I found eating linguine with Alfredo sauce or pizza was not the best thing before dance class. Urrrp!
I now eat loooong before class, to let it all settle and I eat way lighter. Salad and seafood, but no heavy sauces. Been eating broiled salmon (when it's on sale) with an Asian sauce, bottled, but good! Small amounts of rice or soups. What do you ladies dine on when you know you're going to be shimmying and shakin'?

Re: Before class, what do you eat?
Thu, April 17, 2008 - 9:38 PMHmm...I've been wracking my brain and can't remember what I used to eat before class. I can tell you that I don't eat before I perform. I usually eat afterwards. My regular gig is at a Tunisian restaurant and oooooh yummy it's worth the wait. Plus it's good to avoid all the sloshy badness that can come from a full tummy and belly rolls!
hee hee I'm hungry now. :o)

Re: Before class, what do you eat?
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 6:10 AMHey Kathy!
My class starts at 11am on saturday morning. So I have coffee and a banana or coffee and dry cereal. Fiber one or Kashi. I can't do milk early in the morning - and certainly not before activities!!! And a big glass of water to hydrate!
Before a performance - I try to make sure I get good quality food in the days before because my NERVES the day of lead to undereating, overeating, and bad decision eating...... I know better - but.......... :)

Re: Before class, what do you eat?
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 9:26 AMI usually eat something protein-dense like mixed nuts or cheese but not *too* much so I don't feel weighed down.

It's YUM and guilt free.

Re: Before class, what do you eat?
Fri, April 18, 2008 - 11:27 AMSomething quick and smaller-portioned - cereal, fruit & nuts, microwaved leftovers, sandwich,
muffin and soymilk, an eggs over-hard with paprika and olives and bread, granola bars,
hummus and crackers drizzled with olive oil, tadpole pizza (slices of bread topped with pizza
appropriate toppings [no tadpoles, heheh] and baked).
I try to eat 1-2 hrs before class starts. The amount of food eaten needs to be a small volume,
like half a dinner plate, or I'll be sick for sure. I personally need to up the calories when
eating these mini meals, hence the liberal use of nuts and olive oil wherever it works.
This tribe is making me hungry! -

All that is quick and smaller portioned?! LOL!
I know what you mean about this tribe making one hungry. It could be our downfall! -

Sun, April 20, 2008 - 8:58 PMUsually what ever is left over in the fridge. Here of late thought, it's been a couple of slices of bread spread with harisa w/ a glass of sweet (sugar) ea. Yum. Nope, I'm not all that health conscience at all! -

Re: Before class, what do you eat?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 9:50 PMMmm, we're a sweet tea family too. I lived down south for a good few years and the hubby was raised in MS, so it's a staple of the kitchen. Always have to have it made! A friend whose family live in WV said that they always had sweet tea available at restaurants, but if they went 30 miles into Ohio it was only unsweetened tea. It's a northern thing. LOL!

Re: Before class, what do you eat?
Fri, May 30, 2008 - 2:48 PMI work and have class 45 minutes away from where I live. So, as long as the wait between work and class is shorter than 3 hours, I'm stuck in town.
I found out I shouldn't EAT anything before class. So I go to Smoothie King and get a small Gladiator with 2 fruits. I change up the fruit choice to keep it interesting.
On the weeks I don't have class, I still get smoothies on the same nights and "have class" in my living room. (So I don't get out of practice.)
Except last night. I took my first Thursday night off in more than a year…

Re: Before class, what do you eat?
Fri, June 6, 2008 - 12:57 PMOn nights I have class, hubby and I usually eat our main meal at lunch. Then I just snack a little before I go to class...something light....cheese, crackers, nuts.
But last night I had to have a Twinkie! I know....processed stuff.....not good for me.....yea, yea....but sometimes I just Needs It!
I don't usually eat before a performance. We all go out to eat and celebrate afterwards.
