Today is day 8, and my second week of dance recovery
I did an hour of Mesmera's Garden its a combinations video.
I really like it. I wont use several of her combinations, but she makes me think about how to put postures and moves together. And I will use several of her combinations
Im going to upgrade this video to DVD at her workshop in Florence this spring.

90 day recovery-week 1

I found this on a friends Sparkpage of all places. It was originally posted on Bhuz. Im not very active over there.
Its Michelle Joyce's 90 days to recovery, a 90 day plan to recover your dancing.
Im on Day 8. I did miss one day.
So far I feel like a potato that is in bad shape, but Im going to get better.
Im sharing this on my blog, but I know not everyone reads that, and thats ok. Im also on the tribe for better belly dancing, and thats really the check in for this.
But here I thought I would also share it, and share the idea incase anyone else wants to join me
AND share my thoughts on some of the tapes and DVD s Im using.

The premise of the plan is to take 90 classes, or do 90 videos in 90 days
I started with an easy video, I was felling rather blah, and only a week and a half of no classes I thought my fitness level had basically tanked.
I did Princess Farhana's basic belly dance work out.
I think this is a good ground zero, basic video. If you or your students need just a good basics video this is it.
And added bonus... I found the DVD at Ross (its a keeper)

Im working thru Rania's 10 minute daily quickies. As soon as this video is done its gone. the information is fine, something about Ranis rubs me the wrong was

I started the beginner choreography in the Heartbeat of belly dance, A drum solo workshop video. I cant remember who the instructor is, but I also found this one at Ross. The choreographies are very cute. Unfortunately I did this one on a bad day, and did not have any fun.
I havent gone thru the three choreos yet. but Im pretty sure I will keep it when its all done.

I did a day of just self drills- no video

I spent 2 days going thru and repeating sections of Neon's Instant Belly Dancer Hip work plus.
Ok, its got some good stuff, its good for a non beginner dancer, Id say an early intermediate to intermediate dancer
she breaks the moves down pretty well. Im done with this dvd, and it will go into the pass it on to the student bag

day 7 I didnt do anything
I had planned, but we basically got up and out and were gone all day long

Music: I am able to hook up speakers & a laptop next to the stage (we did this for her last backyard party & it worked out great) and I am inviting the Love Drums & a few other drummers to perform afterwards so we can dance the night away.

Food/Bev: Snacks & soda will be provided - I am asking everyone to BYOB.

Henna: My friend Jenn is doing henna from 7pm - 9pm.

THE YARD DOGS ROAD SHOW
The Subtle and the Absurd

The Yard Dogs Road Show is a hobo cabaret, a living
patchwork of vaudeville and rock and roll. In the
enchanting land of stage show entertainment theirs is
both pleasant and formidable terrain. They require a
sensitivity to the subtle and the absurd. They lead
the modern hobohemian on a visual and sonic journey
through part of history that may or may not have
existed followed by an ambitious return to the
emotional challenges of our punch-drunk contemporary
world. It¹s a true story on stage: sword swallowers,
dancing dolls, fire eaters and sunset hobo poetry -
all animated by the live sounds of the Yard Dogs
cartoon heavy band. Yard Dogs Road Show is pure visual
and sonic voodoo.

Born from the saloon vaudeville that toured the Wild
West in the late 1800's and slammed into the
underworld of modern American road culture. The Yard
Dogs create a timeless space for the union of ancient
theatrical alchemy and modern pop culture.

The Before Now and How Did

There is some speculation as to the origin of all
this. Not for the want of mystery but for the
difficulty in translating an experience that was
navigated by the overly-romantic and sleep deprived.
Shows came and went leaving very little time to fully
comprehend what was going on. Some say the
carnival-inspired performance art of the Yard Dogs
Road Show began as a three piece jug band performing
in road houses and dance halls and at informal
gatherings, including Oregon¹s modern day acid tests
with Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters. Some say they
traveled in a 1967 Ford Galaxy 500 and the evolution
of their show revealed itself in the flames of a
campfire on Dog Creek Road: dancing dolls with feather
fans, an hombre in silver sunglasses eating fire, a
dreamy guitar boy with golden locks, a bearded swami
capable of conjuring the supernatural . Others say
this story is complete hogwash and it was actually the
brainchild of a unemployed ³cowboy² and his faithful
muse transient artists with an incredible talent for
brainstorming impossible ideas while under the
influence of poppy tea and wishful thinking. By
chance these conversations were overheard by an
ambitious young poet who decided to actualize them for
the sake of all impossible dreams everywhere. When the
three finally immerged from their stupor they realized
that they were in show business. An almost homeless
lifestyle sprinkled with moments of outstanding glory
and recognition. But mostly uncertain days. The only
thing they could rely on was the fact that there would
always be glitter under their fingernails and confetti
in their bed. Truly a life of horseshit and confetti.

