I am driving with all of my hoops to FL; wrapped and tubes of unwrapped. This is going to be a 12 hr drive and I only have a sedan. I'm thinking of laying down yoga mats on the roof of my car (to keep them from scratching my car and sliding around) and bungee cording them to the inside of the car. Does anyone see any potential hazards with this? I've done it with my hoops wrapped in plastic before (without the yoga mats) from here to Raleigh and they seemed to do just fine. These have a big farther to go.
On second thought I may just leave the tubing here and buy more there. It will already be a lot of hoops (30 or so) on the roof of my little toyota corolla.
Any better ideas?

Re: need suggestions for driving with hoops
Wed, September 16, 2009 - 8:17 AMjust a thought:
is it possible for you to travel with them inside your car? my car is small, but i have travelled from NY to NC with about 15-20 hoops in the back seat of my car. i use a bungee to secure them to the backs of the headrests of the driver and passenger seats (hope that makes sense). this way, they are not warping by leaning against the back seat for long, and no one will steal them at roadstops, also no rain will ruin your hoops. i even fit two hoopers sitting in the backseat behind all those hoops, and they were fine! -

Re: need suggestions for driving with hoops
Wed, September 16, 2009 - 10:25 AMI have shoved 20 large hoops into the backseat of my VW Golf on many occasions. I agree with Adrienne that it is a bit easier and safer to travel this way. I slide them in semi-vertically, so that the bottom end rests on the floor of the car, the top end leans back on the seat. Let us know how it goes!

Re: need suggestions for driving with hoops

But seriously, just if anyone wants to know, they worked beautifully.
I tied about 30 of them together tightly, layering them according to size, with four scarves. Then, I used about 200 ft of saran wrap (the generic, of course) to wrap all of them together. (It looked like a hoop sandwich) I also wrapped a few spaced out sections of packing tape for good measure.
I layed two yoga mats on top of my car so as not to damage the finish and sat the stack of wrapped hoops on top of them. Using three bungee cords I wrapped the cords through the hoops and fastened them to the handles on the inside of the car. So, I used two on either side in the back and one in the front to keep them from sliding back. You have to get the right length of bungee cord so they are very tight.
I did this the night before because I had help them lifting them onto the roof of my car. It poured rain all night and all I did was lay two towels over them. They were dry as a bone by the morning and made it through 14 hours of driving to Sarasota with me safe and sound :)
I even had a girl take a picture of it at a gas station =)
