alone with God...i am not trying to change anyone or anything...i am just humbled and awed and grateful to be here...the power of the universe is within and the deeper you go inside...the deeper you go into the woods...the deeper you explore each other and each moment...the more you begin to realize how little you really know...how magical and mysterious the world really is...and the limitless possibilities that await us.that is my revolution.

Parking Lot Safety/Security: Someone broke my windshield:-P

I know this probably happens from time to time at festivals, but when I got back to my car after a great weekend of funhaving, my front windshield had a big crack, costing me $225 to replace:-P

I know it's not LIB's "fault", but it feels kinda shitty since the guy at the gate spent a good while convincing me I didn't want to buy a car pass and bring my vehicle in (I know it coulda happened inside the festival too). We sort of put our trust in the people running the festival to watch the parking lot and make sure people aren't throwing rocks at windshields while we party. Even right when I got back to my car, I could tell there wasn't good enough parking lot security by the insane amount of flyerbombing that had occured. Seems like if they are trying to have a "green" festival, they would try to keep litter like that to a minimum.

Just me bitchin' and moanin'.

Any thoughts or comments on what if anything LIB can do to prevent things like this from happening in the future?

Wizard Wonka Brent, chief power monkey for Do Lab/LIB, just got out of surgery for an emergency appendectomy. He should be doing fine and coming home tomorrow.

During LIB I watched Brent and a few dozen other staff/volunteers work incredibly hard to pull together a great event for all of us. Brent ran around all day and night making sure all stages, domes and booths had light, sound and power throughout the event....he rarely rested! Late in the woods one long delirious night WizBrent had a vision for LIB 2009, an installation that he wants to build for our next celebration together. He wants to bring the lightning back into the bottle and wants all of your help to make it happen!

If you know of artists who like to work with Tesla Coils, put us in touch here. Our studio is based in Los Angeles. A small art/construction team will be recruited after this summer; builders and other interested friends are welcome to send a message to the Wizard Wonka Brent here on tribe, or post a message here and I'll be sure to send the patient to this site when he wakes up out of anesthesia.

Thanks for the energy, the healing wellwishes and lots of good juice!

Our wonderfully crazy friends can no longer go to the Thievery Corp / Seu Jorge concert tomorrow night so we have two extra tickets (link below). In the spirit of giving we are willing to donate them to two fun / chill people in the area (preferably Westsiders like ourselves - we live in Venice) that would like to join us in the festivities. We are both adventuresome and eclectic professionals. Drop me a line if you interested. Any humorous and personally informative responses would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great weekend.

LA fundraiser for Shrine's Basura Sagrada - we need you!

As you may or may not know, Shrine is the artist behind that wonderful trash temple near this year's treehouse stage, as well as much of the stage's decor ... and he is also designing this year's temple at Burning Man, called the Basura Sagrada.

www.basurasagrada.org

Construction is happening mostly in SF, but a bunch of us in LA are pulling together a fundraiser in LA - because besides the trash, they need cash!

If you would like to help out with the LA fundraiser in any way (volunteering, lending art, music, time, ideas, connections, space...) please contact Marsi or me. We are having our first organizational meeting tomorrow (4pm - my place), but you are welcome to join and help out anytime. We are hoping to pull this off by sometime in late July.

And it's tax-deductible, in case you are inspired to help us beg for space, sponsorship, and so on.

My email is highamplitude(at)gmail.com

Looking forward!!

Every year at LIB I stumble on to a new band that blows me away.
Last year it was Gamalan X.
( Missed you guys this year! Hope you were rockin the world somewhere.)

As I was just about to tuck my video camera away by the Bamboo Stage, I was drawn in by your (Kan 'Nal) music.
I decided to shoot just one more cute hope girl. As I panned off of her to the band, I realized how much I liked your sound. I moved in front and center and shot most of the rest of your show. I didn't see any other V cameras going so I thought you might want some of the footage.
By any chance did you or someone record sound on your show ???????
And could we get a copy if you did so we can edit to it ????????
Usually my audio levels are shit ! But if you recorded sound then, we will put something together and send you copies of the good stuff !!!!!!
Not every moment of mine is golden but I feel I got some great coverage on all the band members, the dancers, the moment with your artist, and i love to shoot the crowd going nutz ! I think you will like it at least as documentation.

We( Me and My husband Terry) were actually documenting Do Lab with a Pan DVX 100A camera and it puts out a nice rez. We will be putting out short mini videos of Do Lab highlights and it would be great to include good audio of your set, too !!!!!!!
So, Kan' Nal if your out there, contact me!!!!

