Oh! What a night!

No...wait, that's the wrong era. But it's still fitting! The show is now yet another piece of Violet Wing History, and I for one am proud and happy to have been a part of it!
We all worked very hard to bring some fun and music into the lives of our fans, and that is just what we did! And now...well I planned on sleeping for a month, but somehow I don't think the folks at my day job would appreciate that much. So, it's back to the humdrum grind for a while. But don't fret (that was for all you guitarists out there...) The Violet Wing is not beat! (and that is for you drummers...) We will be back in our practice room working on more stuff very soon!

For those of you who came out to support us: Thank You Very Much! You are the reason we did what we did!
For those of you who helped put the show on the stage: Thank You Very Very Much! We really couldn't have done it without you! The decorations were fantastic! The lights, sound, and refreshments were great too!
Our special guest performers were Groovy, and the GoGo Dancers kept everyone up and on their feet with their high energy performances…
There are far too many people to list here, so to all of you, please accept my gratitude for a Job Well Done!

Choices Made

Well choices have been made man,
buy alot of hippies from everywhere.
But here is what is going on as of now,
Not like time is relevant or anything. Hey pass that here!

So man the flags have been at half mast now for
over a month. And like we all miss Norm and as
he stuggles with the loss of his mother. Like
Peace be with her you know. But sadly still this
dark greif that he is struggling with has made
him come to the conclusion that he is going to
leave the band to persue more time with family.
That is so cool, very free love kind of thinking
you know. But now the band was faced with the
decision to either move on or let this be
" The Day the Music Died ". Strange man, I
never understood how a chevy at a levy had
anything to do with that man. Sort of the acid
trip spin on were he was or somthing. Anyway
back to the topic. The group has made a decision
to press on so the music can live on for us all.
They rock! They have tried a few drummers and
think they may have the guy their lookin for.
Some damn young cat man. He's like a retired
roady of the bands so like he knows them and
shit. That's real cool how they keep it in the
family. So they like still need singers though
man. I hope they find some soon. Maybe all the
other hippies out there can get re-energized and
like help the band find some people with pipes.
Wohooo pipes, Hey pass that over here man. So
this new guy says he will never fill Norms shoes
because he is a youngster and was not part of
the original wing but he is motivated to keep
the dream alive and if Norm ever changes his
mind he will nobley step down to put things back
the way they were.

So I remember the first report on the band man
and everthing going on made me want to remind
you all too that here we are and that is where
we will be.

Two gigs this week -- come to one!

Hey, all:

Well, after an enitre MONTH where I didn't play anywhere, it suddenly occurred to me that gigs don't book themselves. So I have two engagements this week at two different places:

Wedneday, Dec. 6: Stop by the big red clubhouse at Encanto Park, on 15th Avenue just south of the golf course parking lot! I'll be one of three acts playing sometime between 7 and 9. The usual jam session takes place first at 7, as I recall, and then the acts start at 7:30. (I think I'm on at 8. But show up early just in case!) It's FREE!

Then, on Saturday the ninth, I'm playing at a new venue for me and a newer venue for the Valley's folk coffee house scene, the Music Corner. It's located in a rec room at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, on the corner of 15th Avenue and Maryland. If this sounds a bit like Fiddler's Dream, it should. Since Fidd's rents space from the Quakers, the Music Corner does the same thing from the Lutherans. (However, there is no direct connection to the church. Anyone who's heard my act will know that!) Music starts at 7:30 with Jim Pipkin, who can write circles around you, me, and your dog without looking. He's really good. I'm on after Jim.

And just like the Wednesday night gig, admission to the Music Corner is a big fat NUTHIN' unless you wish to make a donation to keep the place going!

Also, if you're looking for the perfect cheap-ass gift for somebody for the holidays, I will of course have plenty of my CDs available for sale. I'll even be singing the one Christmas song I know, the one on my latest CD! It's my version of "Christmas in Arizona," written by my good pal Bill Blankenship and funny as heck.

