I am going to the weeklong workshop this summer in El Cerrito. I was wondering where the best, cheapest, and closest place to stay is?
I am fairly familiar with the East Bay but not savy on hotels.

Wed, April 23, 2008 - 6:43 AMi've been lucky until this trip and was able to always stay with someone or house sit/cat sit. this time around it didn't happen and im staying at the French Hotel in downtown berkeley...and im loving it and feel more settled and happy than any other time i've come.
its a short, great walk to the bart, right next door to stores and restaurants, wifi included, a little porch, a comfy bed, a coffeehouse downstairs, and it feels really safe to me. level II is demanding, and it feels great to have my own little space. the hotel is not posh, but it does feel homey. its about $90 per day, which is comparable to what other places charge.
alexis from DC recommended it, and she was right!

That sounds ideal to be near BART and near cool stuff in Berkeley.
Every other budget hotel I've seen online so far sounds either sketchy or just in an unsavory part of town.

Wed, April 23, 2008 - 12:22 PMI don't think you'll find cheaper that you'd want to stay in quite frankly. $90 for anywhere near SF is great :)
You can always post online to see if perhaps you could share a room with someone else who's also going to that week long you'll be at.

about the French Hotel...i'm still loving it... :) and its two stops from the studio... (i swear they are not paying me to promote them!!!)
***i was wondering if somehow students coming for weeklongs could get together with the studio and work out some sort of deal with this hotel that would mean less expensive rates for us...just a thought...***

There's the Bugdet Inn close to the studio but you won't find it online...just go there. It's about a 15 mins walk from the studio and it's opposite "Safeway supermarket"..when you step out of Suhaila's studio, walk on El Cerrito Avenue to the right for about 10- 15 mins..oh..it costs about US$180-200 per week.
