I'm curious about volunteering at Gulf Wars... I AM NOT OFFERING AT THIS TIME. I just wondered what all people have done and would you do it again or did you feel uncomfortable doing one job over another. Will they let you shadow someone & observe to see if it's something you feel you could handle??
my curious mind wants to know.

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Wed, February 27, 2008 - 9:08 PMI've volunteered for security for a number of years. Sometimes I did site patrol and sometimes watch shack duty. I sure could use you on the security team on Tuesday!!!! How about it??? Corrine and Morgath have done potty patrol before and said it was easy and you get double points.:) -

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 12:32 PMFor anyone volunteering:
Go to volunteer point and register, they are good people and will walk you through it.
You may register at any time during the war, even after volunteering.
Come to the Watch station, it will be on your map you get at the gate.
Tell us you want to work, I will be there Monday, Jan on Tuesday.
We will send you to your post. Very simple, very easy.
You will not be posted anywhere alone.
Most posts are traffic and information. -

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 4:44 AMI've done work for the heralds, marshall's, security, and set-up. None of it was unpleasant (ok looking for some guys car keys at 5 am wasn't fun but not much is at that hour) and I'm doing at least that much more again this year. If you want to ask anyone what all they duties are I'm sure they'll let you know and if it's too much find something else for you. A war this size there's always something else ;)

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 10:31 AMI am cutting back this year from the usual 60-80 hours. Chirurgeon, Watch, Herald, Waterbearing, Marshal - one year with the horses.
I get to work with people from other Kingdoms, and get their point of view. Often they pair me with a new person to show them the ropes. Or even just a new person to GW, that does not yet know the roads or the shortcuts.
None of the jobs are difficult, and you have experiences supervision backing every body up. Especially in the Watch. You can work Tuesday for Jan, but you can also work Monday for me. I will train you, and then Jan will know that you can do a good job. hehe
In addition to the above that I have done, there is Sanitation, Scribe / Charter painting, Information Point, Land, Public Works, Youth Activities and I am sure much more.
Sign up for your group, they get income. -

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 11:48 AMOne more thing. You do not have to be a Chirurgeon to help out, we can always use someone to help organize stuff, especially at the start of the war, and listen to the radios.
And you don't have to be a Herald to help their either. There is always something that needs doing. -

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 1:40 PMI have to second the herald's point volunteer thing. I'm not a herald and I don't play one on TV but they found things for me to do that let them focus on the herald stuff that I couldn't do...such as entering submissions on the computer, matching up people with heralds for consultations, receptionist, etc. -

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Thu, February 28, 2008 - 5:39 PMok... i'm (slightly) just about talking into the security shack or patrol, whichever. Crandall, if you're working it Monday then I'll find you there.
: ( Sorry Jan... you know I'd love to work with you but Tuesday is out for me. If that changes then I'll let you know. -

Re: Volunteering at Gulf Wars
Sat, March 1, 2008 - 9:06 AMI have worked Troll a number of times and it is fun and easy. They will tell you exactly what to do and you work indoors the whole shift. The other great thing is that you get to meet everyone who trolls in during your shift....bunches of new people from all over the Known World. Troll ALWAYS needs help too.
Have fun this year as I won't get to be there...pout, pout. I am sure it is going to be a great war.
Hugs