So come see me this week. It's been a while, love to see you, bring the wife, kids, strangers with money, whoever!

I've been Challenged!!

I have been challenged to committing to bringing *10* friends to a fund raising rock show at Western Trails Ranch on Saturday, 12/9.

The local rock band **Phat Bastard** will be performing on both Friday, 12/8 and Saturday, 12/9, but Saturday's performance is a fund raising event for Packages from Home. In case you aren't aware, Packages from Home is an organization that sends "CARE" packages to our service men and women who are serving abroad (yes, the bulk of whom are now located in the Middle East).

Saturday's show includes special guest singer Sam Fasano *AND* the incredible guitarist Bruce Bray. Showtime starts at 7:00pm. It's an outdoor event so dress warmly and bring a blanket (and somebody) to snuggle with!

Soooooo... to help with this fundraiser, I've been challenged to get 10 of my friends to commit to going.

Who's with me? Who's up for some kick-ass rock and roll music??

Tom Chapin at Fiddler's Dream Sept. 30!

Tom Chapin, long-time folk singer, entertainer and former TV show host will be making his third annual appearance at Fiddler's Dream, 17th Street and Glendale in Phoenix, on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m.

Boomers will remember chapin as the host of the cleverly-written educational program "Make a wish" in the early 70s on ABC. But Tom's a lot more than that. A talented songwriter and musician, his songs cover virtually every topic with intelligence, warmth and humor.

Tom's concerts also include a song or two from his late brother, Harry Chapin. This is a great show. Don't miss it! Tickets are $20 in advance ($22 at the door) and are available at Fiddler's Dream Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays during regular hours.

If you are attending the Natium show at Big Daddy's this weekend, and you'd like to buy tickets for Tom Chapin, let me know and I will bring some along to sell to you.

It's going to be a great show. Due to the expected crowd, the concert will be held in the Quaker Meeting House rather than the usual smaller Fiddler's Dream building. Same address though -- 17th St. and Glendale.

I want to thank everyone that helped and everyone who came. My thanks to my band mates for sticking with me and putting up with eccentric ways, I love you guys. My thanks to Claude for filling in so well for "Little" Larry Tomininni, who could not be with us due to a gig in another realm. Shawna, you were amazing and everybody loved you. Dynamite job, girl! Tom rocked as usual...love your stuff man. Thanks to my sisters, Kathy and Cindy and Jims wife Pat for singing and running the door. Lara for handling the drinks. Thank you Sonia, Kara, Jenn and Stephanie for being the hottie go go girls that there are. You guys added so much to the show. To L. J. for running the sound. Good job man! Thanks to Gary and Steven for running the lights. You guys made everything look better and more dramatic. My nephew Matt and his friend for being stage hands and helping me clean up afterwards. Special thanks go to Colleen, Sonia and Lara for standing by me and encouraging me. There were others who helped with putting up the chairs and other things that I did not see. You know who you are and I am very grateful for your help. I arrived at the club around 9am and left at 6pm or so for 40 minutes to get ready to go on. I didn't leave the club until 3am when we finished cleaning and packing up. We had about half of the people show up to see the review that we needed so we are looking long and hard as to whether we will do it again. I think it’s important that everyone gets paid for their work and their art and they deserve it. All in all we had a great time sharing our energy with you and loved giving you a taste of what the 60’s was to us.

"Holy time lapse, Batman!" It's almost here and I feel just like a kid on the night before Christmas. The authentic 60's "Liquid Light Show" has been purchased and is a definite reality. I am buying the stage lights (colored can lights, spot light, STROBE LIGHT, fog machine etc.) on my way home today. Man! This one is going to be a real gas. The Go Go Girls have been practicing the dances and they are; Sonia, Kara, Jenn and Stephany. Prizes are being bought (in Las Vegas by Lara as we speak) for the contests. Shawna will be making her singing debute....man is she awesome!!! Reminds me of Brenda Lee...little girl huge voice (Bobby McGee, White Rabbit and more. The very talented Tom Tuerff will be opening again and Claude Nine is back!

