Re: Men's brains vs. Women's brains
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 4:03 PMTrue. But it does explain how when I ask "What'cha thinking about?" my hubby can answer "Nothing." That answer usually drives me batty as I'm ALWAYS thinking about something. It may be mundane, but I'm thinking! -

Re: Men's brains vs. Women's brains
Sat, February 9, 2008 - 5:41 AM(1): You don't want to know.
(2): I really don't remember. Your question scared me, so I forgot.
(3): Your sister is so hot, I'd really like to have sex with her.
(4): Dynamic cam/rotor/shaft assemblies. Let me tell you about them.
(5): The original Voltron had nothing, nothing at all, to do with lions.
(6): Your sister is such a bitch, I'd really like to throw her off of a bridge.
(7): Nothing. Philosophically, it's a challenge.
(8): Nothing. Seriously. Sittin' here, lookin' around, and thinkin', "huh"
(9): "Why are you not bringing me sandwiches?"
(10): It's insane how your sister can be such a bitch and yet so hot. -

Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 11:44 AMHaving dated both, I agree with a very small aspect of the video, and that is the wire/box analogy. Everything else is funny, but not representative of healthy people. Non-linear versus linear, and I believe that it isn't wholly hard wired, but reinforced with enculturation. This guy seems to have a high stress level when it comes to women, but he's funny and speaks well so he reinforces the stress and fear in others. We ain't as bad as he asserts. -
-
Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 11:47 AMIt's basically a stand up routine, or at least that is how I view it. His basic rule of thumb is that men can think of one thing at a time and women can think of many. Also women can associate one event with another event because of the emotions of that event. I think that's all fairly true in my humble opinion. Everything is else is basically a show. -
-
Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 11:56 AMI think it might be true for sheeple, those who want to embrace a stereotype. It seems to me that everyone in this tribe is discerning, so we can see the difference between truth and balder. Since that video is marketed as a pop-psych video, my guess is that there are a lot of people who aren't so discerning. -

Mon, February 11, 2008 - 12:02 PMFrom my view, they are there because some people are too afraid to engage each person as an individual, they want to decide things about a group so that they don't have to think.
I must confess, I can't go on too much about it, because what I am saying runs into the 'complaint' category and I have given it up for Lent. It is an interesting subject though and I would love to take you up on it after Easter. :)
Sorry to drop the ball.

Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 12:03 PMI agree with James about stereotypes to a point. In fact, I just had a conversation about this with a coworker. There IS a reason stereotypes exist.
Anyway, I also (no offense, Toni) usually scoff at generalizations. I've lived with a man for 14 years who I (with all the love in my heart) refer to as "the non-guy". He will insist that I take the remote. He doesn't watch sports. He rarely goes "out with the boys" (and then it's computer gaming while I get drunk and play Scrabble with the chicks).
I do not believe that all men and women think the way this guy claim....thank the gods. -
-
Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Tue, February 19, 2008 - 3:44 PMHey - Absolutely NO offence taken. I Loathe sweeping generalizations. My hubby of 11 years is much like yours - not into sports, doesn't go "out with the boys," etc.
A lot of stereotypes are there for a reason, just like cliche's are *Generally* true. But I only posted this as a chuckle. No, of course not all men nor women think this way. My Hubster generally thinks via the box style but is also very good at following my "wire-like" conversations. Conversely, I am quite a logical thinker, unlike another stereotype.
~~Random "wire-like" thought: The DSMV is filled with generalizations if you get too technical. ;)
Again - humor folks. lighten up <grin>

Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 12:07 PMTo clarify, I think everyone is different, absolutely agree with that and you can't say that all women nag or all men don't listen because it's not the case. But the fundementals of a stereotype are usually built on observations and are there for a reason. They may get updated over time and sometimes are out of date a stereotype by it's very nature is a public observation of something.

