We have all been talking and we miss the whole setting up of the warehouse. It really was such a fun aspect of the parties. So a few of us last night decided we need to do something big at Phoenix Rising to get out our creative energy.
Plan of Action:
If you haven't seen the freezing in Grand Central Station video, watch it now: youtube.com/watch
Let's do the same thing at Phoenix Rising! We need some type of cue to go off (maybe a horn blast during a certain djs set), and for three minutes we are all going to freeze (until a second horn blast occurs). We figured that there are enough people on this tribe who will see this post to make this a legendary event for the party, but still a few who will never see this post and not know what is going on (including everyone working for the venue!)
So throw in your input, come up with a freezing pose. We shouldn't do it during fire, but if you want, I will gladly freeze while spinning. Ok people, what do you all think? Can we make this happen? Can you imagine Hedy & Erik's video when they capture this!
Let's lengthen this thread....

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:34 AMI'm all for it!
I don't know how many rooms there are at Shampoo but there may need to be synchronized starters in each part of the club. I'll volunteer to be one. Do we want the dj's to freeze? or the music to stop? Will a whistle be loud enough or do we need blow horns?

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:35 AMI am in! Good idea Lucky! -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:38 AMDefinitely was a collective idea, but I think it would be cool if the music kept going. So it is just us that freeze.

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:53 AMgreat idea! it will be awesomely weird and wonderful :)

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:54 AMdude, this is an awesome idea!
we could also bring umbrellas, and all pull them out like it's raining. and maybe even freeze with the umbrellas.
gonna think what else i can come up with :-) -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 7:18 AMIt seems to me that the craziness of freezing is that everybody becomes a manican regardless of doing completely different things. So some people should be holding umbrellas, some people talking, some drinking alchohol, some dancing, some in a breakdancing pose (if you can hold it lol) etc.
We need some kind of signal that is announced in each room. How about this:
Let's say the freeze is at 1:am.
10 min before, at 12:50 someone with the authority to do so goes into each room and announces something on the mic, that is a code meaning "the horn is about to sound" to remind people to be ready. They could say anything, like "phoenx is about to rise!" or anything you can think up that sounds less dumb.
At 1:am, someone standing near the hallway area that connects all the three dancefloors sounds a bullhorn.
Everybody freezes for three minutes, when the horn is sounded again. -

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 7:21 AMI love this kind of stuff.
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 7:40 AMI like the warning idea. another thing is we need to keep this on the DL during the party. if it's all we're talking about that night, then everyone will know and it won't freak anyone out. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 8:00 AMGood call Brian. One thing we need to know is when performances are going on. We probably should wait till those are over to do it, which might mean a bit later in the evening.
Giant Bear could interject here if he knows times.

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 8:23 AMI've been wanting to do this for ages, tee hee! Fun fun fun.
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:07 AMwow - that would be fabulous on video! You definately need to keep me in the loop as to what time is actually decided upon, so we can be filming right before the freeze and capture the act of freezing. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:17 AMThis will be priceless!
What would be ridiculous is if at a certain time, all power could be shut off for a few seconds, come back on, and we're all frozen. Yea, it would fuck up the DJs, but it looks cool in my head!

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 6:25 AMI say we do it at 2:15 unless that's during something I don't know about.
We need a signal. If it's a blow horn, who has a blow horn?
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 6:37 AMCount me in as well:)
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 7:04 AMyay!!! 2:15 is perfect for me. i am doing the luge 12-1, then door 1-2. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 9:12 AMalthough 2:15 might be a distracting time -- everyone is already very full of beer and suddenly beer is not served anymore. i'm thinking earlier would prob be easier to organize?
-
-
i heart pex!
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 10:17 AMthank you all for freezing.
the beauty of a freeze is that those who aren't participating don't see it coming, and sometimes don't notice until the freeze ends. and the point of a freeze is to stop no matter what else is going on. so does it matter if fire's happening, or your peeing, or performing, or standing in line at the bar? Well, yes, because the more "normal" things going on the more "abnormal" the freeze becomes. If it's a bunch of people on the dancefloor and no one else, well it has much less impact. Music wise, i think it would be great to have dj's do the freeze (ROBOT FREEZE!) but the music keeps going and the dj is suspended in time.
I can't wait to see video!!! i heart you all so much- except, of course, you, Lucky.I'm just hot for your pits babe.

Re: i heart pex!
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 12:56 PMIm down. I will be DJing early. If its during my set I am happy to freeze. (as long as I don't have to mix to the next song...)
Who is going to video this?
-
Re: i heart pex!
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 4:24 PMEven better, how about whoever's DJing sets a really short loop and lets it roll for the entire 3 minutes...
Like a CD skipping over and over...
Man, that'd be deliciously annoying...
-
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 1:05 PMIn order to participate you must also help out as Greeter or Ice Luge captain! ;o) C'mon! *does hand motion*
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 1:42 PMCount me in. This will be so amazing. (as if standing around doing nothing is amazing, which, it is!)
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 4:27 PMI'm frozen!
I've been thinking how cool it would be to organize a freeze in Suburban Station around 5:30 pm while everyone is bustling to catch their trains home. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 7:51 PMThis is so great. Lots of people are signing on, we just need a bit of info with the times so a performance isn't happening with everyone staring at a stage instead of noticing what is going on. Is Giant Bear or someone else out there who wants to determine a time and signal for the freezing? -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 9:02 PMI will go over the performance schedules tomorrow and see what time looks best, I would think sometime after 2:30 when the most peeps are in the house. We could have the Dj's loop a 4 beat loop and have it repeat for the duration. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 6:43 AMShit, involving the music in this will be off zee hook!!!
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 7:57 AMYeah I was thinking exactly that... loop it and then when unfreeze happens, release. That would be sick. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 8:25 AMRAAAAARRRGGHHHHGHGH!!! So bummed I can't make Phoenix Rising. Decide on a time we're freezing, I'll do it wherever I am and confuse as many people as possible!!!!

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 12:18 PMSo in order to prepare for this to be everything we want it to be, set a timer for 3 minutes between now and then and practice freezing...it's not as easy as you think! =P -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 12:22 PMHaha that's true, you'd be surprised how tired your muscles get staying in one position for so long, even a simple one.
Unless you're used to yoga :P -

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 4:35 PMeven harder - try freezing for 3 min when you're stumbling drunk

Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 6:08 AMLET'S SET THE TIME!
It's Thursday and we need to set the time. So...
2:40AM
Watch your clocks. There will be a noticeable signal to let everyone know it is time. The freezing will go for 3 minutes. Then there will be another noticeable signal.
Now, whoever wants to chime in with what the signal would be on/in all the floors/rooms, speak up.
At this point though, 2:40am is freezing time. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 7:01 AMcan we get Lufer to grunt over the PA as the signal? -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 8:25 AMJawn, i think this can be arranged... especially if we somehow hide the alcohol
-
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:04 AMThere's that little hallway area that connects the main dance floor with the "fountain lounge" (aka bathroom), the smaller dancefloor and the outdoorsy area. They all meet at a common nexus, a tiny-ass hallway. Someone should sound a loud signal fromt here that is obvious and audible to everybody. I still also think someone should say a code message on the mics 5 min before the freeze to remind all of us. -
-
Re: Freezing at Pheonix Rising
Thu, May 8, 2008 - 10:24 AMWhoever wants to be in charge of notifing everyone, speak up.