Is there any way to get/buy a copy of that set?! It was seriously amazingly intensely everything!

Late-late night sets by woogie stage...WHO?

I was wondering who was throwing down the beats from 1-5am in a camp by the woogie stage on Saturday?

Throughout the weekend the music (that i saw) was created live with drum machines, synths, samplers, etc.

anyone?

MY poor little 20ft winnebago and i had to go our separate ways so she could get a little mechanical love. She's as healthy as a horse now and needs to be picked up in santa monica. This would be an awesome opportunity for a road trip up to Oregon for a group of people. IT gets 18- 20 mpg and is a small 20ft sexy little ride. It's easy and fun to drive you need to know how to drive a stick though. I live in ashland but could meet you in the mount shasta area eugene or portland. IT needs to be picked up ASAp so whenever you wanan leave you set the date.
call me at 541 292 2107 for more details.

Anyone in Playa del rey/venice area?

So I'm moving into my dream place near the beach . I think I am very close to venice. I need some new beach places to visit. Any chill kind of hipster bar that I should do go? A place that plays Devo, Madonna and James Brown would be great.( talking heads would be a dream)
Any cool little ( IE cheap ) cute dress/shoe places I should get out? Isn't Zanzibar right there in Venice.
Where can I get a cheap iced coffee and read the Onion? I don't mean to sound cheap but I live in Silverlake and the playa looks expensive.
I'm also looking for intelligent , interesting men near 30 years old ( but with their shit together ) where are they near the playa?

Tell me everything you wish you knew when you moved to Venice/Marina del rey/Playa del Rey. I'm also having a home warming party in july sometime, if you are cool and want to help decorate or just hang out please e-mail me. I'm looking for some fabulous women friends too

I'm coming to LA (Irwindale, specifically) for a Green Building training and certification. ---> www.builditgreen.org/cgbp

.... I'm super excited to be invited to that, but am temporarily very, very low on cash. I have a HUGE payday at the end of this month... just not soon enough.

I leave Sunday, the conference ends Friday. After that I am going to see the BodyWorlds exhibit in Santa Monica and hang out in Venice for a day before going home.

I'm 420 friendly, highly educated, world traveler, super respectful house guest and a great cook.

Any suggestions? I really don't know anyone in LA.....

Except maybe Chris and Salad Bar... but I don't know exactly where they live or if it's possible.....

I'm looking for the boy by the stage at the bassnectar show who kept asking me to put my stuff down to be more comfortable to dance:)

Hello,
I am looking for the beautiful spirit who I was standing next to in the crowd at the bassnectar show. You were a boy with sparkling eyes who kept suggesting I put my my bag and coat down to be free to dance. You introduced yourself and although I can be very bad at remembering names, I believe your name had something to do with a star in the sky. We were standing by eachother for a long time, on the right side of the stage at the very front, then you finally helped me put my stuff behind the stage, and you were right, I felt much much lighter after that:) Eventually you helped me up on the stage to dance. I thought you had very beautiful energy, and there was something about you that stuck in my mind even after our brief encounter. I have no idea how to find you, but a friend suggested I try on here. If by some magical chance you find this message. . . My name is April, and I would love to know you more. Your name perhaps, for starters:) Sending this out with light and love.

howdy how lovely creatures.

thanks do lab for a great event!

i am sending out an s.o.s! i am on the hunt for the alpha’s jacket. the jacket is a part of my wandering marionette costume and it is a pretty special piece of my character. we miss it so and can’t wait to have it returned!

i lost it this past weekend at Lightning in a Bottle on my way back to camp sunday night after the final Cirque Berzerk set at the bamboo stage.

it was dropped somewhere between the lockers (on the west side of the lockers if your back was to the outdoor bazaar) near some bathrooms and the road that continues to the woogie stage from that location.

in my gallery you will find a compilation picture of two different shots of my costume. to point out a few major attributes, the jacket is a small boys black coat tail jacket with out the sleeves. it has a beautiful collar of black feathers, a white splattered hand print on the right coat tail, a large asian coin tied on with leather resting between the shoulder blades, and a strip of blackish green fur beneath the coin.

if you know of the coats whereabouts or have any information please contact me at bells.theklown@gmail.com.

thanks a bunch and BIG LOVE

Car Vandalism = Conceptual Art?