Either way, that was eight years ago, and the unlikely
troupe of gypsies has been performing on stages ever
since.

The Bread and Butter

In an historical sense we are a family run show. We
endeavor to operate a values based entertainment
business that sustains itself on pure democracy and
creative collaboration. The Yard Dogs are a naturally
occurring phenomenon - favored by those seeking an
unsullied entertainment experience. We are continually
working towards a refinement of showmanship and
musicianship while simultaneously finding creative
ways to embrace our community and the forever present
unexpected.

The Untold and Who Knows

We have many plans that require many miles. Some say
the show will settle down, maybe in your town in a
small theater or even under canvas - just long enough
to flatten the grass and feed the baby. Whatever the
future holds we want you to be there, dressed in your
finest masquerade. Now is the time to alter the

Gwyn has been studying Belly Dance since the age of 17. DaVid workshop and HAFLA---changes to the show

Due to some unforeseen scheduling conflicts for the performance venue, the Saturday night DaVid performance at West Nashville United Methodist Church has been cancelled. We will also be moving the hafla originally planned for Friday night at Fattoush Café.

Please join us Saturday night, January 19, at 7:00 p.m. at the Global Education Center (the workshop site) for a hafla! There will be a small cover charge to cover the cost of the space. Refreshments will be available. Entry to the hafla will be $5. Get a discounted entry of $3 if you bring canned or boxed food for the food bank. You may sign up to dance at the door or join in free dance!

Please join us January 19-20 in Nashville, Tennessee in welcoming DaVid to the Southeast as he teaches workshops in Raks Sharki Combos, Bollywood for Bellydance, and Bhangra. Workshops will be held at the Global Education Center at 4822 Charlotte Pike in Nashville starting Saturday, January 19 with Raks Sharki Combos at 11:30am and Bollywood for Bellydance at 2:30pm. Jim Boz is coming to Huntsville, AL!!!!!!! The Beledi Club of Huntsville will host the wonderful Boz July 18-20, 2008. All the details aren’t on the Beledi Club’s website yet, but here’s what we have so far:

• Hafla Friday night either at the hotel of choice or The Studio … possibly wandering to my favorite local gay bar just to amuse Jim and show him off to my friends there.
• Four hours of classes with Jim on Saturday that will be decided upon at the Club’s January meeting. Check out Beledi Club of Huntsville’s Tribe for a listing of what our options are. http://tribes.tribe.net/belediclub and to keep up to date on our progress with planning this event.
• A few specially chosen vendors … we have invited Faye and Bipin (who just so happen to be friends of Jim’s), plus Linda (local Beledi Club Member) and Belilah (Beledi Club member) who will be selling Eye Kandy!
• Show Saturday night at the American Legion which will be a benefit for the local ASPCA, a charity near and dear to the Bozman’s heart. There will be a cash bar and a simple menu available to order from (things like burgers, chicken fingers, fries, pizza, etc). We’re considering having a silent auction or something of the sort to help get money for the ASPCA. The Legion gives us this location for free since we do charity shows, so big kudos to them. Tickets to the show will be $10 each or included in your price if you pay for the workshop by the Early Bird deadline (June 1). Performers aren’t expected to pay for the show, but are asked to make a $5 charitable donation.
• Three hours of classes on Sunday will be a bit more advanced than that offered on Saturday, but not beyond anyone who survives the previous 4 hours with Jim.
• Prices are going to be great! The Early Bird Price offered is $125 if paid for by June first. This includes your ticket to the show and 7 hours of class with Jim. After June 1st, the price changes to $150. A single day of classes will be $75 if paid for before June 1st or $80 at the door.
• We’re working on getting pricing for hotel rooms, but that’s still in the works …

its length is designed to be just under hip belt length
it comes with a coordinating double layer head wrap about 104" long
it fit me when I was size 22/24
its cut to uder bust and to be worn with adecorative bra (I wore with coins)
it has a zipper up the back
it also has dress sheilds so dark sweat stains dont show
its clean, but has been folded up in storage for a while
the front has a panel of sequins
as do the tops of the arms, the arms have 6 small silver coins around each edge
arm cuts are lined with matching fabric in double layer head wrap

these have all served me well
but they REALLY dont match now that I enhance with henna
ALL are roughly based on a strawberry blond (comercial color 27) / orange
since Im a red head (just redder now than then

