Words to Inspire!
I notice that I am constantly sponging up inspirational sound bites from everything I read and hear in my daily life, as I am sure many artists do. I am always pleasantly surprised when I am reminded of the inspiration I derived from the tokens I pick up by keeping my absorptive listening skills active at just the right moments to give me fuel for my artistic projects.
What are some thought-provoking/inspirational quotes you have run across or personal thoughts/taglines you utilize to keep you on a positive track of creativity? Here's something that got me going this morning.....
"The whole body, enlivened as it is by muscular memory, becomes a sensitive instrument responding with a wisdom far outrunning that of a man's reasoning or conscious control." Mabel E. Todd

"I'd like to think it was something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it."

There's the scene in Shawshank Redemption where Red [Morgan Freeman] narrates as Andy plays Mozart in the loudspeaker:
"I have no idea to this day what those two italian ladies were singing about. Truth is I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think it was something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and it makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you those voices soared... For the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free."
I've always thought of that quote as the definition of pure creativity...

Undoubtedly!
But it's her place to tell me that, not yours. She might let special people cut in line :-)
Special People = in love with the same scene in the same movie, likely for similar reasons.
I had to buy a second DVD - I wore the first one out.

Tiffany is right. All this time I thought they were screaming for "wifi" -- not "wife." :D

Sun, November 16, 2008 - 9:48 AMI love this quote....also I think the imagery you wrote in your post is so descriptive of the creative person and our desire to be inspired....even if we have to choose (consciously or subconsciously) what parts of reality we funnel through our vision and how we interpret what is in front of our eyes.
Beautiful.....

Re: Inspirational Quotes
Wed, October 29, 2008 - 10:16 AMThese are two of my favorites:
"Cautious, careful people, always casting about to preserve their reputation and social standing, never can bring about a reform. Those who are really in earnest must be willing to be anything or nothing in the world's estimation, and publicly and privately, in season and out, avow their sympathy with despised and persecuted ideas and their advocates, and bear the consequences."

Awesome...this whole quote is soooo Beauty Conspiracy.....The idea of social standing and status quo can cast such a superficial feeling of security and purpose, when truly the movement in life and art comes from the precocious questioning of what stands around us to limit our true sense of freedom....then transforming those questions that brew within us into action.

Love and Community are the Answer
Wed, December 10, 2008 - 4:36 PMWe don’t accomplish anything in this world alone … and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something.

Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius.
