In a nutshell...
Change wenching is pretty simple; Collecting money from riders and of course, making change... Also keeping things organized and paid riders lined up and ready to go next as quickly as possible. A little bit of hawking and interacting with people watching, riding and walking by. Making sure people stay outside of the roped boundaries and stuff like that. Oh, and taking the occasional picture for riders.
It's not terribly demanding, altho you need to stay aware and focused. It is really quite fun, and you get to ride when customer rides slow down!! We're pretty easy going ;-} There are two rocking horses and each ride lasts 3 or 4 minutes, so it's important to keep the flow of riders moving.
Push monkeys are the guys who rock the horses from the ground (you are a 'counter-weight' for 1,200 pounds of wood). It's a work-out.
The pay isn't gonna put you thru college, LOL, but will put you in a fun booth at faire (10% of the gross income, plus tips are split equally, for your shift). Your camping is paid for, and your admission to faire... for the weekends that you work at the booth only.
There are a few more details, but this will give you the basics...
Please feel welcome to post any questions... We'll also be at Golden Gate faire, stop by the booth and see us!
~Cindy
PS You must have a faire approved costume ;-}