Im selling off:

a banana clip pony fall, multicolor but mostly all based on color #27 plus the one darkers, it has blonde and pink mixed in, it has some red ribbon yarn and lion fur yarn in it
its 24in long, I made this one

a banana clip pony fall, its a bright orange, fake like doll hair, 18 inches long

a 3/4 fall color #27 but it better matched my kids dark blonde than my orange hair

could do 2 hours of combinations in relation to various rhythms and then some Gothic Belly Dance.
Like 2 hrs in the am, break for lunch then 2 hrs for afternoon, then a show/hafla.
Sam and I were going to offer 2 scholarships for 2 people who could use them...I kinda want them to need it...like thier instructor or friends could almost nominate them..then the names will be picked out of a hat or somthing, to be fair...what do you think?

My hair is big today. No, huge. It's approaching Rosanne Rosanna-Danna proportions, in fact. This was not contrived, however. I got my haircut yesterday--a "trim." Amazing what a difference 3 1/2-4 inches makes when dry. My curls are revelling in their newfound weightlessness and have sprung up to twice their normal width and thus less than actual length. Fortunately it has not frizzed as well, so I retain some semblance of normalcy, but it is definitely big!

Argh! I'm addicted!!!

I started with a simple mermaid skirt. I left it alone for a while after fussing with trying to get a top right. Finally, I made a shrug to go with it. Then I made the fistail skirt and a choli to go with it. Last night I cut out the pattern for the morticia mermaid. Tonight I finished it. I already have a few tops I can wear with it. Now I'm looking at the bolt of fabric that's sitting in the corner of my room on top of my sewing desk, contemplating starting on the five panel fishtail. It's too darn easy! I'm addicted. I've expanded my costume wardrobe by almost three costumes in one month with this pattern, and I've got ideas for even more variations. The possibilities go on an on. I've even started looking to Xenia's patterns for design elements to install in other patterns (like the lace-up back of my choli).

I think I need an intervention before I buy more fabric!!!

Costumes & makeup & pictures -- OH MY!

I'm trying to hit all the local folks for reminders that Saturday May 19th at 5pm The Studio in Huntsville, AL will sponsor a workshop on costuming, hair, & makeup with a photo session combined for a great night of fun! This is especially geared towards students who need some ideas on how to mix and match costumes and learn to get their faces on for performances. Lots of discussion time with local costumers, teachers, and freakie people. Healthy (and not so healthy) munchies will be there for keeping the tummy happy! You need to bring your own drinks beyond the usual water --alcohol IS allowed in The Studio! We will have handouts on websites we enjoy using as well as makeup info, eBAy vendors, and patterns. Come with the lists of ideas you want to discuss and your favorite costuming. We can teach you how to adjust things that don't fit, decorate bras that need tribaling up, and make your face shine for the camera. Don't stress if you don't have much costuming --- we clothes horses will bring our stuff to share as well as some people selling their wares for those of you who could use some harem pants, a belt, or some more mascara. All this fun for only $15 and you'll get a cd of your pics to take home for your own website, tribe profile, or to share with your family.

The 8th (Friday night) will be our student recital, plus the teachers may dance a bit as well ... and you get to see IZZY! You recognize the name from Temptation Bellydance(I KNOW you do!) ... I drool over her, I will admit it. This chick is awesome! Saturday will be 4 hours of bellydance bootcamp (a break for lunch in the middle) for only $45 at the Early Bird price and $50 at the door. Sunday will be geared towards intermediate & advanced dancers for another 2 hours of class. The price for Sunday's class is $25 Early Bird and $30 at the door. Henna Workshop!

This Saturday at The Studio in Huntsville, Alabama, The Naughties are sponsoring a henna workshop with Heather Foster. Heather is an amazing henna artist who originally did the design I have on the back of my neck in the palm of my hand in henna. I fell in love with it and had to make it part of me permanently, so this explains why I am so crazy about her. Plus, she's an amazingly cool chickie/dancer/friend! Heather will be at The Studio from 1-4pm teaching the history, safety, and application of henna with an after party for video watching! You will receive 2 cones of henna (one for playing in class & another for taking home to get more practice), handouts of designs & how-to instructions to help you remember the stuff she teaches, and a design of your choice from the sheets she brings done on your hand all for just $25 prepaid or $30 at the door. If you want more henna work done, Heather will be available after the class to do more work during the video/dance hafla. Also, Heather will have extra cones for sale to those of you who just can't wait to henna everyone in the house (be nice to your animals!). The hafla is to be potluck, so bring along any munchies you want to share and/or pillows for lounging while watching the videos. Bring any interesting videos of shows you'd like to share with us. It's going to be loads of fun -- hope to see you there!