Tue, February 12, 2008 - 2:54 PMcan James just say a bunch of smart stuff again? Love that accent! I think I must be the non-woman...........I was married to a non-man for 22 years. -

Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Tue, February 12, 2008 - 3:15 PMI am definitely the non-woman. I don't like to shop, unless it's thrift/rummage/flea market. I REALLY hate malls! I can't stand girls who act like sissies then want to be "empowered". -

Re: Yeah, he needs to just learn that that's how women are, love em for it :)
Tue, February 12, 2008 - 4:17 PMThen you guys are merely evidence that stereotypes are limiting. Clearly, you're women, but you don't fit the stereotype. So then you're not sheeple.

Re: Men's brains vs. Women's brains
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 5:46 AMYes, I do.I won't say that all men and women are like that but I will cite a specific incident. Jackal and got into a small tiff several months ago because he asked me a question about something that I was certain had already been addressed. Of course, I assumed that it was because he wasn't listening. It was settled within minutes like this
Me: "I already told you that. It makes me mad when this happens because I feel like you weren't listening to me."
Him:"But sometimes I'm processing what you are saying while you are going off in many different directions"
Me:"Well, sometimes you have to give priority to what I'm saying. Also, when I have something to discuss with you, I have already rehearsed it in my mind because I want to be clear so it can be resolved. It may seem like it's going in different directions, because I feel the need to explain my deeds and thoughts"
Him: "Okay, I will try to listen more closely, but understand that sometimes I slip up."
Me: "Agreed, but understand that when that happens, I will be pissed off"
The whole thing was over in a matter of minutes with no more volume or intensity than a discussion about what to have for dinner. I even commented that it would be nice if we could videotape an "argument" like that for instructional purposes. -

Re: .....
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 12:55 PM1] Yes.
2] The original Voltron had nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with lions. Lions? Is it some Japanese symbolizing I'm not grokking? Lions = legos?
3] Maybe. No. Maybe. Which "True"?
4] Have you ever seen Mark Ryden's stuff? Is it the shit or what?
5] I like the word "subliminal" and its rare cousin "liminal". Using them correctly actually invokes their meaning in the act of using them. It's like onomatopoeia but more intricate.
6] Palindromes are also cool.
7] St. Simon sees no mists! Deliver no evil, live on reviled! "God! Nate bit a Tibetan dog!" Was it a bat I saw? Was it a cat I saw? So many dynamos.

Re: .....
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 1:09 PMIt's just this thing going on in my head, constantly. I write short stories and scripts while I tribe, for instance, and have a 3d modeling tool open, at the moment, as well; sometimes I have to grab this flute and work something out, but I'll hold it at my mouth and get angry at something someone posted and then start planning tomorrow's food situation out. STILL have to call about this ticket but it's like: I find it really easy to procrastinate on something odious if there's a sufficient amount of other stuff I can pretend is important for a minute. Phone calls can throw me for a loop because people can hear you type. They hate that.
You would not believe the number of tabs I have open on each window in each of my 2-4 browsers running at any given second. I used to have a system on which I could run several OSs at once as well - I'll get back there soon, actually.
Oops! DVDs finished burning! -

Re: .....
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 1:36 PMI don't have piles anymore but it's because I got married a little over seven years ago. That stuff makes its impact on you, you know? I'm a lot "neater" than I used to be. It hasn't made me more organized, unfortunately, just sort of more..... sneaky, somehow..... hard to explain about that.

Re: Men's brains vs. Women's brains
Wed, February 13, 2008 - 7:31 PMWell, I wish I had taken the time to check out the video earlier. There's so much to say!
There seems to be some decent scientific literature about intellectual differences between male and female. Not that one is smarter than the other, but that we generally - emphasis on generally - have different strengths. I fit the stereotype when it comes to language skills. I suck at basic math, but I do well with higher-level algebra and geometry and things like that. Then again, I hate fashion and shopping, while I love sports and cars and motorcycles. I hate going to parties and getting dragged into the "women's circle" where