Vandalism happens. At LIB. So, I am posting this really to draw a discussion and awareness more than gripe about what happened to my car. Someone, I really can't imagine it being anyone too tied in with LIB or our extended tribe, decided that it was 1991 and the Beasty Boys were now all the rage and cut out my VW emblem from my Jetta (yes, which I carpooled with two other people and, yes, it runs of biodiesel).

I admit, at first, I was still so high from the festivities on Monday that I laughed and thought "oh well, better here than in the city" and "I hope whoever ripped it off is putting it to good use in some conceptual art project". It's like having my car vandalized at LIB isn't so much of a rape as if it were in LA or the Western Addition or the Mission, or anywhere else for that matter. Now, I can't even fathom how much it will be to replace this emblem, I might not even deal with it, at least not anytime soon, as it isn't integral to the car's operation. Probably more than $100, I can only surmise. That's not really the point, though. What is the point is that there are some among us, like hangers-on to a rock star entourage, that out of frustration or immaturity, or just being completely fucked-in-the-head pull stunts like this. These are the people that make me angry and protective of my tribe and not afraid to confront with a little testosterone. We are such an open and sharing community, that when someone abuses that, it makes me want to abuse them. Physically.

I suppose I see in my mind a tweaked-out kid, probably male, probably not from the West Coast, who got here without really knowing what LIB was about, heard it was a big party, man! Maybe he didn't even get into the show because no one would sport him his "miracle ticket", kinda lost like so many of that generation, floating from one scene to the next, kind of sucking and taking whatever they can from whomever is just generous enough to allow this punk's bullshit to invade one's unsuspecting life. I automatically surmise this individual to be probably nice most of the time, or able to put that kind of face on; get him a little fucked up and he turns into the twerp that thinks anything is in bounds. Part of me would love to confront this chump and teach him a lesson, I'll admit. Part of me sees the value of mandatory national service, like in Israel or a host of other countries, for those of the 18-24 range. I suppose it is a big assumption that someone older than that usually has more sense of responsibility. Part of me does have compassion, and I suppose that it is a valuable lesson on material attachment, as has been a general theme at all these gatherings from the Burn to LIB. Hell, half my wardrobe is from The Hookahdome's lost-and-found. (Are you missing a black Carhart jacket from 2004?)

What do we do? Can we do anything about this? Could we be preventative and raise our awareness as a community? If we see the warning signs in someone, maybe a friend of a friend of a friend that we don't really know and no one else in your circle knows and their energy is at times a little suspect... he's fucking your friend and she's loving that too much to realize, and the next thing you know, he rips you off, takes your money, your valuables, whatever, then, he's gone, because no one in this circle is going to tolerate him, but it's too late...maybe some encounter session or intervention... ? check in with your peeps about people who you have little premonitions about and whom you maybe want to keep at arm's length (or boot's length); I saw that coming before and didn't speak up until it was too late. Your friends will love you for speaking up! True friends do that for each other!!

This is really not about my little VW emblem or feeling like my Greta-Liesl ze Jetta Diesel was raped with a knife, masticated like a helpless young fawn in some wayward dark kingdom... it's that this shit happens, even at LIB, which we would all love to assume is immune to such nefariousness. I am less affected by this personally than by a sense of concern for all of us; the energetics of this are more important to me than the material. I know it is impossible to prevent all things untoward from happening at LIB or Raindance or Priceless or Earthdance or even the big bad Burn, yet... we do come awfully close for such a crazy crew.

How do I get the LIB water bottle I paid for?

Hey.

Just wondering if anyone knows who I can contact about the LIB water bottle I paid for? I paid for a three-day pass, then was unable to go thanks to effing grad school (which I am beginning to resent, because this is not the first monkey wrench it has thrown into my social life.)

But <it's all for a good cause, it's all for a good cause>

Anyway. I spent $170 and would sure like to have SOMETHING to show for it. Seems petty, but I don't care. Yes, I contacted info@thedolab.com on that Saturday or Sunday, but haven't gotten a response, I presume because either they have been inundated with e-mails or they answered me and it went into my spam folder, which I never check. It can't possibly have gone unanswered.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Kaiya

The situation with those poor squirrelzies got pretty sad by the end of the event. I used up all of my leftover food that I thought the babies might be able to eat by scattering it about, but maybe next year there could be some sort of "squirrel patrol" that could parade through the campsite scattering nuts or something?
I love this event, but seeing dead baby animals sure made it hard to fully appreciate the beauty of it on Monday morning.