Bohemian Sanctuary Murfreesboro's Newest place to Belly Dance!!

just thought i'd let everyone on here know....
a new place has opened in The Boro called the Bohemian Sanctuary. my dance teacher, the lovely Ashisha, has a studio/store for your bellydancing needs. there are hip scarves and jewelry and costume pieces. Most of the items are Tribal style...Banjara belts and Kuchi peices. we also have full (2- 3- or 4-yard) cotton pantaloons (pre- and custom-made by yours truly). The prices are good!

Just off the square. hours are tues-fri 3-9pm and saturday 11-3pm

Henna Art 101 in Huntsville, AL

Heather Foster aka txilar/5inyoureye/Summayyah will be teaching a 3 hour instructional course on the art and history of Henna on Feb 24 from 1-4pm (last hour for applying henna)at The Studio, 1209 Jordan Lane across from Chuck E. Cheese. The cost is $25 prepaid and $30 at the door with students enrolled on a monthly basis at The Studio receiving a 10% discount. Included in the course will be a reference book with instructions, information & designs; henna for class use and home use; and one artist application of henna during class. The class will spill over into a party with food, music, dancing, and henn, of course!, for all. Heather will be available for more detailed henna art during the party. The party is open to everyone -- you don't need to attend the workshop to attend, however, the door won't be open to non-workshop attending party-goers until after 4pm. Some food will be provided, but mostly potluck, so bring your favorite munchies and beverages to party with The Naughties and Heather while we get tattoed ... henna, that is!

how do you feel about instruction booklets??

instead patterns I have 3 new instruction booklets in mind

The plan is to have 2 of them ready and available at tribal con
(booklets produce faster than patterns)
this will be a surprise so noone snipes my idea!

I still have the Basics pattern in development
and hopefully that will be ready for testing very soon

and yes I have a pants in development but running into sizing issues

Tassel sets for sale

Im selling off some tassel setrs that are left over from when I thought I would make my fortune making tribal tassel belts

the tassels are acrylic yarn, 5 inches long, and topped with a plastic ethnic metal look bead

the sets are combinations of colors, some are solid colors

most are sets of 6 but a few are sets of 4

set of 6 is $12 including priority mail in the US
set of 4 is $10 also including shipping

for those of you who have sat around making tassels you know that this is a reasonable cost for the amount of work
(it works out to a little over a buck a tassel once you subtract the $4.05 for shipping)

Dave and I are actually organizing the Roaring 20's Hafla to be held at the Studio that evening! We are really excited about recreating a SpeakEasy for this party. There will be food, gambling, entertainment (meaning anyone who want to get up and dance or even if we can get a jazz singer, that would be great!). Prohibition Laws will be enforced! (Well, pretty much like they were in the 20's, so come prepared. ) I hope that people have a good time!

I finished my marvelous mermaid skirt this week (with modifications suggested by Xenia) except for them hem. I'll probably end up setting my sewing machine *next* to the Christmas tree (which is on the sewing table) to hem it and finish the top because I'm dying to finish the whole costume. When I get a good pic I'll post it, but I did show it to Xenia last night. I luuurve it! :)

Kassar is coming!

Yeah, we've managed it. Mel and Karin of Kassar fame will be in Huntsville, AL November 18-19 to make us sweat, courtesy of The Naughty Nomads. The workshop wil be held at The Studio located at 1219 C Jordan Lane which is on the corner of Jordan Lane and Commercial Drive in the Penny Plaza across from Chuck E. Cheese. That Saturday will be partnering choreography and Sunday will be partnering with floorwork. Each day will offer 3 hours of classes starting at 11am with an hour for lunch starting at 12:30. Don't miss this one --- getting these chickies here from New Jersey is NOT an easy task! And while you're here you can attend the Third Annual Shahala's Toys for Tots Show which Kassar will be performing in. Come on and join us --- you could even be in the show and be able to claim that you danced on the same stage as Kassar! The price is only $75 for both days or $40 for one day as long as you pay before the day of the workshop. It will be $90 at the door for both days or $45 for one day. That's a great price for these two gloriously wonderful dance teachers!

Al Janoub Tennessee MECDA would like to invite you to our first hafla/fundraiser.
It will be held Saturday November 4th, 2006 from 6-10 at the Fun in the Sun Studio in Ridgetop, TN.
Fun in the Sun Studio is located on Highway 41 (Main St/Dickerson Rd) in Ridgetop.

You don’t have to be a member to come & join us! Kids are welcome!
There is a $5 door fee. We ask that you please bring a snack to share.
There will be dancing, drumming, even a small Bellydance garage sale. So if you have anything* you want to sell or trade, please do so. This is a great time to find that gift for your dance sisters or yourself!
There will be henna available too.

attention those of you who sew!

