Weird Hooping-Related Nightmares

This will prob. sound totally bizarre, but maybe some of you relate:

I always have had very weird and vivid dreams, usually negative. So, in the past several months that I have been hooping, I have occasionally had HOOPS and hooping as a part of my dreams. The weird thing is, in any dreams that involve hooping, there is usually something wrong with the hoops. For example, sometimes I will dream that the "hoop" itself is really just a circular band of cloth with no rigidity or strength (imagine a waist-band cut off a pair of pants, but much larger in circumference)---since it is flimsy cloth, I am unable to do anything with it, and usually end up letting down those who are watching. The other variation I sometimes have is that the hoops are so small, they fit like a belt, and once again I can't do a thing with them.

I am sure these are probably symbolic of challenges in my hooping or my life...but it's also kind of funny b/c it's so bizarre! :)

HaHa! I have that same dream...the one where you are hooping with a "flimsy hoop"! Wonder what it's symbolic of because I've had that one on more than one occasion. Although in my dream I'n not letting others down, I just find it really frustrating because no matter how hard I try I can't do any dancing, moves, or tricks!

I have also had that dream, but not for a long time... I've wondered if it has to do with an underlying anxiety or fear, specifically about the safety of my hooping/hoop space/circle becoming unreachable.

I've also had a similar dream on several occasions. The hoop is big enough to hoop with but it is almost jelly like and I really can't do too much with it. But on the other hand, I've also had hooping dreams where I am just busting moves left and right and I am doing so awesome and I look so fierce...and then I wake up and in reality I can't do any of the things I did in the dream and then I just get disappointed.

So good to hear all of your replies! :) Can't believe there are others as crazy as me! I agree that all of these are probably example of hidden feelings and fears (except the busting-moves dream, that sounds great!).
It almost reminds me of that nightmare that everyone has about being behind the wheel of a car, but being unable to control it, or unable to drive. The "flimsy hoop" dream probably symbolizes a similar sense of powerlessness, lack of direction, futility, etc. Mine has the added dimension of others watching me struggle with the flimsy hoop---maybe something about letting others down?

Anywho--thanks for sharing! Reading that others have had similar dreams is almost as amazing as when I first started reading that other hoopers also rock in their chairs while watching Hooping videos on YouTube!

eh, it's a commonality...my mom's a tailor, and she has dreams about having a bicycle-operated sewing machine. It wasn't until a few years ago that she found out other sewing nuts had the same dream. Same if you're a teacher (unruly classroom) or a knitter (knitting, but the garment stays the same size) or whatever. Seems that there are always common themes and icons within dreams.

But I'm totally with you on the vivid dreaming.

I have not had these dreams myself, but I thank you for sharing them. I think these dreams are s testimony to the power of the hoop as a vehicle for self discovery and a metaphor for life. I am curious as to how these dreams will change as your lives change.

I had a dream about a week ago that I was hooping with this guy (did not recognize him) and all of a sudden he dropped his hoop and started chasing me with a knife trying to stab me in the back! I grabbed my hoop and started running. My husband woke me up because I was crying and having a panic attack in my sleep, that has never happened before. I can only attribute this dream to me needing to run far away from the dark side of hooping and to use hooping as a light to help and save others. So long as I spend my hooping days giving back, I won't get a knife in my back!

interesting dream: when you say "dark side of hooping", what do you think that might mean for you? competitiveness among hoopers? self-criticism in your own hoop practice?

sorry to hear about your scary dream! :)

I have the exact same dream! My hoop is so flimsy and I can't hoop with it, it's like trying to hoop with a chain or something.
I've had another bad hoopdream where my PSI hoop was utterly destroyed...it was awful!

I find the whole 'flimsy hoop dream' fascinating. It's so interesting that we all have the same thing! I wonder how many other hoopers have this dream...maybe we should repost this topic in the Hula Hooping tribe because of it's heavier user traffic.

Aaahh the hooping nightmares! I haven't had this dream, but I've had another reoccurring hooping nightmare. Have you ever had that dream where someone is chasing you and you're trying to run away with all your mite, but you can only move in super slow motion? That's how my hooping nightmare is. I go on stage for a performance and the music starts, but the hoop is super heavy and I can only move in slow motion. It feels almost like I'm under water.