Thanks from Mikey’s Hug Deli at LIB 08

First off, I would like to extend a big thank you to Mike at the Interactive Art Village for sending power to keep the Hug Deli lit up at night. Your patience in handling the behind-the-scenes technical difficulties is greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all who worked behind the counter and participating customers. Especially my very young crew. Impressive kids. One girl told me earnestly that a lady apparently left without paying the second compliment for her hug. But she said, don’t worry Mikey, I ran her down, caught her and made her pay the compliment.

No ‘dine & dash’ on these kids!

And thanks to Jesse, Marsi and all of the Do Lab crew plus the volunteers for all of their hard work to create such a magical event.

Peace.

Mikey

WTF??!!!!
Have they been keeping this guy locked in the basement to receive continuous downloads of mind altering frequencies??
This is the first I have known of Edit's little brother, Jason Chung and he is refreshingly innovative.
Placed in between the head reps of 'crUnkS aNonyMous' on the tree house stage comes this completely
unique sound from a kid throwin a style at us that's an unimaginable combination of frequencies
twisted together and made all his own with a hands on live performance aspect thrown on
top to give it that up close and personal feel.

This was truly a high light of the event for me.

So I just came across this blog from these guys who are publishing a book through a friend of mine. Their whole thing is to teach people how to grow their own food and live green in the heart of the city. And they do it right here in the middle of LA, too! So yeah, here's their blog:

http://www.homegrownevolution.com/

They were just written up in the LA times last Tuesday as well, too, along with some other "guerrilla gardeners":

My red jansport backpack grew legs during bassnectar!

I am hoping that maybe my backpack that was taken out of my campsite will somehow make its way back to me. I was at my campsite during Bassnectar putting my son to bed and left my backpack in the chair just outside of my tent. When I came out my backpack was gone. Inside the backpack were my keys, my camera, the case and charger to my portable dvd player and four dvds, (The Princess Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean II and III, and Alvin and the Chipmunks), my son's brand new necklace that we got at LIB, twenty five dollars and some snacks. If there is any possiblity of returning my things to me I would be so grateful!

Hello Lovelies...
Thank you for bringing your magic out to LIB...it was an extraordinary experience, no? I am the workshop coordinator for LIB and I would love to have feedback on the workshop offering this year. If you attended any of the speaker panels or workshops, I am interested in hearing the following:

•What was your favorite workshop?
•Is there anything you would like to see done differently about the workshops?
•Would you like anything else offered that was not offered this year?
•Do you have any other feedback on the workshops?

Thank you for any comments you have that will help me create the experience again next year.
Love,
Marsi

We here at pocket underground want to extend a HUGE thank you for not only letting us play our little hearts out, but for joining us. I can't even begin to tell you how many people said that they were sleeping, heard the music and came to help us dance the morning in.

And to the one guy (I'm SO sorry I forgot you're name) thanks for being a sport about it! And thanks for that extra half an hour!!!

Please tell me some of those epic sets were recorded in good quality.

Will there ever be LIB Mix sets?... i mean... its tough to capture the energy of the actual crowd at one of these events... be we all know the DJ's feed off the energy, thereby leading to some ridiculous sets that i know i for one would LOVE to relive over and over again.

(Adam Freeland, im lookin at you!!!)

Even More LIB Photos!!

Do Lab did it again. This time even bigger, better, greener and wetter.
What a great Memorial Day weekend. Even with the rain, the attendance swelled from last year.
I shot a great deal of photos. I guess I had an itch that I needed to scratch.
The albums that will be included in this collection will be:
Day Fun
Night Fun
Helios Jive
Oso
Cirque Bizerk
Lucent Dossier
Stilt Circus
Setup (Main Stage)
David Starfire
plus some odds and ends....

Over the next few days these albums will become available. These albums will be bigger then usual to accommodate all the crazy angles, people, and performers. Please feel free to download the large images for your own use, all I ask for is proper credit.
Thanks Do Lab,
Terry

LOST: Top of an LIB Klean Kanteen (on caribiner)

We lost just the top to our super spiffy, non-toxic, LIB Klean Kanteen. It won't be nearly as useful without the top. Anyone find an extra? It was attached to a caribiner and was lost during the Lucent show at the Treehouse Stage on...what night was that? Sunday? The night of One-Eyed Wanda...

Thanks!

Hiya-

I lost one of those traditional Arab scarves that everyone seemed to be wearing. It is a beige/neutral base with a peach/pinkish pattern.