So hey guys!!!! WHO'S GOING?????????? (we need 160 people to break even) If you like this sort of thing then please support it so we can continue.

Tom Tuerff opens with folk songs by Bob Dylan, Donovan, The Beatles and some of his own material building the mood for the night. The first set by the Wing is dedicated to Rock and Roll with music by The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Kinks, The Troggs, Janis Joplin and The Who while the second set favors the more psychedelic music of The Doors, The Yardbyrds, Cream and The Jefferson Airplane. The Wing also plays some of the first garage punk music by The Music Machine. And as a tribute to the late Arthur Lee they will do My Little Red Book by Love. The best advertising is word of mouth. So if you had a good time at the last show please tell your friends because the next show is going to be even better. Of course we will have the Violet Wing Go Go Dancers and the hilarious and super talented Tom Tuerff doing Dylan, Donovan and Dirvana. On top of that there is going to be a full blown liquid light show with strobe and mood lighting (more black light and posters). There will be door prizes for the best 60’s attire and the best hair. Also a hula hoop contest between sets. We have added the ever popular “girl songs” like White Rabbit, Bobby McGee and many more sung by the newly discovered hottie Shawna McGuire. So let them know that this is the coolest show in town, man. Let’s pack the place!

(FYI: Wolfgang's Vault is a clearinghouse for the sale of the MASSIVE personal collection of the late rock promoter Bill Graham, who apparently was quite the pack rat. He had a building in San Francisco where he carefully (and not so carefully, I guess) stored everything he could get his hands on. A couple years ago, after the building changed hands several times without anybody wondering if there was anything in it, and investor bothered to LOOK. He bought the building for $5 million, knowing full well that there was at least $50 million in merchandise in it!

PLUS: Graham was apparently obsessed with recording every show he promoted, if possible. So the building contained literally YEARS of tapes of unreleased recordings from shows. The free "Vault Radio" provides a new smattering of recordings every week or so.

CHECK THIS OUT. Total mind blower.

Liquid Light Show

I am looking for some to research and run the liquid light show for the concert on Sept. 9th. I will buy the overhead projector and clock faces etc. just like they used in all those shows in the 60's. You must be artistic and able to think psychedelic and have rhythm with good hand/eye coordination...... Any takers?

Wanna Do It Again?

I'm thinking of maybe doing it again but this time opening it up to the general public and charging admission so everyone can get paid for their talent. I'm going to by a 60's light show and a P.A. system so we can be self contained and of course if we're going to charge, the show has to be tighter and smoother running. The guys are up for it including Claude Nine.

Beatles Cover Bands

I can't remember the name of the group but there was a terrific band that played at a club in Scottsdale as a house band, that did mostly Beatle covers in the 70s. Anyone remember that group? Club was on McDowell.

The Long Ride Home

My memory is off a little bit. I thought it was summer when the Burlap Bubble first opened, but it looks like school was still in session in March of 1968. My friend Joanne and I had convinced my parents when they dropped us off at the Burlap Bubble that we would get a ride home and they would not have to come back from Scottsdale to get us. At the time, we really had no idea how that would come about. But at the tender age of 15, we were there to see the Sound Mill and the Violet Wing perform. We always tried to follow and support our favorite bands back then. My ex-boyfriend was in the Sound Mill and I spent quite a bit of the evening hoping he would not see me. That failed. I was only a little bit embarrassed. As the evening came to an end, we were still without that ride, when the guys in the Violet Wing came to our rescue. I believe it was Norm that had the car, and we all piled into his vehicle. I don't remember who all was in the car that night, but definitely there was Larry Tomanini, Norm, and that handsome fellow, Dave Frankus. I remember things were a little cozy in the back seat with at least 4 of us. Dave, was that you? Never saw you again, until I stumbled on you here. Where were you sitting that night? In the front seat -- or in the back with us two girls (jailbait) and Larry?
Not a flashback -- just a tiny glimmer of a memory, but a fun one at that.