In case you didnt not know I have a small directory on my Madame X website for people who sew costumes
They have to be willing to do custome work is the only caveat, they can have a store, they can specialize in what ever it is they make, but they have to be willing to do custome stuff. Basically I started it so that people who didnt sew could send off their pattern and their fabric and find someone who could make it for them.

you will probably start to see this getting crossed posted I want to build that part of my site

Im updating that part of my site in September, but might as well now get your name in so I have it when I do the update
Ill need:
your name
your location state/country/city//town
how best to contact you
website if you have one
a brief discription of what you do and can and are willing do do in regards to costuming!!
and if you make wedding dresses post that too, just remember you have to do costumes too

First Anniversary WOrkshop @ The Studio in Huntsville, AL

This Saturday at 10 am Zi'ah Ali of Awalim will rock the house! Bellydance Bootcamp starts at 10 after The Studio (1219C Jordan Lane across from Chuck. E. Cheese) opens the door for registration, warming up, and friendly hellos around 9am. We will break at noon for lunch, then return at 1:30pm for the sword workshop. Workshop is $50 or $25 for one class at the door. Sword workshop doesn't have as many open slots as space is limited for use of sharp pointy things. You DON'T want to miss this! Zi'ah is spectacular! She was nominated in Zaghareet for best workshop/coordinator of 2006. She is also the teacher of Moria, one of the most luscious tribal chickies in Bellydance Super Stars. A hafla will follow at 7pm and last until Lisa and I decide we need to collapse. Hafla is open to all with either food donation or $5 studio donation per person taken at the door. BYOB, of course, and children are very welcome(and not charged donations for) as we will have quite a few lovely tribal babies to watch dance. Music will play throughout the night with a performance by Zi'ah and Rosario. If you have anything you'd like to dance to or would like to show a new choreography you are working on, you are more than welcome to share with us. Come enjoy a day with the Naughties!

We've been dancing in our lovely home now for a year and we want to invite all of our wonderful friends to join us in the celebration. Zi'ah Ali of Awalim in Atlanta is coming to Huntsville, Alabama to teach an intensive one day workshop on June 17. We will start at 10 am with Bellydance Bootcamp for 2 hours and return at 1:30 after our lunch break for 2 hours of sword work. Space in classes is limited due to the size of The Studio and the work with swords in the afternoon. The whole day will cost $40 if paid before June 1, after that the price will be $50. Yes, you CAN take just one class, but remember that the space is limited for sword. Before June 1 single class is $20, afterwards it will be $25. There will be a hafla at 7pm after classes. I need 2 sets of numbers
Please include your bust and rib cage(under bust), neck and shirt size number size and if thats small medium or large or XXL
and upper arms

I also need hips, booty, and thigh and inseam
along with what size you wear and if thats small medium......

I will actually not even keep a name associated with the numbers just what numbers go with what sizes

I cant go buy what pattern companies use, because if you are a person that sews you know thopse measurments have nothing to do with the size, and I cant find accurate size to measurment charts--I use them but they are always off from reality

Learning new stuff in class

Hi all..I was so freaked out last night when I got to class, and X said we were going to learn some stuff that they had learned at Amar Gamal...Well, I did not go, cause I am not really into that style...so I was not sure if that class was going to work out for me, and really it's the class I have been asking for, and she is doing it now so I thought I need to just shut my mouth and learn...So...I loved it! What the heck??? I mean, I think I know what I like and dont like, then it all changes...But I finally realized...it is X's teaching that I like...and that no matter what style she is teaching, it is still her style...she puts her flair into it, which is what I like, cause we stopped class and watched a bit of the choreo that Amar was doing, that we were learning, and how X did it was much more to look at...as far as movement and flair.....I mean Amar is an amazing dancer, but not my thing....and HELL NO, would you ever see me in a pair of high heels dancing...Combat boots, cowboy boots, even stripper boots, but not high heels...UGHHHH! So, the next thing is...I noticed how her teaching has evolved...She is so much more sure of what she is teaching...and has a direction in what she is teaching, which I know must have been hard when you have like 2 stdents who come every week, and then the rest are new every week...But she has always been a good teacher...Or I would have given up...If you dont catch my interest right away, I am off....trying somthing else...but that has not the the case here....So I am grateful for the Global Class...it pushes me to try harder, and learn more...I am very excited about what the future will bring....
The two other women in class are super awesome, they both dance great, and it seems that we all fit well together....
I guess that will go on the long version of my grat list today...
