Update on Coyote Camp's Meeting with Walker River Paiute Tribe
Walker River Reservation – Shurz, Nevada - Dec 13. 2007

Coyote Camp recently met with the Walker River Paiute Tribal Council at Shurz, Nevada on December 13, 2007. We extended an invitation to various people who may be interested in what we are doing in our "planting back" way of life. We had a really good reception from many quarters. Many people seemed interested in taking part in an "Auto Tour" this spring to familiarize themselves with the native plants we are focusing on. Several members of the cultural committee were on hand and asking questions. The council delegated a woman by the name of Victoria, who works for a land reclamation group, to help set up some educational opportunities in the spring. There is a boys and girls club that she thought we should meet with. We are also working on an informational video of 10 - 15 minutes length, that we might share with these sorts of groups.
Our friend Melvin Brown was there and we gave him some plants and seeds to plant at his place for a future exhibition garden. Melvin has also offered to take our "information" and help us in our outreach. We have been working with Melvin for over a year, he has been out on the land "planting back" with us, and he is excited about carrying and sharing our message to as many people as possible, about giving everything it's life, of hoop law and giving back. He is active in his community and has recently volunteered to oversee the "law and order" committee on the reservation, which puts him in contact with a wide spectrum of people, We are most grateful for Melvin's understanding and help, and for his love for the native plants.
We are very pleased and grateful for the warm reception given to us at our meeting with the Walker River Paiute Tribal council, and are excited about beginning to "plant back" with them in the spring.
If you would like to join with "Coyote Camp" in March and April, to work together with the Walker River Paiute Tribe, please email Finisia - finisia@pullingforwildflowers.org

The Nez Pierce Reservation kids can see the beginnings of a habitat restoration that will return this patch of land to something resembling the tribal grounds where their ancestors once lived and dug roots.
