Long story short: I can't make the Level 2 in October, and Suhaila will be back in St. Louis next July for a combined 1-2 class with level 2 testing. There's a Level 2 at the Mothership in April, I think? But it would work out better for me to take the Multi-level in January, get the drum solo choreography, and then have 7 months to work on it before (possibly) testing in July in St. Louis.
So my question is, if I go to the multi-level, what will I miss that's usually taught in the Level 2 weeklong? Or what's the advantage of a multi-level over a regular "level" workshop? Anything?
sorry if this has been discussed a thousand times before. Thanks!

Re: Multi-day versus straight-up level 2?
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 9:46 PMWell the only issue is that you will not get your level 2 drum solo in a Multi level workshop. I teach other choreography in the Multi level's. Take a level 2 weeklong if you want to work on your level 2 information for testing.

Re: Multi-day versus straight-up level 2?
Wed, July 23, 2008 - 11:51 PMThis is just my opinion as it relates to my experience with my level 2 test... In the multi-level you get glimpses at L2 and 3 but you don't drill at those levels consistently with all the movements that are possibly on the test. The L2 is way more "physical" and will do much more to prepare you for the drills in L3... plus you will learn the L2 choreography which you also need to know with the additions for L3.
SOOO... I think it depends on your level and how comfortable you are with the L2 content. There were some L2 testers in my first multi-level and they were fine but obviously very well practiced. I was so glad I went to the L2 weeklong before my test. There were a lot of movements that threw me for a loop that I hadn't practiced with that specific down beat or direction and it gave me a week to figure them out!
Good luck! -

Re: Multi-day versus straight-up level 2?
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 8:07 AMOhhhh!!!! Okay, I want that cymbal choreography! ( I LOVE cymbals!!) So that means I should come out for the weeklong in April.
Is it at all possible to consider testing in July, only having learned the choreo in April? I fully intend to have all the other stuff in the Level 2 book "mastered" by that time :) No really, I mean it!
My level of commitment to this program is VERY high. (having been away from it for a year makes me realize how much I missed it and need it.) I am religiously practicing my level 1 drills at LEAST 5 times a week, and I bought that awful horrible foam roller thing and I'm rolling around on it just about every night. (It's actually not as agonizing now as it was 2 weeks ago. I guess that's a good sign?) I'm doing the ab work every night, and doing the quad strengthening exercises every other night. So if I keep this up, and keep up the cardio, I should be okay for the physical part of the test, I think.
On the finger cymbal choreo test for level 2 -- do you actually have to smile while you do it? I think I could manage a grimace, maybe. :) -

Of course anything is possible! However, you should just ask Suhaila at the workshop if she thinks you are ready... She will tell you the truth.

Thu, July 24, 2008 - 6:05 PMSorry did I miss something - is the L2 a drum solo test? Or is this a choreography taught in L2? :) -

Re: Multi-day versus straight-up level 2?
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 10:34 PMit's a choreography that will soon be part of the L2 test...
From the website: "Student is responsible for demonstrating knowledge and physical execution of the concepts covered in Level 2, including the Level 2 Drum Solo. (Beginning October 2008, students will be required to demonstrate and perform the Level 2 Drum Solo with finger cymbals as part of the Level 2 test.)"

Re: Multi-day versus straight-up level 2?
Thu, July 24, 2008 - 10:36 PMThe L2 drum solo is a choreography that is required to pass the Level 2 test in addition to the written and practical drills. -

Re: Multi-day versus straight-up level 2?
Fri, July 25, 2008 - 6:24 AMThat's what I get for waiting so long to do level 2 :) LOL.
Am I actually the only person EXCITED about learning this? I LOOOOOVE cymbals.
I just ordered the Suhaila School cymbals on the website. It's going to be hard to give up my Saroyan Afghanis -- I've had them for 5 years and I love the sound. I hope these new ones sound similar :) -
