I've cut them back and thrown a tarp over for a week or two to try and get staggered harvest times.........to some success. The urge to go to seed from season and heat gets greater. They certainly are a wonderful food. The hummus recipe sounds really good, and the pesto really great! Now i don't have a patch nearby, and buy them dried from a health food store and boil them up with othe veggies and mushrooms into soup or broth.....Crude but effective. I eat them several times a week this way.

          Happy birthday!

chick peas = garbonzo beans, ground sesame seeds = tahini and nettles are a plant that stings you if you rub up against it so if they grew in texas you will have seen or felt them... you may use sweet basil as a subsitute in you humus...
