Folks--
--I'm in a vulnerable time now, and yet about to go on a long trip. A friend of mine suggested I call on my 'protective spirits' and ask for their care.
--Anyone have experience with such practice(s)?
--As a Yogi, it seems rather Shamanistic to me. But what they heck, if it works...

Re: Protective Spirits
Sun, October 15, 2006 - 1:40 PMhey, why not? it's my understanding that many ancient yogic traditions, both Indian and Tibetan, included a fair amount of what would be shamanic practices. i know that many tibetan practices, including the Chod for example, come from traditions steeped deep in yogic, buddhist and shamanic traditions.
i'm sorry to hear its such a vulnerable time for you Charles. i hope your protectve spirits watch over you and your guides help to show you the direction you need to move in.
peace. -

Re: Protective Spirits
Tue, October 17, 2006 - 6:55 PMOh thank you! But its a good thing, this opening. I just finished a rather intense 41-day mantra practice and injured myself (just a small cut, but still) the same day. Also felt a little clumbsy. My friend interpreted this as a vulnerable time, which makes sense to me.
I'm in Boise now, staying with friends, and doing fine. I'm not sure if I contacted any protective spirits, but had a very interesting meditation while asking. When traveling, I normally bring a small Ganesha statue with me and feel thoroughly watched after. So far, so good.

Thu, October 19, 2006 - 12:23 PMi'm glad to hear that you are doing fine. i think that there's a lot of energy shifting around in the universe right now. i'm not sure what your experience was meditating, but sometimes all we have to do is set an intention, ask through our being and then witness. i hope your time with friends is full of joy and warmth.

Tue, October 31, 2006 - 1:50 PMGanesha may be a good choice for a yogi. He is the remover of obstacles which to me could definately include protection.
