Has anyone tried Lucid Absinthe? I have a bottle on order and will sample it soon, but I'd be curious to hear reports.

Yep, got two bottles Friday and had a few glasses last night. I had expected not to like it very much, but I think it's great! Not as flavorful as the better absinthes available in Europe (like Swiss blanches, Jades, etc.), but the recipe is well balanced and and it has a surprisingly full mouth feel in spite of being based on beet spirits (as opposed to wine spirits). Hoping we'll be able to find it in SF stores soon (anybody from BevMo listening?!).

The bar "Absinthe" is insane if they're not selling it.

I'm not so sure the restaurant is ready to cross that line, or that it would be good for them.

One problem is that some people will insist on burning (or trying to burn) their absinthe, or shooting it, or otherwise consuming it in a way that will only cause trouble. I can already hear "No, no, let me, I insist-- I've been to Prague and have sampled hundreds of absinthes, I know how it's done!" Ugh. I can't imagine a restaurant putting itself in the position of having to disagree with a misinformed patron.

It should probably be served after the bartender louches it behind the bar (diluting it ~3:1, maybe even with a spoon+fountain), serving it with a small carafe of water so the patron could dilute it further.

The cynical part of me wonders if restaurants that towed the "Real absinthe was poisonous and hallucinogenic that's why we sell safe absente" line will be willing to quickly go back on it and say "oops, our bad, ignore what we said before."