I also lost a green, smooshy, woven hat with a skull and crossbones and one green fingerless glove.

Clearly I was having too much fun to keep track of my shit!

Anyone?

Ridiculous rockin beats, especially, I think it was the guy in a black baseball cap, white shirt... I woke up out of a dead sleep to get up and dance, had to, it was awesome!

hey y'all,
my lovely lady misplaced her costume jacket on Sunday night, somewhere between the bamboo stage and the woogie stage. aside from being part of her performance gear, it's a very special and sentimental piece o' costumery and she would LOVE to get it back.

it's a black, short, tuxedo-style jacked with black feathers around the collar and various ornaments and detailed pieces.

please respond to this post or pm me.

many thanks and lots o' love.

WOW!
Another amazing year at LIB. Everytime I leave Live Oak Ranch, I feel an enormous sense of community and gratitude.
The world is pretty hardcore these days and there's all kinds of craziness. The Do Lab provides me with a MONDO injection of inspiration which helps me to combat all those free radicals!
Fricking hats off to you and the incredible work you do, the knowledge that you spread and the love that you share!
You've raised my levels of appreciation, concsciouness and my vibrational activity!

That's right folks. I'm bringing The BBC radio transmitter. Not sure what frequency we'll be broadcasting on yet. Look for signs as you come in. And bring a portable radio with you as your car will be parked too far away.

So the sounds of Woogie Radio will be heard all over the place. Please be aware of your surroundings and don't just blast it too loud.

Thank you to whoever returned my camelbak to the Lost&Found...

Saturday night...while in a haze...i lost my camelbak. The next day, after frantically looking for it for a few hours....someone suggested I try the lost and found. I was **highly** doubtful that it would end up there, since it had my money, my *goodies*, a bracelet my best friend gave me, and most important, my camera with pictures of all my friends from the weekend.

I show up there and ask if they have a camelbak in Lost&Found...and they hold it up. There it is....with everything still inside. Not one thing was taken.

Love to you, whoever you are...

LOST: Red Duffel Bag (first night)

I lost my red duffel bag, its kinda rectangular, about the size of a carry on luggage.
It made it onto a shuttle, but not to my camp. May have been lost near the bamboo camp (not stage)

It contains mostly clothes, including:
rain coat (that would have been nice)
home silk screened Kazum shirt
blue vest with silver collar (performance clothes)
cell phone charger
sandals
etc.

please contact me if you found this.
I miss my clothes.

Accident in LA after LIB

Hey LIBers!

Wow, what a weekend!! So much, so amazing.

But, unfortunately it may have had a bad end for some of us.

On our way home last night, around 4:30pm on the 101 around Universal Studios, an off white sedan with a missing bumper did one of those 100 mph flashes past us, weaving through traffic like a fucking maniac. You know the type, "Wow, I really wish a cop was around right now and put that idiot away for a long time." kinda guys.

Well, not 1/2 a mile later all traffic came to a complete stop, and I could then see the carnage this guy had caused. At least 7 cars were flipped, spun, crashed, upside down, smoking, torn to pieces. The car in question was flipped on it's nose, and the driver was already out and limping. So many innocents hurt because of this idiot.

I did see two cars that looked like LIBers, and one girl was really shaken up, but it didn't look like there were any fatalities. We tried to pull over, but couldn't because of the traffic pattern, and there were already about 20 people helping out. I felt bad not stopping, but it just wasn't possible.

I just hope that everyone is ok, and that if any of the victims were LIBers that you are doing ok, and getting through this. If for some reason they need more witnesses to the perps driving, let me know. Not that I advocate violence, but there was a group of guys involved in the accident that threw a punch at the perp as we were driving away.

Thanks Staceycats!

The Tiara workshop at Lightning in a Bottle was wonderful. My 4 year old went wild and probably twisted 3 tiara's worth of materials into one concoction. She's still wearing it with pride. You were so great to sit and make butterflies and flowers and lucky clovers for all of the little ones that couldn't quite do it themselves (we left 1 1/2 hours after the workshop began with our masterpiece, and when we went by 1 hour later you were STILL there helping the kids make gorgeous tiaras and crowns. What a trooper you are!)

I lost a black bag with hats, makeup and toiletries SUNDAY evening around 7pm while leaving the event. I either left near my car where I parked, in the lot across the river on the right side mid-back next to the hillside, or I left it in the bed of the truck of the man who kindly shuttled me from my camp to my car...a white large Diesel? truck....if you have any info that would be great!
